Sure enough I opened the front door and it was on the steps.... eek.gif Glad no one snatched it after six hours... biggrin.gif

Quote from Value Electronics Facebook page.

"Here are the 2013 Flat Panel Shootout Evaluation final results based on the votes of the attendees and our panel of experts. This year it's been a difficult task to declare a winner. Here's why:

The results came out so close that it is difficult to award one winner. The ZT60 won the popular vote in important categories, black and overall pq, but the F8500 has the highest scores overall and also won in important categories, like contrast ratio and day modes. In the past nine years it has always been very clear who won our Flat Panel Shootout event.

The attendees liked the higher light output of the F8500, so when tabulating the ballots the F8500 is the winner. They saw the F8500 as even sharper, which I would assume is also because of the brighter image in low and high ambient light conditions. Many participants told me the F8500 whites looked cleaner, brighter and in their opinion, whiter.

So the public has spoken and we therefore crown Samsung’s F8500 series PDP the new "King of HDTV" for 2013.

We also recognize and congratulate all of the development engineers at Samsung for making the most significant advancement in PDP technology this year.

Please also take note that the panel of experts selected the VT60/ZT60 as their personal choice. But even their choice was only a slight preference. As DeWayne put it to me.... “To me and just for example, if the VT60 is a 10 the F8500 is a 9 as I don’t care about panel brightness above 30fL”

However, we strongly recommend all consumers to use the same logic that the three expert panelists explained during our closing Q&A: end users should make their buying decision based on viewing habits. The three top contenders are all so very close this year that I don't see a clear winner and these three panels deserve our top recommendation equally.

In fact, all of the 2013 displays in our event this year are exceptional and have made significant advancements in picture quality, build quality and design. So my sincerest congratulations to Sony, Panasonic and Samsung for stepping up the game on PDP and LED display technology advancements.

Very respectfully submitted,

Robert Zohn

Anyone here have their UN65F8000 ship yet?

Mine was supposed to ship today, but still hasn't (from Amazon).

Just curious.

Thanks...

Those with the camera pop-up, I assume you are on 13.1? I am too but have yet to see this popup.

Anyone else out there that upgraded without the popup? I have both voice recognition off and motion control off(neat features, but to gimmicky to be faster than my hands and a harmony remote).

Looks like there is another new firmware. ver. 1103.1. And....look at the "release notes":

1.This firmware is for TV Model(s): LED F7450/F7500/F7550/F8000
2.The version is 1103.1
3.This firmware update will improve the following:

- Solves Brightness Popping issue

- Improves picture quality.

- Supports more MSO in OnTV feature.

- Enhances Voice Recognition feature

Talk about copy and paste. Ugh.

This was previously brought up - as you mentioned, the bottom 3 were in previous updates, and the "Solves Brightness Popping issue" fix is inaccurate - it was a copy-paste from the recent plasma fix update. There are no brightness pops with the LCD.

I don't even know what the point of that update was - since it brought nothing new to the table (that we know of anyways).

There was nothing exceptional about the Panasonic WT60, other than how exceptionally bad it was - it performed terribly and looked awful.

Sony1717, I too have targeted the 65F8000 as my next display. I look forward to your impressions as to PQ. I am very hopeful it is an improvement over the 65ES version. It is really difficult to get quality info from this thread due to past disappointments with Sammy. So with all that, Good luck and thanks for being one of the first to give your insights. Check6.

I ordered the 55f800 on Fri and BB never mentioned anything about a gratis Samsung tablet. Is this a regional offer or did I miss out on a time senstitive offer?

Thanks

I offer is from Samsung. On their website, for each of the F8000 sets it states: "Price includes 7.0" Galaxy Tablet (GT-P3113TSYXAR). Now through 5/18/13 only!"

Best Buy has details at the following link: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?type=category&id=pcmcat302300050017

Thanks much-called BB and all I have to do is go in and they'll fork one over. Only 8gb-good thing it can take an SD card.

My 55f8000 should be here by Fri. Is there anything I need to do/be aware of before I open the box and set it up? Just trying to prevent some face palming if I can help it. wink.gif

@ Radiowonder; Thanks for the results of the shootout. I feel vindicated in my purchase decision. smile.gif

Concur 100% - What was that doing in a Shootout? Stunk up the joint. No LG No Sharp and limited LCD's period - Panasonic is after all a primary sponsor and how they stuck the F8000 on the lowest tier where it was blocked made it obvious even Panasonic Junk WT60 was favored over Samsung, Sony, Sharp, LG. The Calibrators brought their usual bias to the table and constant warnings about the faults of LCD's while they ignored the extreme challenges of Plasma in a bright room!cool.gif

I went to my local BB and was able to get them to price match eastcoasttvs F 8000 65" price and had delivery set for this thursday.
Took my ES model back to PC Richards, which I purchased on Saturday, and to my surprise they beat Best Buys price by over $300.00.
The only downfall is I may have to wait up to 2 weeks for the tv but I couldnt pass up on the savings.
It is really too bad that the ES model didnt work out for me because I got it for a tremendous deal.

I just bought on Monday (5/13) the UN60F8000 and was astonished by the awesome picture (was coming from a Samsung DLP: HL-S5687W). Now that I'm starting to play with it, I've notice the picture slightly pause and then quickly catch up when watching programs on my DVR (AT&T Uverse Motorola VIP1216). My configuration when I experienced this was:

HDMI from DVR to Receiver (Onkyo TX-SR607)
HDMI from BluRay to Reciever
HDMI from Reciever to TV

I thought maybe the receiver was having issues passing the video signal through to the TV. So I modified my connections to:

HDMI from DVR to TV
Digital Optical from DVR to Reciever
HDMI from BluRay to TV
Digital Optical from BluRay to Reciever

At first it seemed like this solved the problem, but as I continued to watch my DVR'ed program is started seeing this again. It's happens once every few minutes, enough to notice and start getting frustrated. Has anyone else experienced this, or know what the cause is? Right before this issue I was messing with the Samsung Apps, which I had none. This morning I have recommended apps. So now I'm wondering if maybe the TV was downloading apps in the background which was causing the brief stutter.

Funny - I came from the exact same set and also have the 60F. Anyway, I had the same experience and it's b/c of the auto motion setting. Set it to clear (under Advanced Options or Picture Options) and that should fix it. I'm at work, but I could check when I get home tonight and give you better instructions.

That's funny about coming from the same TV. What drove you to get a new one? I started having this issue where it looked as if the same picture was overlaid across the screen every inch. I decided it wasn't worth sinking money into an aging set.

I'm at work as well, but I downloaded the e-manual pdf. Under screen Menu > Picture > Picture Options > Auto Motion Plus there is an option for "LED Clear Motion". I'll give that a try when I get home. Thanks for the help!

Yup, that's the setting. It cleared it up for me. I went from the DLP b/c my bulb was a few years old and while I could have pretty cheaply bought a new bult, I thought it was time to get a new set. The DLP was a great set and had better viewing angles and since it was a matte screen less reflection than the F8000. That said, I like the smart functions and the picture is great - not necessarily night and day to the DLP, but certainly an improvement (and I'm sure if I had a much more critical eye it would be a major improvement). Also, cosmetically the F8000 is the best design on the market IMO and so it looks much better hanging on the wall than my DLP looked on a stand.

Hello everyone,

Is the uniformity of the un65f8000 great?

I have a un65es8000 with a bright line in the middle that is only visible in light gray scenes such as sky, or during sports (golf and hockey). Besides that little annoying thing, I love the TV. This is my third set in less than five months so if the f8000 is way better than the ES I'm willing to get it, but if it still has issues I rather keep the ES and be happy 85% of the time. Please help.

I use it mostly for gaming with my ps3, Netflix, on the air TV and 3D blu-rays.

Thanks so much

I can not speak for the 65" , but the 46" is very uniform.

I don't think it's led clear motion but it should the first option under amp labeled "clear".

Can anybody please explain exactly what "LED Clear Motion" under AMP actually is supposed to do? Is this the same thing as the scanning backlight last year that was in a different part of the menu instead of under AMP? Last year it caused the screen to darken a bit sue to the scanning backlight but it supposedly helped with motion blur. Is this the same thing? It' sin AMP this year so I'm not sure if there is any benefit to enabling this.

This is a quote from the E-Manual for the F8000.
"Auto Motion Plus
Use this to reduce blur and judder from scenes with rapid movement. If you select Custom, you
can configure the afterimage and screen trembling removal ratio and you can view a sharper
image through the LED Clear Motion function. This feature is only available for LED TVs.
"" While Auto Motion Plus is running, select the virtual remote panel's INFO button to display the
resolution and frequency of the incoming video signal (60Hz). The displayed frequency is not the same
as the frequency of the picture the TV is displaying when Auto Motion Plus is activated."

Yes, but that doesn't really explain what LED Clear Motion does? I know what Blur Reduction and Judder reduction does - they are controlled by sliders in custom. But also in custom is LED Clear Motion, which is either on or off. What does it do? It says "View a sharper image"? Typical Samsung explanation. Is this the same backlight-scanning system that was used last year that strobes the backlight and affects the brightness of the screen?

My Samsung Model: BN59-01054A 3D TV Universal Remote Control arrived today. Wow,this is a great looking well built remote! Beautifully designed with it's brushed platinum face surrounded by a stylish chrome ring. The back is a high gloss hard black plastic with a tethered battery compartment cover. It just exudes quality! cool.gif
