I been having some problems with my f8000 and im having a tec come out to fix it. I been reading about samsung warrenty and it says it wont cover it if the unit has comestic damages. I scratched behind the tv by accident when I was trying to wall mount it. The scratch is by the upper right side of the set next to the screw. Do you think I can still be cover under warranty for any issue with my TV?

AH  I would not think a scratch in the back would void your warranty.

Hello!

I have a 46" F8000. I'm new in the service menu and I tried to enable the cal day and cal night settings.

Unfortunately I managed to change the type and the tuner fields without noticing it. (I noticed it after I changed it many times by navigating through the menu). :-(

The TV is still working, so I wasn't so unlucky yet, but the picture quality became noticeable worse. Would you be so kind to send me, what is the value of the type and the tuner fields on your TV?

Many thanks,

nagno

Thanks to all those who have posted comments. While this is a very large thread, there are great tidbits about this TV which made my setup much easier.

I have had a 55F8000 for about five days now. Upgraded from Samsung 50" DLP after the lamp continued to fail and I had had enough having the thing repaired. 9 years is a pretty good run.

All sources are connected to Marantz AVR via high speed HDMI and then high speed HDMi from AVR to the TV. Once the setup was complete, adjusted the settings from buzzard and DRN. Using Harmony Touch to control all the devices and the Samsung when I want to go to Smart Hub. ARC on in AVR and TV - so far no issues.

I must say this set has an amazing picture. So much better than the DLP. Even though screen is larger than previous set, it appears smaller because of the bezel. Really enjoy it.

Only two issues so far - have had random "blinking" when screen goes completely black and then restarts - which I understand is somewhat normal. I also have had 3 "pink" screens, but that is quickly reset by turning the AVR off and then on again. From what I have read, that is an HDMI issue and not specific to this TV.

Overall very impressed. Highly recommend.

Sorry to hear this. Is it that big of a distraction ? Could you just live with it for a year or so, get some use out of it ?

If by "pretty close" you mean at least 10 feet or more, you are correct....by my eyes, if I can accurately estimate 20 degrees.

The RF Bluetooth is a definite advantage over IR if you don't have line-of-sight to the set, but the evolution kit is an awfully expensive fix. Your issues should be correctable by future firmware updates. Hopefully that happens. smile.gif

I agree with Cleveland Plasma. I'd live with it. Yes, the chip looks very large in the two blown up photos, but in the third normal shot, it looks livable to me. I guess it also depends on how wealthy you are.

For those audiophiles among us, from the mind of Mr. Rust Never Sleeps, Neil Young, comes a music player capable of "studio master-quality digital music" called the PonoPlayer. Check it out - http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2014/03/10/neil-youngs-high-fidelity-music-player-to-sell-for-3-lands-on-kickstarter/?intcmp=features

The one thing I wish the F8000 had was more apps within the smart hub. I am thinking of getting a roku stick. Any thoughts? It doesn't need a power supply as long as I can connect one cord to a charging USB port so that is one nice feature and I can either plug it into the oppo or the TV. smile.gif

Of course this brings the question, does the F8000 have a powered usb port? How about the oppo? Both have hdmi ports but the powered usb port?

Flttester, I plan on getting the evolution kit anyway. It's one of the reasons I bought this TV over the 7100.

It's also going to give us I pointer feature like the LG remotes and/or Wii.

Hope it's sooner than later.

And for the above with the chip, I hit it with a sharpie or black nail polish and live with it as long as you can. That's a pricey fix.

My next tip would be insurance fraud and say it was stolen. But that's potential jail time. Lol

think the F8000 USB port is powered.

What's a roku stick (guess I could google it) ?  Like Chromecast ??

See link here.

It has one wire for hdmi connection and another connector option for power.. For power, you can plug it into a continuous powered usb port or you have to plug it into an outlet.

I checked the Roku website and since the oppo has MHL port, just plug it in that port and it will power the unit as well. So, all in one spot. Very simple.

Wonder if the F8000 has an MHL port?

Unebem backlighting is getting bad on my three weeks old set
it was almost perfect when was brand new but now flashlighting is probably one of the worst I've ever seen
anyone else has the same issue?

can wall mount which is not 100 percent horizontal contribute to this issue?

I've been pushing my F8000 at max backlight for 8 months and I've noticed slight clouding in the corners that have gotten vaguely more noticeable in a pitch black room on a native black level screen. But because of the Cinema Black feature and Smart LED and the subtlety of it, it's not noticeable during normal viewing at all.

If you are seeing the clouding during regular programming and movies then I would try an exchange. Can you take some pictures?

i believe i read that wallmounting can make flashlighting worse because of attaching mount can change pressure points on the screen thus making it worse. dont quote me, maybe experiment.

I've had many samsungs and they all had this issue. When I got this one this was the first thing I checked for and was quite impressed - it was almost perfect, by far the best among the ones I've had.I could probably see some very light flash-lighting from one of the corners. But then day after day it's getting worse and worse. Now I see it many places, not just corners, it's almost as bad as my ES8000 was. I wonder if everyone has this issue or only people who have it mounted.

I had to set up a replacement for my 65" f8000 the banding turned out to be horrible :-( anyone have this banding? I tryed calibration and settings that were offered to me no go!! the banding is sooooo noticeable when the movie bluray or TV 1080i or p content pans right to left left to right all I see are these lines running from the top to bottom totally distracting in ruins the movie!!!! I'm going to try one more, Samsung is being really cool about the whole thing sending me a new set first then (so I'm not without a TV for a week!!) Picking up the old set on the day of delivery. The panel was a TS01 that's the one we all want right? so I'm just a little more than worried about playing this panel lottery. I think the next one is going to be AWSOME.....I hope

I've been video gaming for so long (I'm 19, don't judge) my pupils are champs and can dilate and constrict like pros! But in seriousness, I crave peak whites as much as I crave deep blacks. Dolby's new HDR technology will reach up to 10,000 nits on screen! To put that type of brightness into perspective the F8000 can only max at about 450 nits! I'm not the only one looking for brighter peak whites wink.gif it just depends on whether your eyes are up to the exercise smile.gif

I had the chance to test an F8000 with the latest firmware. Came in at a whopping 42.3ms in game mode using the LB input lag tester. Myth put to rest.

If you just have a touch pad, like me, swiping only moves in ~10 sec increments. The best way to FF/RW, is to first press the pad to
bring up the icons on the bottom, select the search icon, then select "search time bar", this brings up a slider and now you can easily
FF/RW the time you want.

I think a sell would be at a VERY discounted price.  Well, I would not buy it.
I would think a repair would be fine, assuming they will replace the panel.  But then you enter the panel lottery again.
Personally, I think for the price diff, 1700 vs 2500, I would opt to buy a new one.
Boo to your renter's insurance!

Is the front panel glass ? What's that liquid stuff they use to fill in a minor cracked windshield ? Is there anything along that lines that can
be used to fix the chip ?

Actually use a sharpie. Then you can do a finer job, if it looks worse, wipe the marker off.

The actual panel is chipped, and with that part of the polarizer is gone. That spot will always be white now, because it is letting all light through.

That's cool of them to send first.

How do we find out which panel we have and what's the difference ?
