This question has probably been asked before but I wanted to get some recent thoughts from people. I am now trying to choose between the 46hx750 and the 46es7100. I keep on hearing that the hx750 has mixed reviews with the pq but am not sure if the es7100 is better or not. Any thoughts?

Thank you in advance.

you won't go wrong with either one. go for 46HX750 for an additional HDMI input. you may not need now but maybe later.

Ahh the joys of AVS. I would completely disagree with the HX750 over the ES7100. The HX750 is mediocre in my opinion and if I'm picking between the two the ES7100 is the no brainer. The HX750 is light in most performance categories, though Sony derserves their dues in certain categories. There video processing is always pretty rock solid so the motion resolution handling will be solid for an LCD, and their color accuracy is always pretty on point.

That being said, the ES7100 is every bit as solid in those categories but wins in the black level department and the aesthetic's department, in my opion.

ES7100. If you can swing the HX850 instead of the 750, then that would be my choice.

I wish I could swing the hx850 but I cannot unfortunately. My budget is under $1500- for a 46 incher or a 55 incher. Does it make sense to wait for the new models?

I'd say no. For your budget, I don't forsee any leaps and bounds forward.

The advantage the the 46es7100 over the 46hx750 is purely the smart tv interface, in terms of pq Sony still beats the 7100's pq hands down. I have looked at these two sets over and over again. That smart tv interface although looks cool I find myself only really using just hulu and netflix, the tv web browsers I hate all of them I rather use my iPad.

By the way the 55hx750 should still be on sale available for $1500, I saw the 55hx750 and the 46es7100 relatively close to each other side by side it def had a better contrast ratio. Looking at the Samsung at an angle the picture quality diminishes a lot more than the Sony at an angle.

I was debating between the es7100 or the hx750 for my living room too after purchasing the lm7600 for my basement. I winded up returning my es7100 cause I just didn't like it and exchanged it for the hx750.

Currently Using:
SONY 55HX750
LG 55LM7600
B&W Panorama 1

So you measured contrast ratio in a retail environment? Hmm. I bet that assessment was spot on. The off axis viewing for both is nearly identical, I'd hesitate to crown one better than the other. Both average, which of course is an inherent LCD issue. And if you picked up the LM7600 for your basement why didn't you just get a second one of those for the living room, as the LM7600 is absolutely better than either one of the models in question here.

The Samsung smart interface is cluttered and has consistent reliability issues. Though Sony's does feel archaic.

So, as an update, last night I found the 46es8000 on Amazon for under $1300- and decided to order it. Since it is the top of the line Samsung model, I assumed that it would have better pq than the es7100 and the hx750. Hope it was the right assumption!!

Good choice. I went around 3 mos. without a Flatpanel in the living room. My 10 yr. old plasma quit working and my choices were a Sony 950, Samsung ES8000 and Panasonic VT50. It came down to the Sony/Samsung I chose the Sony but the Samsung was a close second. The Samsung has excellent PQ. check the updates via Internet and the Samsung ES8000 thread for setting info.
