At CES there was an extensive and exuberant RCA TV booth, the likes of which have not been seen for many years. RCA created all-electronic color TV, invented the liquid-crystal display, and – within the memories of people who aren’t all that old – dominated the consumer television industry. But, eventually, RCA existed only as a brand whose application to cheap radios and accessories sold in poly bags hanging from hooks tarnished the gold on that once-legendary name.
RCA TV returned to CES with a large booth and lots of enthusiasm

Interesting to see what develops RCA has only been an On Corp product with a new mfr since spring 2010 . All of their 2013 sets are LED backlight sets except for one LCD and one Plasma set

The Soviet people feared the KGB was watching them through their TV's ........or listening to them through their radios, so they kept them turned off often when they wanted privacy .

Now the NSA/ DHS are in fact watching us with our computers cell phones surveillance cameras drones, satellites etc !

The RCA you remember will never come back. It doesn't exist anymore. The trademark for CE goods was sold/licensed years ago.

That's true RCA ended in 1986 it was broken up and sold by GE and is now just a trademark owned by Technicolor (formerly Thomson consumer electronics ) Zenith is Just an LG trademark now . Magnavox ,Emerson,Sylvania, Phillips and Proton are now Funai electric products .
Same fate of many brands in consumer electronics or otherwise . Almost happened to GM and Chrysler ! Now Chrysler is Fiatsler and Buick now sells more cars in China than in the US. !

I sell tvs and stll get the occasional elderly customer specifically looking for an RCA or Zenith, unaware that those names don't mean what they used to. There was a time mid-century when RCA was the second largest corporation in the world, behind GM.
