Valid description for each and any firmware update:

"May improve some things and may degrade some others. YMMV."

Thats not always the case. I havent had a single issue with any firmware upgrade that I have done on my W900 or my S6200 Blu ray player. Now back in the day when I had my 46inch V5100 2 upgrades wrecked the HDMI ports to the point to where they had to be replaced. But since then no issues with firmware updates. Now are they always needed? More often then not the answer is no because they dont make that much of a difference performance wise.

Your kind of experience is perfectly included in my description. Note the "may", and note the "YMMV" (your milage may vary).

Following the TV scene over several years, the emerging pattern is pretty simple: With almost any firmware upgrade of no-matter-which manufacturer, there are those users that cry "problems, problems, PROBLEMS!", and there are those users that ask back "what's the matter, over here there's no problem at all".

Explanation? Difficult. Probably cases of "the system is complex, behaviour of complex systems is difficult to predict under each-and-every imaginable circumstances, and we [the TV manufacturer] have neither time nor money nor mood to really fathom the system in its full complexity. We just program on one single showcase system, and if it works there, then we suppose it is okay."

Thank you both, steve1971 and YDR05. Figured it was probably normal, just couldn't figure out "what." Manufactures should probably point these things out to consumers in their Troubleshooting sections, just to let them know it's a normal occurrence (my 2 cents lol).

(On the side...I see the Army and Air Force Exchange Catalog online is selling the LG 55EC9300 55" 1080p curved OLED for just under three grand, no tax, free shipping...only a thou more than I paid for my KDL-55W900A. A couple other online merchants are even selling the LG for a few bucks less... I know I've expressed deep affection for my KDL-55W900A recently...but please excuse me, while I go have a good cry...)

I need some help with the ARC function on this television. I just bought a Samsung H550 2.1 sound bar that supports ARC functionality. What I have done is connected the HDMI out from the sound bar to the HDMI input 1 on the television which is marked as the ARC port. I have went into sound settings and changed the settings for speaker to audio system with audio out set as fixed. I have my PS4 hooked up to HDMI 3, but when I change to the PS4 I get no sound. Is there something I am missing?

Is there a way to have the TV output color in PC mode? If there is a PC color mode how do you get to it in the menu?

I must be confused how ARC works then. I thought that if I hooked the sound bar to the ARC hdmi on the TV then whatever I plugged into hdmi 2, 3 , and 4 would all work "behind the scenes" with HDMI 1 to play sound through the sound bar.

Anyone knows if updating the firmware on this TV can help improving 3D?, Can it reduce cross-talk?

firmware update 4.491

Regarding the new 4.491 update; Does it change the Motionflow? I have the impression it has changed the "Standard"setting. HD, and SD material have way more judder and less anti-aliasing.(jagged edges).
I have updated several times before but never experienced a decrease of PQ.
My question is; has anybody else experienced this too or is it my imagination?

I havent experienced it with my W9. The only improvements that were made with the new update was for the tv's built in apps. At least thats what was told to me anyway.

Just switched my WiFi router to 5GHz, and my TV won't see my WiFi any more.
I then found this in the manual.

"If you want to connect the TV with your wireless router (or access point) at 5GHz, use the USB Wireless LAN Adapter UWA-BR100."

What a bummer. Anyone buy that thing? I guess I can put the ps3 back on wireless, and LAN line the TV.

Edit: Well, ps3 wont use it either. Bummer. I don't think I can do both with my old airport wifi. Switched to stream steam to my tablet.

I'm having lip sync issues with this set and blurays, I have a Yamha AVR, does anyone have some great advice to follow to correct these issues? How do you pinpoint what the lag is? I tried this BBC sync video in the tvs built in youtube app but I'm not sure if thats correct, this is starting to make me nutty.

Try adjusting the sync control on your AVR. I had the same issue on my old Pioneer AVR and I adjusted the sync control (or whatever its called) and it fixed the issue. Its not your tv at fault but your AVR.

That's going to be tough due to they are becoming rarer then hens teeth since Sony stopped production. The rare ones that do become avalible for sale sell out very fast, new and used. You can try Amazon or go online and do a search to see if any are avalible but good luck with that one. The W900A is a very popular tv still today. I had 3 people ask me if I was interested in selling mine as well as 2 Pawn Shops who made very good offers and I turned them all down. Why? I love my W9 to much to part with it. Someone would have to make me on hell of an offer for me to part with it. But again check Amazon and online and you might find one. Good luck!

They have refurbished ones available at the online Sony store for $1499. Use EPP to knock off 10%.

Is there a way to have this TV produce sound from its speakers while my AVR is playing, it will automatically turn off the TV speakers when there is audio going through the AVR, which is great, but I just want to set the sync delay on my AVR so I can get the snyc right, and I heard the best way to do that is to have your TV speakers playing sound at the same time as your AVR is playing sound and then just adjusting the delay til you have no echo.

Hiya, maybe by buying HDMI splitter. So that you connect one cable from the splitter directly to A/V receiver IN and another HDMI cable to TV HDMI input. But I do not know if that would be worth to buy, just to do it once. For my case where I have Marantz SR6003 + HTPC (AMD HD6970 graphic card) I did not faced with this problem so I have my settings on default. best, D.

I have a Yamaha receiver as well, and had unfixable sound sync issues with blu ray playing from a PS3. Auto lip sync feature on the receiver was enabled but would not fix the issue. I swapped the PS3 for a Sony bluray player and the issue went away. Try using a different player would be my advice to you.

Horrible advice.

No the delay is through the entire system, PS4 games and my STB for cable, I've read that being able to activate 2 sources(tv speakers and AVR) at the same time then reducing the echo between the AVR and the TV is almost a fool proof method. I don't have a hdmi splitter handy, I wish there was just a simple way to do this with the tv itself.
