What are y'all doing for remotes. I can't stand going to "more" for commonly used keys.

I'm either going to wait for the 2014 evolution kit that has a few more buttons and features, or also looking at the harmony touch.

I think a universal remote like harmony or anything like that would be better. smile.gif

I finally set up my Harmony One for my F8000 and Yamaha RX-V673and Activities (Watch TV, Watch DVD, etc...)

May need some tweaking still.  When I turned on Activity Watch TV (cable box, TV and AVR on) Turns on all the appropriate devices, beautiful.  I was surprised to find volume up/down did not change the volume on the AVR and channel up/down did not change the channel on the STB.  Also the guide button used to open my TWC TV guide, no longer.  Worked before even though the Harmony was setup for my old Panasonic plasma and old AVR.  Was pleased to find the menu button opens the F800 menu and the SmartHub button works fine.  Went to Smart Hub, opened apps and watched a movie via Plex on my NAS.  Volume worked fine to control my AVR.  Then I go back to Watch TV activity.  Volume, channel, guide all worked now.  Then, I forget, went to another activity, then back to watch TV and again volume, channel and other STB features again not working.  Strange.

You are saying pressing Source on the remote will not bring up the Source menu ?

I have no idea.  Maybe try unplugging it ???

So, after you turn on the tv, on the samsung remote, you can't go to source by clicking on the source button?

Do you have a universal remote? Can you try to change source there?

Can you unplug your tv?

What do you guys think, will the Full HD TV's still be good for another 5 years or so? Can't stop asking myself if maybe it would be more sensible to wait a little bit more and buy a 4K TV? But the problem is that the prices are outstandingly high.

I know you're tired of my annoying questions already, but please just help me with this one, before I order the F8000 tomorrow. Will the F8000 still be good in let's say 5 years from now..?

I was in the same boat as you, debating between 4k or not. But, to be honest, I think 4k OLED will be the product to wait for and that is at least another 3-5 years away from being close to affordable and stable. Since there are still several channels and lots of content that are not HD today, I do not see any amount of mass 4k content being available for another 3-5 years anyways. They have not even agreed on a standard for the disc format yet, so that will take a couple years as well. So, since we are looking at several years for 4k content to be readily available and OLED to be affordable, I decided to get the F8000 now and then upgrade to a 4k OLED (hopefully) in another 5 years or so.

Plus, I am not too sure how 1080p and below look when they are upscaled on a 4k. I am sure there is info out there, but I have not researched it much. But, that was another concern of mine. How does non-4k content look on a 4k display, considering for the first couple years 90% or more of what you watch will be non-4k content.

Yes.

Unless you're going to buy a 120" 4K or sit within like 12" of it a 1080P set is going to be fine. Heck it's not like there is much 1080P content apart from BluRay discs let alone 4K today. Personally I hope 4K gets more or less skipped and they go straight to 8K. The whole glasses free 3D sounds interesting.

I think that you told me everything. Guess there really is no point of 4K for now, because in our country there's still alots of non HD channels, in fact only about 30 channels are in HD, but they are not included in our providers package... So I guess that F8000 really should be more than enough for me, right now, and also in 5 years...

Thank you very much for this!

I was in the same boat.

My 2 cents.

4K is not worth it at this time. Shoot, CBS, NBC, PBS is only at 1080i not even 1080p and ABC is still at 720p and all other channels (most) are still at 480i.

So, it will be a long time for the stations to go to 4K. The costs will be high for them to change everything..

4K is another gimmick in my opinion to get us to pay for a "feature" that may or may not be available in the near future! smile.gif

Also, what about physical media? i.e. blu ray? for 4K, what is it? Red ray?? No standard as of yet.. 4K movies are not going to fit on blu ray discs.

For Sony 4K TV, you have to buy the Sony media server. Added costs for sure. How to get content there? streaming?

Speaking of streaming, the ISP have data caps. They will charge an arm and leg for you to get maximum bandwidth to handle 4K.

So, with all those questions about 4K, is it worth it?

Say, you get 4K tv now with no standard. What do you get for your hard spent dollars? What to see?

Best to get 1080p and enjoy..

Next year, Samsung is pushing curved screens. No, I don't want that! smile.gif

Another "feature" to pull in the users but will fail.

Time will tell on 4K/8K/16K, etc. smile.gif

True, it will look terrible but let's say you get it and you don't wall mount it.

Unless you are sitting right in the middle (the perfect spot) you will see what?

If you are left of the middle or right of the middle, the view will be terrible.

Everything in the curved display will be optimal for the middle person.. lol.

No, I will stick to flat screen. Granted, LED will have angle issues but it has to be better then curved screens for sure! smile.gif

I don't know for sure, but I heard curved is more side view friendly.  Still not for me.

In the 4K arena, I agree with all your comments.  I am however lucky in that my Time Warner ISP is not capped.  At least not yet.  They may be throttling me but I have not noticed.

See what the pending merger with Comcast brings.  Surely more and better services at lower cost (Yeah, RIGHT!)  Not happy about the pending merger.  Hope it gets nixed by the feds as becoming a monopoly.

Yeah, let's see how all this pans out. 4K/8K/16K?, curved screens?, ISP merging?..

For now, I say, if folks are thinking of getting the F8000. Go for it! smile.gif

I am keeping my F8000 for at least 5 to 10 more years or till it no longer works.. . smile.gif

And, I came from a Mitsubishi Rear Projection TV that lasted 14 years! smile.gif

I have just purchased a UN65F8000 and so far love it. I previously has an LN52A650 with the "touch of color" around the rim. One thing I was able to do with the 52" TV was to go into the "engineers menu" (probably the wrong name) and increase the 120hz to create more of a soap opera effect.

I know a lot of people don't like the way this looks; but I do. (Dont lynch me).

2 Questions:
1) Is it possible to do something similar with the 8000?
2) If so, how would I go about doing it?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Personally, I think that curved displays are going to be a passing fad. I think they just like showing off that they can bend the display. They have introduced a model that goes from curved to flat with the push of a button. While I think this is smart to give everyone what they want, I doubt they will continue developing that. Too many things to break.

As for content and data, Netflix has supposedly developed a new codec that allows compressed 4k content to stream without consuming a ton of data. Obviously there are tradeoffs there, but it would appear that they are trying to keep data in check.

Are you utilizing ARC? Sounds like this could be a ARC problem.

Thank you. I believe there is a way to go into the Service menu and exaggerate the soap opera effect. Any idea how to do that?

Turn Auto Motion Plus all the way up (I can't recall the name) and it'll look like a soap opera. Super Smooth or something like that?? :D

On this, have you tried the control button on the lower right hand side on the back of the TV (if you are looking at the TV from the front)?  My remote initially didn't work and that thing was the only way I could change anything or turn it on/off.

Is your TV not under warranty anymore? Have you tried calling Samsung?

I think it's a gimmick and definitely not for me either but the curve is not too extreme. From pics/videos the curve looks pretty subtle.
