will enabling CalDay and CalNight help?

to update the strobing issue, it will stop if brightness is set above 45, but you will lose the deep blacks on a blank screen. you cant test it easily enough by putting a black field pattern on the set, and move the brightness control. be sure the menu is not on screen after making changes.

there is a defect in the software on these sets where you will get different results while calibrating using fields or windows for the patterns, and if using fields, leaving the menu on screen. I cannot determine if using windows or fields is the correct way to go with this set when calibrating.

if you want to see an exaggerated example of this, change cinema black to high and measure the grayscale with the menu on screen and without, then look at the gamma charts.

Hey everyone, I'm having a difficult time trying to find Buzz's settings. Like previous posters, the links on the OP is not directing me to where I need to be. If someone could post a link to it I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

a guess, since the distortion never moves from its position, the panel may be failing. before anything try resetting the set, unplugging it for 5 minutes, then try to do the update again.
good luck.

you can try to download the file to a usb drive and install from that, if that fails, you will have to call Samsung tech support. sorry I can't be of more help.

Well it has been 5 months since the purchase of this TV and I can really say it has been an awesome set. It came with 2 remotes, that bluetooth touchpad one and a regular soft button remote. When I watch Netflix or anything to do with the TV I've been using the Bluetooth remote and once you get use to it, it is really nice to use. Especially the size and how it feels in your hand.

Anyway, I just got around to getting ARC to work with Netflix. Works good. I never watched the TV show LOST, so I've been using Netflix to watch them. The picture looks awesome and the TV is throw out 5.1 to my receiver which is great. First time I have ever watched Netflix in HD and DD5.1. Anyway when I go to control the volume my Denon overlay pops up and so does the Samsung Anynet+ volume overlay at the same time. I want to be able to disable the Samsung volume control overlay. Does anyone know if that is possible? With both overlays on the screen at the same time you really can't see the volume number, and I usually set the volume by the number. It is not an end all situation, but figured I would ask.

Other than that the TV has been wonderful. I do have a couple year old Sony that has full back light array with local dimming that has just a little nicer picture, but it really is hard to tell. And I don't find myself these days so critical anymore. If I get a nice looking picture, decent sound, I'm happy. I remember years ago spending hours, days, weeks, just fiddling with settings, basically wasting my time. Asking for other users settings so I can use them on my set, and then changing them again days later when all I had to was set the settings to the way I liked them and leave them and enjoy the show. Now I can watch a TV show without that little voice in my head talking about how that corner was a little lighter than the other and crap like that.

I remember I paid $1900 for this set and now at the same store I see it for $1579. Damn, that's a pretty decent price for this set. I may just buy another. I think all the 4K hype is bringing down the 1080P sets, which is good because 4K to me, is just another hype like 3D. It will be available, but it won't be mainstream in several years....at least in my opinion. Because right after 4K you the industry needs to make money, so something else will come out, like 10K. Hey, may as well make it 20K. My eyes couldn't tell the difference anyway. We're only human, right?

Can someone comment on the motion blur for this set on sports/games?

I recently got a 55" XBR-X900 and am seeing quite a bit of blur especially in FIFA 14 on PS3 -- tried game mode, standard more w/motion flow off, clear, etc.

Am debating whether the F8000 with a 240hz native panel will help?

I got the XBR on clearance and the F8000 will be $100 lower.

It may have been for a limited time. I got my complimentary regular IR soft button remote back in July late year. Doubt they are still offering it for free a year later. I'm pretty sure the remote is only $15 at most. And honestly, I haven't used it at all, I prefer using the Bluetooth remote.

I purchased my set in March of this year and it came with both remotes.I have no idea what Samung's logic is for why and who gets the second remote...

So when using the ARC, is there anyway to make your receiver not automatically change to the tv input? Both my receivers do this. Is that a standard feature of receivers receiving an ARC signal? Maybe this is a better question in the AVR forums...

you may want to call Samsung tech support, it looks like a failed panel. Does this happen just at start up, or all the time?

I am from Singapore and got this TV UA55F8000, i guess it's for the Asian version. We don't have any cable provider at home but I have learned that this TV has Integrated Digital Tuner which accept Digital broadcasting. I went to Harvey Norman and bought the Draco ANT-600 which is a USB powered antenna that connects to the USB in the TV and the Antenna cable to the TV's antenna. I then re-tuned the TV to accept the Digital Air broadcasting and Voila got overall 7 Channels in HD format. I can say that I have never been so amazed watching local TV channels as this...Picture is so alive and contrast is amazing...Blacks are black and Whites are white... No saturation or lack of colors...Just pure pleasure watching....

This TV is so cool too that even if I watched for several hours it doesn't get hot that hot....

Have a logitech bluetooth keyboard for my iPad 2 and I was able to connect it to the TV, very useful for browsing when typing in the search bar... got to try icloud web based document editing if it's working hahaha....

That's all for now, and i can say this is worth my every penny...

I've got the exact problem Opentoe has with my Samsung F8000 and Denon X3000 showing 2 different volume overlays on the screen. Is there a way to turn one of them off? I'm using ARC and the sound is fine, but the volume showing on the TV and Anynet+ is annoying because it's displaying different volume levels... (the TV and the RCVR) volume?

Also, I'm using this as my current calibration settings for everything such as streaming media (AppleTV, Hulu, Netflix, DVD, Blurays) is there a better one?

Pandora Sound Drops out using ARC - UN65F8000

I picked up an F8000 in November, and all is well except for an irritating symptom when using "smart app" functions... When using Pandora, PLEX, or select other applications, I will experience nominal sound and picture for a random period of time, and then the sound will become exceptionally distorted and extremely loud.  The sequence of events is as follows:

1)  Open Pandora
2)  Select a station
3)  Listen to tunes for $TIME
4)  Pandora starts a new song and the volume goes 5x and audio content becomes highly distorted

Again, this happens with Plex as well, so the issue is multi-app.  Additionally this can occur with the first song selected.  Fast forwarding to the next song fixes most of the time, but the problem will surface again at a random interval.

My setup is as follows:

TV:  UN55F8000 (software version 1119)
A/V Receiver:  Yamaha RX-V573
Connection:  S/PDIF out from TV to Yamaha (Optical direct)

One other note is that I had the TV and receiver connected via ARC for some time and the issue existed with that setup as well (as i would expect since it's the same output circuitry one would think).  I have other digital audio inputs connected to the Yamaha (SageTV HD300, Sony Blu-Ray player) and none have had these issues.

Has anyone reported similar issues, or am I the lucky first?  Just curious before/as I go to Samsung... My panel doesn't have any bad pixels or banding issues, so replacing it would irritate me (lottery).

Thanks again

/jer
@jhartm2 My friend has a similar issue in that after 'Listening to tunes for x $TIME' the Pandora (PCM) sound just stops. However, the screen indicates the song is still playing (progress bar).
He is using the HDMI - ARC (Audio Return Channel) to provide sound to his receiver (Denon AVR-E400). We are thinking about switching to S/PDIF output, instead of using ARC, to troubleshoot.

Vudu and Netflix (DD5.1) have no issue.
We recently duplicated the issue of sound dropping (while song progress bar continues) by using local media (.mp3 on USB thumb drive), which uses Stereo PCM similar to Pandora. This indicates a multi-app issue. It seems to be more susceptible to drop sound, when you are skipping songs, or changing channels on Pandora. Same with skipping through the .mp3 list.

I thought someone pointed out you could configure the TV, to output 'Stereo' sound using DTS instead of PCM, and that seemed to solve an issue related to Pandora sound.

Do you know where in the TV menu you have that option?
Did you ever find a solution to your problem?

His setup is:
TV:  UN65F8000 (software version 1120)
A/V Receiver:  Denon AVR-E400
Connection:  HDMI ARC from TV to Reciever

We are trying to zero in on if it is an issue with the TV or the Receiver - or a HDMI handshake issue.

Thanks,
Steve

@DRN94 , Thanks for the reply, related to the Pandora sound dropping out.

We have updated the TV to the latest update (1120)., We were able to recreate the sound dropping out while listening to local media (usb drive with .mp3). It seems to stop when you are skipping a song, or moving around in the play list. Typically, we can turn off the receiver (Denon AVR-E400) and then the tv continues with the sound to it's internal speakers. Once you turn the receiver on, the sound is returned to the receiver. I assume HDMI-CEC tells tv to start sending sound out the ARC again.

Once the sound drops (while listening to Pandora) out we can switch to Vudu or Netflix and there is no sound. The AVR-E400 doesn't switch modes to Dolby D 5.1 as normal.

It seems to be related to PCM Stereo and the TV just stops sending sound out.

Next troubleshooting we will:
change HDMI cable.
route sound from TV via TosLink (s/pdif)

From what I've read from other posters in this thread, only if Samsung deems it "out of spec"...

I fixed the issue with the Samsung F8000 and Denon displaying Anynet+ volume and TV volume outputs.

On the Denon remote go to settings, video, on screen display, and turn it to OFF.

I hope that helps Opentoe
