You can see a little bit of banding during startup. Not a big deal when playing, the graphics look great tho.
I'm hoping it can be added through firmware.

Do you think they will add the support for deep colour? What games do you have? I think the ps4 looks pretty damn amazing on this set...

I think they will. As long as we keep complaining to them.

Vermeer do you get those dark edges in bright scenes or white background?

I hope they add it. After all they created x.v. Color and my new Sony receiver supports it all. On the PS3 the W9 displays 12 bit when you hit display on the remote. I have BF4, Killzone and NFS. They all look great regardless but i always thought deep color adds a little extra richness to the PQ.

Edit:
If true this is pretty impressive. The Xbox one can somehow calibrate your TV.
It also looks like the Xbox One has more video options with a color bit depth section.

its hard to beleive that it can calibrate your TV, if this true, XBOX ONE reviewers would have talked about it all over the place, because the technicalities of this would make it a huge acheivement.

I actually calibrated the tv...it looks even better...there was slight movement in that picture from my arm, tomorrow I will upload some better pictures, this set is a beast...black levels can look amazing by adjusting the gama level slightly. I am impressed with the set..the screen uniformity is way better than I thought it would be...

Vermeer, thank you for sharing those photos. I think even now with the colors "washed out" by your Camera, its not really bad as some have discribed it to be on this thread.

My PS4 will arrive in a couple of weeks, can't wait

@dan007 I'm guessing you have smart dimming disabled on HDMI 4. If I turn it off on mine, I don't have clouding, but off-angle viewing does suffer greatly in dark scenes. So I always keep it on. Besides, it introduces little to no blooming.

Yeah that's my guess as well due to most of the inputs will have their own individual settings so check your settings for HDMI-4

That's interesting. I just experimented with the LED Dynamic Control (aka Local Dimming) in the Advance Settings menu and the off-angle PQ is definitely better in Standard setting compared to Off. Most videophiles and reviewers normally recommend turning off all the special video enhancements but, I think in Sony's case, they seem to provide worthwhile improvements.

@turnbowm yeah, it's interesting. Sony seems to have nailed dimming on this set. Thank god it works well in game mode without introducing horrible input lag.

@dan007 have you looked at the LED dynamic control in advanced picture settings while HDMI4 is in use?

What is the difference in game "standard" and game "original"?

I find that 1080p graphics with "details" on and "edges" have sort of a flickering/shimmering effect when turned on..... I notice this on my xbr909 and I noticed this on my friends new samsung 9000 what is this exactly? the game still looks good with the settings off.....

What is this flickering? I can reduce it with lowering the detail settings, it happens mostly with the leaves of the trees and very detailed ground textures... i have seen this on many tv's is it the game or the tv? because some games do not have this effect at all...

I live in Singapore and I just bought the KDL-46W954A.   Really fantastic TV so far.

Quick question though.  It isn't clear to me what the differences are between the 46W954A and the 46W904A (and why the former is slightly more expensive).  I was told that the 46W954A has better sound and that it has a better "Opti-contrast" panel.  I'm not sure whether that's accurate.  The 46W954A uses the box reflex speaker system whilst the 46W904A uses the long duct speaker system.   Some online reviews suggest that the long duct has better overall sound quality as compared to the box reflex.

I'm also not sure whether the 46W954A is the same TV as the 46W900A.  The different model numbering in different countries is confusing.

Also, is it possible to access content stored on my PC through my wireless home network on the W954A? I'm already connected to the wireless home network on the TV (I can surf the web and check out You Tube) but I can't seem to locate my PC via the TV.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hi there, all. I have a few questions on the analysis of this set vs. a few Samsungs.

First of all, let me say I've enjoyed reading (and reading, and reading) this thread!

I'm hopefully a soon-to-be owner of the 55W900A. Several days ago I posted in another less travelled but very specific thread about the 900A compared to the Samsung UN55F7500 (about $500 less). I'm getting the impression there is no comparison. Did anyone else consider this set? I got into that whole area because I can get that Samsung in a 60-inch for about $100 less that the 900A. After reading for several days here and elsewhere, I think the 7500 Samsung would be a mistake.

I also got drawn in at both Best Buy and a local retailer to the Samsung UN55F8000 ($2500 in the 55 inch and $2800 in the 60 inch). That set is amazing looking in form. I have an unexplainable dislike of the stand. I'm a minimalist and to me in conflicts badly with the ultra thin frame and sleek back of the set itself. Anyway, in store the Samsung is quite a bit brighter, but the 900A looks more rich. Feels impossible to tell, though.

I guess my questions are: 1) Should I forget about the Samsung 7500 all together? 2) Assuming I can get past the aesthetic of the frame, is the F8000 worth the extra $500, or is the 900A not only cheaper but a better overall set?

Thanks so much. This has been a big project. Had to reset the furniture layout of the living room to accommodate a larger set. Our 46 inch Samsung is moving up to the bedroom, and the bedroom 40 inch is moving down to the hearth room, to help settle the nightly first floor disputes in who gets to watch what. Of course the furniture move triggered an awesome new cabinet purchase and I was quite pleased with myself when I successfully installed a new jack for the satellite and ethernet in the new location without any outside help! Dish guys are coming out Saturday to upgrade us from the 722 to the Hopper.

Appreciate any comments and sorry for the outdated user name (from when I joined in 2006!) Can't figure out how to change it!

One more thing: any thoughts on pricing as we approach black friday and beyond?

Thanks!

@new2hd I can't personally speak on the Samsungs you mentioned, but the W900 has been fantastic for me. I went from a 60" Vizio M Series and I don't miss the extra inches due to the pic quality of the Sony.
