Woke up today and my Big Girl (Sony KD-36xs955) finally died on me. R.I.P. I think one of the boards finally went out.

Anyway, I'm going to be moving in a few months and I'll most likely be buying a large Panny plasma then. But in the meantime, I need a second TV to use. Looking for the best I can buy for around $500. It'll be used for everyday tv watching and also gaming. I'm used to incredible PQ with my Sony CRT, so I'd like that to be the top priority.

I'd rather it be something available at a B&M store, but if theres a really good deal online I might consider it.

Thanks!

I'm considering getting the LG 47LM4600. I can get it shipped for $550.

Note a 42" wide screen is the same height as a 36 4:3("square") screen so a 46" wide screen will not make objects much taller than your current CRT.

I'd steer clear of the LM4600 personally. I think you can find much more viable options. That being said, it is going to be a secondary TV and that's about all I can justify for LM4600. I'd consider the 46L5200U from Toshiba, sits @ $629.99, and in my opinon is going to be a far superior choice over the LG in question. The EH6000 from Samsung is at $599.99 but again would be a better choice. Obviously the models I've listed are above the $500 price point so they don't exactly fit the bill, but I think you'd be better suited with the Toshiba and Samsung if performance is more important than being locked into the $500 price point.

Even though you are on the LCD board requesting recommendations, since you sound like you eventually want to get plasma anyway, why not just get a plasma for this secondary TV as well? You can get one in that price range and if PQ is your biggest consideration, they will be your best choice.
