First, I just wanted to say that I am loving my 60" F7100. I have got it looking great for all of the media I have played so far and for both light and dark room situations.

Second, I just wanted to say how much I appreciate AVS and the support this TV has been getting here. With that said, I thought I would finally contribute something...

New firmware has been released for this TV as of May 28th. According to the Samsung website...

1.This firmware is for TV Model(s): LED F5500/F6300/F6350/F6400/F6800/F7050/F7010, PDP F5500
2.The version is 1104.3
3.This firmware update will improve the following:
- Solves Network Connection issue with Wireless router.
- Improves picture quality.
- Resolves compatibility issue with Fitness Game Bike

I do think it is weird that the update has been pushed-out to the F7100 TV's and the download is on the Samsung website under this model, but yet in the description they don't mention the F7100 model. Regardless, seems like a good idea to update if it only further "Improves picture quality."

I don't have any bad viewing angles..
The T.V has amazing picture and motion!
So I would not worry at all..
There is no proof that the samsung panel is "better"
I can not find any posts that compare or point out any differences at all..
The panel is great!

is the panel on the 7100 the same used on the 7500 or the 6400? or does each separate samsung model have a differnt quality panel?

You need to have the IR Blaster hooked up and pointed at your cable box so that the TV can switch the channels when you select a show from the grid.

According to pirate above, he mentioned the td01 panel is manafactured by samsungs plasma plant, so I'm guessing different panels, but not entirely sure.

I learned on this board that all samsung "60" inch panels are made by SHARP. That goes for all 60 inch models..
I have had this T.V for about 2 weeks and the picture is wayyy better than my previous samung Series 6 ES6820 55inch and that panel was made by samsung. The difference in better picture quality was easly better on my "SHARP" panel UN60F7100!
No to say that my ES6820 samsung panel was bad at al (It still looked great)l... But my F7100 has freaking amzing picture!!..

I have not noticed it either. I have my Xbox and a gaming PC connected to the TV and have not noticed it. May be it's not microdimming he is seeing perhaps dynamic contrast or brightness is enabled?

The ES7100's remote does work with the F7100:

Its the SAMSUNG LED TV REMOTE CONTROL AA59-00558A AA5900558A , and I use one for back-up.

Thanks for the reply. That link was the one I remember seeing before. I need to try the Smart Touch again, but late last night it was throwing me curses I have to say. doing things like not responding to inputs from me, then the cursor on the TV screen would jump around, arbitrarily going where it wanted to. The biggest complaint was the lack of response. The language changes by itself also was annoying. I could never get the cursor to change positions to input my wireless password utilizing the screen keyboard. I've always been a fan of "hard select" buttons anyway. gives me more positive feedback. Again, thanks for your reply and the link...smile.gif

It's not micro-dimming. The 7100 has undefeatable global dimming in every picture mod except for Movie -- and Game Mode can only use Standard.

You can see it in any game that has dark scenes (elements like white text or a HUD will be muted). When the screen content changes, such shifting the camera across something brighter, the backlight will fluctuate noticeably.

As a specific example, Project Diva F exhibits this problem and it's not even a gloomy game. Whenever the animating background darkens(briefly) during a song, you can see the screen dim and all the white targets becom grey etc -- then a second later change back. Very distracting.

This is something that most people will notice. You may be able to live with it, but you shouldn't have to on a $1700 display. Since it's undefeatable in game mode, I don't recommend the 7100 for gamers.

No, it's not dynamic contrast etc; I have all such options disabled. I even toggled all the eco options on/off to make sure the TV wasn't confused. It's the same undefeatable global dimming the 7100 does in all picture modes other than Movie. (Coincidentally, I notice they have made this dimming less aggressve in a recent FW update -- must have realized people hate it.)

No, picture mode Movie is not available when Game Mode is on; the only picture mode available in game mode is Standard.
(You don't want to play games with 110ms+ of lag, which is what you get unless game mode is on.)

Another subject - When I use 24p with bluray I have audio sync issues are you not running into that? I have read others having issue sync with f7100 with 24p sources.

No audio sync issues I set my Samsung HT-BD2T's (Home Theather) to 0 milli-seconds on the delay and 24p output via. HDMI.

The F7100 is TD01, F7500 is TS01 and some F6400s are TS01.

I still intend to return it (but I have a long time due to Costco's generous policy). It's a pretty nice display, but has too many flaws for the price.

As far as when that change happened, I'm not sure. I was checking some pathological samples I have while writing that note and noticed the difference. I suspect it was from 1103 from a couple weeks ago, since I think I saw somebody in this thread mention changes to dimming back then (for cinema black though).

Got it figured out!! The problem was the operator, not the device...rolleyes.gif I still like a firm button to push, but once I got the remote figured out, I was able to get online, and update the TV. Now to work on adjustments and calibration settings....:smile.gif

One of the big selling points to me for the F7100 series was the supposed non-reflective screen. Perhaps it is relative, but I see plenty of reflections from the screen when there may be some bright light behind the viewer. Anyone else have thoughts on the matter?

These panels are far from anti-reflective. The top end plasma's actually seem to handle reflections better then the top end LED's.

Did a little bit more digging, and seemingly confirmed by senior guy at best buy, apparently you can't buy the 7100 and attach it to the stand from the es8000.. which is a shame cuz that was one gorgeous stand!

Anyone know if SD on the 7100 is markedly better than how it appears on the 6400?

My newest upgrade to the TV. Back lighting. I had a simple chain of lights from Home Depot that I had lying in the basement and decided to hook it up to a brightness switch. Hung the lights with stick-on plastic hooks from the dollar store. So far it's real effective at providing mood lighting without affecting the watching experience. HBO's The Pacific showing on the screen. The back of the TV looks like a halfass job but that's because I ran out of hooks to use. I'll be picking up more hooks to do some better management.

The F8000 has a feature called Smart LED and more micro-dimming features.

The F7100 has the gesture/camera options, but no camera included.

The F7100's dual core works great- especially game mode with less lag than the F8000.

Correct, the Samsung logo is unlit on the F7100.

The F7100 has a TD01 panel and the F8000 has a TS01 panel.

The F7100 has a "Titan Silver" bezel and the F8000 has a black bezel.
