My major worry is that the contrast wont be as good as my sharp lcd. My current has awesome blacks it has sharps xgen panel. The tv is scheduled for tuesdau delivery and worries the picture wont be as solid from being only edge lit.

Wow, amazingly enough this helped!! If anyone is having problems with clouding I would suggest trying this. Can't really hurt to try and for me it made a big difference :)

I bet u my life if u go to best buy and look at the pq of the f8000 and look at the settings u will see everything maxed out on that set and when u check the 7100 which is right under it those settings are no where near maxed out or in "torch mode" .that's the point people are saying. Yes I knw the f8000 has a better picture no doubt but is it quote on quote "superior" than the 7100 hell no Lol just my .2cents peace

All the differences you mention are also available on the F7500. The point is the difference maker in PQ from the “7” series to the F8000 is the hardware based diming scheme.

Sweet Jesus, I never stated the price difference was based upon the local diming scheme, I stated that it was the major reason for the better PQ. I agree, I have a hard time justifying the price of the F8000 because you’re paying for the smart interaction features (It’s the main reason I’m hoping Samsung will come out with a “7” series version of the current F8500 panel this summer). Hence, the reason I mentioned the Sony televisions as alternatives. And I put too much value of your life to bet on it. Cheers.

Hello! New to the site and I recently picked up a UN55F7100. My wife started working nights and I've been trying to come up with a decent way to have my audio come through headphones instead of my surround system so all my noise doesn't interfere with her sleep. I have a Samsung HT-TZ515 receiver (which I know I need to upgrade) and basically I have everything, xbox, ps3, and HTPC, running into my TV and audio going to the receiver via optical cable. I had a pair of headphones plugged into the receiver but noticed there was a bit choppiness to the sound and it just didn't seem to be quite accurate. I tried plugging headphones into the 3.5mm jack on the TV, but it seems that there is no way to control the volume to this port. I assumed that having the sound set TV speakers would allow this, but it doesn't appear to be the case. I tried messing with the sound settings, but there doesn't seem to be anything that will allow me to adjust the volume when having headphones plugged directly into the 3.5mm jack. Does anyone know if this is how it's supposed to function? If so, any suggestions for a relatively inexpensive headphones setup (aside from buying a new receiver)? Thanks!!

and like u say the 7500 has those features as the 8000 hence the reason that the 7500 cost more than the 7100 as well Lol because the 7100 doesn't have those features. But like I said its no dispute that the 8000 has a better pq but those added features are a reason the price is a little steeper that's all I'm saying Chin Chin Lol

The F8000 has noticeably better PQ than the F7100 and one of the main reasons is because it has a hardware based dimming scheme while the F7100 has a video based dimming scheme.

If you don't want to pay up for the F8000 then consider the Sony w900a KDL (55") or the w850a KDL (65") televisions. Better yet if you can wait a few months then consider the new "M" series or the newly created "P" series from Vizio. These will be full-array with true local dimming televisions that promise to destroy the F7100 in PQ at lower prices.

I suggest you read Geoffrey Morrison's updated article on local dimming schemes before making your purchase.

http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-33199_7-57617495-221/led-local-dimming-explained/

Amen to that, sony 900a price dropped significantly , I also struggle with Flash lighting issue in my 7100

So the NATURAL picture setting doesn't allow any advanced picture settings? Mine is grayed out. Is that normal or do I have something selected that prevents me from making any advanced settings in nat pic mode?

This is probably a silly question but how do I find out the total running time that the TV has been on. Couldn't find it in the menu. Thanks

Hi team. I just picked up a 60in 7100 and was wondering if it's normal for the tv to lean back slightly when using the 4 legged stand.

Thanks for any replies!

Been playing around with the Disney wow disc and from what I can see it seems the movie mode setting along with the adjustments from the Disney disc gives this tv a more Natural and Beautiful pic than the Standard mode which I had originally been using but all in all a professional calibrator I believe can have this tv reaching its Max potential. The Disney disc really has impressed me with its ease of use. Its a lot of trial and error but I'm very pleased So Far with the results I'm seeing. Peace

Our 65" does not lean backward on the stand. I don't think leaning is normal. You may want to take it apart and reassemble.

Thanks for the replies on the leaning. Maybe my stand is off or something.

One other issue..

Im currently using the built in speakers until I have time to connect my samsung sound bar. The problem is, whenever I use an App to watch a movie (netflix or HBOgo) the sound is super low and I have to turn it all the way up to like 50 hear anything. When I'm watching normal TV from my cox HD box the sound is perfect around 13 or 14.

Any suggestions or has anyone else encountered this?

I posted this as an issue on previous pages of this thread.

Yes, the issue is basically a provider issue. Since both the picture and the sound is coming over
the internet your provider is dumbing down ("throttling back") the sound portion. They want
to save bandwidth, and this is one method of doing it.

Hooking up a sound bar or A/V amplifier is the only solution..

I've had my 65F7100 for 2 months now. I've been trying all the different settings that others have posted. One thing I've noticed and I can't seem to fix it is that during dark scenes I get what I would call is a shadow image left of an object when the bright part of the screen turns black/dark during a scene. It's almost like a burn-in image. The dark scenes also look cloudy. During bright scenes the picture looks amazing.
Anyone else noticed this?

This forum is awesome. Thanks to all the posters

I am seeing the Samsung UN65F7100 for 2097 at Amazon. I am definitely in the market and wanted to know exactly when the best price drop will occur. I believe it is AFTER the superbowl but am unsure how long it takes....

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe...

well this is my settings so far considering my room lighting conditions and so forth but in movie mode the backlight is 11 contrast 100 (reason being the test I ran did not clip the whites at this setting which was weird to me and it seem it could've went to maybe 105 if it could go that far Lol) brightness hovering in the 43-44 range sharpness 28 for me color was odd as well but mine ended up at 40 (considering the test using the blue gel filter aligning the color slides together) tint is default picture size is set at "screen fit" which gives u the proper picture without overscan. Dynamic contrast is off black tone off flesh tone off color space native. I have white balance at default (haven't gotten around to mess with that yet) gamma 0 color tone warm2 digital clean view off mpeg noise filter off HDMI black level Low auto motion clear cinema black low

I have the same 60 inch. My TV does not lean backwards on the stand, but it does lean maybe about 1 degree to the left. The left lean was discussed very early in the thread. People tried remounting and it made the problem worse. I just live with it. In fact, I forgot all about it until I read your question on backwards lean.

I believe we all would like to know exactly when the best price will appear, but no one knows for sure. There are usually good prices right now, before the Super Bowl, so the current price might be it. I see on camelcamelcamel that it was $100 less back in December. You can wait forever hoping for the price to improve, or you can decide it's a decent price and buy it.
