I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on the upgrade kit once you have it installed.

I just ordered it also. For 49.99 I thought it was worth a try and it seems like Samsung isn't going to have a 2015 kit for our TVs. Now of course that I bought the 2014 kit and said that watch them release the 2015 in a month or two.

Canadian side Samsung Canada Parts sells the kit for 350$ guess I'll be skipping this. The Samsung US site will not ship to Canada...

Ya, same problem here living in Canada. One reviewer said that WiFi no longer
works with the kit, only wired ...which would be a deal breaker for me anyway
if that's the case.

Someone in the last page of this thread claims WiFi does still work, but his TV is not an F8000 so it may be different for us.

I ordered my SEK2000 late in the day on 8/16. The Samsung site indicated "ships in 7-10 days" when I ordered. As of today I still haven't received a shipping notice email . . .

I've got the SEK2000 installed on my F8000 for a week now and it works great. You will get a Email from Samsung when they ship which includes a tracking number and requires a signature at delivery time.

Is this Evolution kit any different than the one sold a couple of years ago for the F8000?

Mine is out for delivery today, but I probably won't try to install it until the weekend. (See edit)

The F8000 is a 2013 model TV. The SEK2000 kit is the 2014 kit for the F8000 (and some 2012 sets). As far as I know this is the only Evolution kit upgrade made to work with the F8000.

Edit: It showed up about 15 minutes ago. The installation looks pretty straight forward, hopefully it will work as well in practice. The manufacture date is May 2015, and it appears that it is actually made in Korea. The packaging is pretty fancy... maybe with the $49 price they decided to only charge you for the kit, and throw in the box for free?

My experience of the SEK2000 install

I received and installed my SEK2000 into my F8000 last night. Before I started, I did record all my settings for that "just in case" moment. Once it updated and moved most setup settings into the new module, I noticed the following changes.

After the install the first thing I noticed was all my blacks were a dark brown. Before too long I narrowed it down that my White Balance was really off. Before the install, I had both the 2-point and 10-point White Balance calibration settings set and used. (I also noticed too a change to the 2-point scale that was changed to -50-to-+50. But the conversion process did change my original settings to the equivalent settings on the new scale. Basically it takes your old setting, say 16, and it will now become -35 = -50+16.) A lot of my initial settings came from our friend buzzard767 in this forum. After experimenting, I noticed that if I reset the White Balance 2-point settings back to default of all 0's (but leaving the 10-point alone), my colors (and the blacks) returned to normal. I am still looking into this as I don't have a comfy feeling about this. But if I think about it, it could make sense.

I also notice now that if you enabled LED Clear Motion under the AMP Custom settings, it will disabled both the Blur and Judder Reduction settings. Before the SEK2000 install that did not happen.

I still like my old Samsung remote (the long one) and not the new egg-shaped remote that came with the kit. Unfortunately, the Netflix button now does not work with the new Smart Hub software. That also caused my universal remote that had an activity button to start up/shutdown Netflix to no longer work either. Bummer. You now have to navigate through the new Smart Hub to start Netflix and others. Does not seem to have a shortcut to start Netflix that I know of.

If you want to change the name of an input, you now have to highlight the input source and then hold down the select button on the remote until a menu popups for you to edit the name. You can only can now pick from a known list of static names provided and not be able to create/input your own name like say "Soundbar", "DirecTV" like before. Another bummer.

One good thing is that if you have your F8000 set to use external speakers (now called Audio Out), and you attempt to use a TV remote to adjust the sound, you now can disable the popup of the message that explains to you to use the external remote to control your sound. No biggie, but a change.

That's it for now. I'm sure I'll find more things in the coming days.

My SEK2000 arrived on Tuesday. I was going to install it a few minutes ago until I discovered that it physically would not work with my setup. My 65F8000 is on a wall mount bracket that extends past (and partially covers) the place where the Evo-Kit mounts to the back of the TV. But the worst part is that the Evo-Kit doesn't mount into the TV, it mounts onto the TV and protrudes at least a half-inch from the back of the TV. Unfortunately the "plate" part of my mount that attaches to the TV fits much closer than a half-inch (about 1/8") from the back of the set. There's no way to install the SEK2000 unless I scrap my $300 Peerless mount and start over. That's not gonna happen.

Why would anyone with an F8000 need this kit? I have the Samsung Hub built into the TV already. I've only used Netflix and Amazon video a couple of times which worked fine. Why would installing this external device enhance the TV? Also, shouldn't Samsung be able to apply changes via firmware instead of an external box you have to mount? Sounds kind of weird to me.

It doesn't enhance any picture features on the TV. The Evo Kit is more about Internet connected content. A more richer Samsung Hub experience
