Hi C ,
I would update your firmware , to 1217 , I have been running it and have not had any issues whatsoever/
Sorry to all you kind folk who take the time to post your calibration stats , however I will always maintain that calibration is only need if the TV is broken from the factory , mine was , it was fixed ( new main board ) perfect white balance as well as perfect symmetry ( zero over or under scan ) no dead pixels either. Before the new main board , the TV was a piece of junk , I was on the phone / chat / e-mailed with Samsung and finally one day ALL my HDMI ports died , I called Samsung , how yes that must be that main board , we`ll despatch someone to call you with 24hr`s for in home repair.
Once that was done ( 4 years now ) all has been good , except the power on / off relay is getting old ( power board ) , that might need replacing soon , if there is a new power board to be had. I was advised not to seek repair until the tv fails to turn on , as "just because you don`t hear a click , does not mean it is failing " , so I wait !!
The main problem is in manufacturing , all boards are wave soldered and if there is a cold or cracked solder joint on the main board , then the tv will not show the correct white balance the tv was engineered for .
In other word , sure you can compensate for poor joints through calibration , but in the end the engineered "detent" Color & Tint" should never need adjustments , all other adjustments such as brightness / contrast , minimal at most.
Like I said sorry , but a tv that needs calibrating has a bad solder joint somewhere on the main board and you might need to x-ray every joint to find it or zap the board to see what pops ( send max joules through board ).
OK , enjoy , let me know if I can be of further assistance
