It's been extremely quiet on here, so I figured I'd stop in to keep this thread from getting too buried.

So far I'm very happy with my new 84" LG. PQ is pretty darn amazing. I watched Peter Jackson's King Kong last night, and I was really wowed with just how good it all looked.

If my TV gets upgraded to HDMI 2.0 and HEVC, I should be set for some time.

I wonder if there are any other 84LM9600-UB owners here, or am I the only one? Sure would be nice to compare notes with another owner.

You have several things working against this topic being active:

1) Topics for previous year's models always fade in activity. The 2014 version of this set is already starting to be out there.

2) The most successful topics are for the ones that encompass all of the same model line across screen sizes instead of just one size.

3) Until the price for this set fell through the floor in the last couple of months, the price would have made it a very small group of owners and by the time the price was dropping you could get the new model for not too much more.

Glad you are enjoying your set. I hope LG follows through on its commitment to provide an upgrade path to HDMI 2.0, etc.

I am still here and enjoying my 84" 4K every day. I just returned from Latvia where we stayed one month. We watched mostly a 32" TV so it is nice to see everything on an 84" screen again.

I had the 84LM9600 for a short bit when it came out.

I had extreme banding issues and LG agreed to take the set back. They told me at the time that they were not optimistic about being able to upgrade the set to HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2. They were aware that someone at corporate had said this, but that there was no one working on it, and that it would essentially amount to an entirely new set. If it did come, they estimated the cost at almost $4,000.

I took the return and am currently trying to decide on a replacement. [BTW: LG support is the best in the industry - I would stay away from Sony, just due to the poor quality of their support.]

@PeterS
Which models are you looking at? I'm planning on getting something as well in the 80" range but not buying until Oct.
Hopefully the hdmi issues will be worked out by then.

At the customer service representative level there is so much misinformation I would not trust a single thing they say about the upgrade, especially what they told you (no one is working on it, $4000). It's unfortunate that these guys feel free to just make things up. Customer service reps usually have ZERO information on what engineering is doing until the product is ready for launch at least that was my experience when I worked in consumer electronics for a foreign based company similar to LG. At least some other manufacturers have managed to upgrade the 2013 models for a reasonable amount, and there is enough leakage of information from higher levels within LG that this is going to happen in the next month or two. I may eat crow, but I'm fairly confident the LA9650, LA9700 and LM9600 will get upgraded.

Just got off the phone with LG customer care to see if there is an update to the upgrade kit. I was told that it is still on track for delivery at the end of this month. No pricing yet as this is dependent on where you live (perhaps she meant which country). If you registered your TV online then they will contact you by e-mail, otherwise to check back at the end of the month

I'm curious, how often do you all clean the screen on your 84" TV's? I've had my replacement TV for over 5 months now, and I've yet to clean the screen, as I've been kind of afraid to.

Also how do you clean it, and what do you use?

I use a product I bought from amazon called screen cleaner http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I cleaned it when the TV was installed (January 2014) and to be honest I haven't done it since. The product did a good job as there were palm prints on the set trying to lift it into position

Thanks for your reply. Since the TV installers were super careful, there are fortunately no hand or fingerprints anywhere. So about the only thing there is, is a very fine veneer of dust. When watching programming I don't even see it, and the only way I know it's there is when looking at the TV at an angle when it's off.

I wonder if I should even mess with cleaning the screen yet?

Called today fix ready to be scheduled 8/11

I called LG today to learn more about the upgrade. The tech support guy I spoke with had to ask around a little, but he found out that the HDMI 2.0 hardware release is scheduled for 8/11. He asked that I call back on Monday (unless they call me first) to schedule the fix. I didn't ask about pricing. Not sure if this is a "too good to be true" scenario, but I wanted to pass along this info as this thread helped me get to a (pseudo) answer. Maybe we'll soon be able to watch a little more 4k on our 4k TVs...

Update on the upgrade kit, LG have some in but they are not releasing them yet. They are collecting a list of names (I'm the 3rd so far) to contact when they do release them so as to set up installation times. They should be released by the end of the month and kit plus installation will be about $500.

LOL at the cluelessness of Tier 1 customer support. Companies should really be embarrassed by the kind of stuff that comes out of some of these people's mouths. When the average consumer knows more than the company employees they are calling, you know you have a problem.

Are there any owners of this set that enjoy 3D and would care to comment on this set's (prior or current year's version) performance in that regard? Particularly ghosting / flickering.
Looking to replace my dying Mits 75" LaserVue, which, color gamut issues notwithstanding, has had phenomenal 3D. Sadly, there doesn't seem to be a lot of good television options these days for someone that wants *both* >65" and good quality 3D performance. Alternate set recommendations welcome (note this is not for my dedicated HT but living room so not really considering front projector for this environment).
Thanks.

If you have read my previous comments on this thread you know this set is for you. I have owned Mitsubishi DLPs of 65",73",82" and my current 92" in bedroom. I bought the DLPs because of their size and 3D excellence (no ghosting). Believe me 4K is the answer to excellent 3D. My LG is much brighter and clearer than the Mits and the passive glasses require no charging, very little reduction in brightness and are light. This set has slight problems with banding which I don't notice normally and in 3D never. There is no ghosting or flickering.

I should have read more of the thread before positing my question; flicker should be non existant per passive. As far as the other attributes that's great to hear coming from someone else familiar the look of DLP 3D. My LaserVue's saving grace while it lasted was its 3D performance. Now that it's dead I need something to watch my >100 3D BluRays and self-made 3D content on until my dedicated Home Theater is done (est. 2015). Still giving consideration to a 75" Sammy buuuut... this is bigger and 4K (1080p per-eye) passive 3D I'm guessing the Sammy has better black levels and contrast though but size and the passive 3D are probably going to win.

Yeah, I noticed it is around $6500 now. Nice price and hoping to see it closer to $5k by Christmas. Then it's time to finally pull the trigger!

I just hope more 4K content comes out soon!
