I would agree.  Why take a step back in Samsung models (probably be more displeased) ?

I know nothing of the Sharp model but kinda doubting it is as good as the F8000.

Yeah, the F8000 and W900A were the best LED's of 2013 by a fairly wide margin. There is no way the Sharp is even competitive against these two.

magstang1, I think another 65" owner had the same problem as you are having with the banding. He exchanged and I don't recall hearing back from him on here so I think his second set was very satisfactory to him. I'd exchange it while you can.

Could you take a picture of a black background rather than the grey app loading background? It'll give a better idea of the uniformity and whether any clouding or flashlighting is present. Also adjust the exposure/shutter speed of your camera if possible to let in just enough light to capture a realistic picture of what the TV actually looks like in person.

Have you seen the new 2014 Q+ Sharp sets?

I saw a 65" F8000 for the first time yesterday and it was ugly... It had visible pixel spacing or graininess related to the subpixel layout / design that kept distracting me and pulling me out of the viewing experience. Since Samsung used some sub par 3rd party panels instead of their own S-PVA panels for the set I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised. Why their flagship 1080p TV didn't warrant a S-PVA panel I have no idea, but If that's the best LED LCD TV of 2013, no thanks. The 70" Sharp Q+ set next to it looked quite nice when viewed from the same distance.

I don't mean to be rude, I am a new member here asking for advice and suggestions, but to my fairly untrained eye the rest of the picture qualities are quite good. I'm not sure that I want to post a high resolution photo here for you guys to pick apart. My OCD will never watch this TV the same again.

I knew the banding was there but I tried to ignore it and live with it. The baseball game set it off. I actually said out loud last night "Damn it. Here we go again." I knew once it got into my head I was stuck obsessing.

I would recommend an exchange while you still can. If you lose the panel lotto again, try something else. I have the 65" and it's absolutely the best picture I've seen, and the height I have it mounted is less than ideal! (The bottom of the screen is actually a little above eye level...)
And who knows, if samsung can't replace the F model because of availability, maybe you'll score a 2014 model! ;-)

Yeah, that's a deal breaker for me, but I'm sure some will enjoy it.
On the bright side, I've heard that the curve is much more subtle than this years 2013 OLED screens.

Check on the possibility of replacing it. If F8000 are still around, you should be able to get one. smile.gif

Paul's is out of 65F8000

Decision time...

Curved H8000 or a 65H7150?

I think I've decided against the Sharp SQ, and the UQ is a bit above my price range.

The H8000 is comparable to the F8000, aside from the curve, which is very subtle. The H8000 has more dimming zones and better processor. I like the F8000 but gonna wait for reviews on the H8000 before getting the F8000.

I agree, go with the compatible version. You can then see if the "curve" is really anything special or not. smile.gif

We will see what the guy from Paul's has to say. The manager is supposed to call either tonight or tomorrow. It doesn't seem like the manager has much ability to make any accommodations though. He had to call for "approval" about 5 times during the sale of my current TV.

Of course they aren't currently running any promotions and I was told that if I do choose another model I only get the current price. Considering that they are out of what I have, I don't anticipate a pleasant phone call coming. The manager was already trying to tell me they might not give me another TV due to uniformity issues.

I'll give them the chance to make it right before I draw any conclusions.

If you are in their return policy then you can just return it and get your money back if they can't replace it, right?

I totally agree....about the women and the TV. As far as needing a curved screen, it's a matter of screen width and viewing distance. In most home environments, the screen is not so wide compared to the viewing position that the screen needs to be curved to get an optimal picture. If your room is 15' wide and the screen is too, and you sit 12 feet from the screen, you might benefit from a curved screen. But of course I certainly wouldn't mind if mastang1 exchanged his F8000 for an H8000 and gave us all his opinion. smile.gif

Yeah, but when they claim it's not a defect they'll get him for the restocking fee.

I saw no evidence that the curved screen was any better than a regular screen...I had the chance to buy one when I was at Pauls buying my 65" F8000....I watched the curved screen and demoed it...Didnt take me or my wife long to say naah...no thank you.

The curve won't do much as far as immersion goes but it appears to be a hair better than the F8000, at least in local dimming and Smart Hub. I looked at the LG 4K OLED Curved TV a few days ago and really couldn't tell if it was curved or flat when viewing head on. From the sides I could see the curve but it wasn't distracting in the slightest.

Aside from "looking cool"...we thought the the F8000 was better in overall PQ.....to each their own I guess...Thats why were all individuals and there are choices for each of us to make. Thank goodness for that!! :)

I told the manager at the store I purchased from if they didn't plan to switch this one out that I would be returning it.

I also stopped at another Paul's store this evening and spent a little time in front of a 55H8000. The curve was neither a plus nor a minus while viewing from straight on. Initially I was opposed to it but I guess that's just because it's new and I'm not much of beta tester.

Ultimately I'm just the same as everyone else. I work for a living and am not independently wealthy. Cost is a factor, and the fact that I got a deal on my F8000 was a deciding factor. Paying full retail for a 7150 puts me dollar for dollar almost where I am with the 8000. I just get the next generation. If I want to stay with the 8000 series it's going to cost another $800 or so. Neither one of those options are terribly appealing to me. It would be nice if they knocked a few dollars off a new model since they can't replace what I have.

I don't know what the content is supposed to look like but it appears that your Brightness control setting is way too high. It has to be set with a Pluge pattern and should be about 45-46.
