from everything i have read/seen so far, the cadmium based quantum dot technology used in the high end sony panels (HD and UHD in 2013 ) has not been equaled or surpassed for quality in color reproduction. there have however been significant improvement in the brightness levels and contrast, but since almost no video source material (bluray or OTA) uses it, its benefit is mostly on paper as a future potential.

unless you have some great urgency to immediately buy something, take your time to make an informed choice once you have done your background reading and comparisons. the hunt is always more fun then the kill with AV gadgets, and most of us then have to live for many years with the final choice you make (and with our kdl-w900a's we landed pretty sweetly)

Great reply Jorgens. +++1

Jorgens you are correct. It seems I only scratched the anti-glare coating. The scratch is visible mostly when it's off and I hardly notice it while the TV is on. The PQ still looks fantastic. I won't require any therapy to cope w/ the scratch. [emoji16] Hands down this is my favorite TV I've owned. Not going to upgrade until Sony make a 4K equivalent!

helvetica, if Sony havent made a 4K equivalent to the W9 yet they arent going to and besides I think thats what the XBR X900A was......a 4K W900A except the W9 still scored better then the X900A!!! That being said. My wife and I watched the movie "Lucy" last night and OMG this movie looked stunning on the W9. If you havent watched it yet on your W9 trust me you are going to want to buddy. The movie itself was ok, my wife liked it, but what pulled me in was the PQ and black levels. Stunning on the W9 is all I will say.

I have the 55 in W9 as well and love it. I'm a huge gamer and this TV is perfect. So outside of Sony, is there an equivalent 4k TV to this W9? I need the low input lag.

"If" and I use that term loosely there is an equivalent to the W9 in terms of a 4K tv it might have to be Samsung's 4K sets that use the same QD tech that Sony used in the W900 and X900A. Other then that I have no clue as I have zero interest in anything 4K Cahn2126.

Thank you will give this a shot shortly. In your settings is Contrast = Picture in the settings?

Also a few other settings were missing.

Just a heads up for my fellow W9 owners. There's a new software update. Just got mine this morning. What it does I dont know but for some reason at first glance my tv looks a hell of alot sharper, even my wife said the same. Maybe its just my eyes playing tricks on me! LOL

That's strange Didee because it didnt change any of my settings. They all stayed the same after the update. The only thing that seemed to change was it appears that the image seems more sharper then before and better if thats at all possible. But otherwise all my settings stayed the same.

Firmware update should not change your settings unless there was an issue with the update process or a corrupted download. I have never had a firmware update reset my personal settings.

So yesterday I went through my setup menu on my W900 to see if indeed the new Update had changed anything and all my setting's were the same. The only thing I had to reset was the clock and date and time. To my eye what seems to have changed is the image quality, and it seems to have gotton better if thats possible as I mentioned before. Images seem sharper and more defined and the colors have seemed to have gotton more richer and natural looking. And again I looked over my settings and nothing was changed. I dont know if any of my fellow W9 owners notice any difference in PQ but I sure do and whatever Sony did in this recent update I like it. Even my wife noticed the change and for a woman who doesnt pay attention to things about my tv like I do it says alot.

A few people have asked what the Sony equivalant in their tv's is to our W900A's and I got my answer this morning from Sony. The sets are the XBR Model's 900A, 900B BUT none of them uses the QD technology like the W900A or none have the Deep Black panel like the the W900A. All incorperate the 4K technology and they all use Sony's own in house version of Triluminous but again NONE of their new models use QD or have the deep black panels. But there it is folks. If you want a updated version of our W9's with out the QD tech or the Deep Black panel then the 4K tv's I listed is your answer and that comes directly from Sony. Me? I have no interest because without those two features which made the W9 as great as it is then none of those tv's interest me in the least and I said that very thing to Sony. I dont care if their touting their tv's as the thinest or have the newest greatest features its PQ and black levels that count to me and my W9 still has those two important factors to in spades and thats all I need. HDR? Dont need it. 4K? Dont need it or want it. So it looks as though I wont be upgrading to any new tv's until my W9 kicks the bucket and can longer be fixed. Basically I'm going to ride it till it dies!!!!
