Should have got two! smile.gif Setup 2 days ago and did the first firmware update. Also redeemed the free 1 year Netflix offer already. Got the redeem code on the same day I submitted it.

I'd call them first. I'd be shock if still available at that price. They look up stock/price with Item SKU when you call. SKU is 445205. Good Luck.

I called both MD stores. Over 10 in stock. $1499.99.

Got a Micro Center sale email today. The in-store "sale price" for the 55GA7900 is shown as $1,899.99. Go figure. confused.gif

Here is a tip if you want to use an IR remote with your LG GTV. Since the Magic Remote is bluetooth, you will not be able to send an IR signal to a learnable control remote.

You will need a phone with an IR blaster like the Galaxy S4 or HTC One. Or a tablet with IR blaster like the Galaxy Tab 7 2.0 or 10.0

You can have the basic codes for an LG TV, and that will give you some basic functionality (on/off, channel, volume,etc...) You will not have functionality for other Google TV activities.

What you can do is download an IR app, find your TV and test the different buttons. Galaxy S4 has WatchOn, which has some of these buttons. The trick is that some buttons might work slightly different from their labeled. For example, the menu button might not give you the menu but instead take you to Google TV or maybe go back. Play around with those buttons until you find the ones you need to teach your remote.

Some good apps to try:

IR universal Remote (google play store) - Free would do fine
WatchOn - Samsung Galaxy S4

I got the following to work for me:

Guide (or primetime) (1 click for GTV Guide, 2 clicks for U-Verse guide)
3D
Arrows
Home
Back
Menu (GTV Menu while watching TV)
Input
Rewind, Play, Pause, Forward
Back

Not working:
gestures - mouse cursor, which is obvious it won’t work
4 color Buttons (not that you will use them that much anyway)

Anyone knows how to get rid of the "Soap Opera" effect ?

Hey guys!

So, I've done all the tricks to bring up real settings while gaming and what not. But something is bugging me. When I select "Game" mode on my settings, and then proceed to mess with True Motion, it's grayed out and not selectable, and just says "USER" next to it, rather than what would make me feel more comfortable - "OFF."

My assumption is that the "GAME" mode grabs whatever settings you have assigned to the "USER" profile... I guess? But there isn't a standard user profile. Any idea what I'm missing? I want to be certain all my extra processing stuff is off for gaming... I *think* I've got it, but I'm paranoid... Thanks!

I grabbed one of these last week from my local Microcenter but just got a chance to set it up today. I'm loving it so far! Amazing quality.

So, has anyone found any ideal settings, or has there been a professional calibration that anyone knows of?

Did people turn off TruMotion?

I'm looking forward to making this TV look at amazing as possible.

Hi, Just picked one up from bb store (microcenter closed down the southbay store before sale) Rats... That was a killer deal!
Loving it so far. Was wondering if anyone knows best headphone setup. Will bluetooth work?
Either from usb fob or internal radio? I know the remote is bluetooth controlled. But not sure about pairing extra devices.

Tv's in front room and wifey and kids are in bedrooms close by so light night movies are at a wisper...

Need help...;}

Micro Center had an email advertised Samsung 7100 55" for Labor Day for $999.99. They sold out and are substituting the 55GA7900 for $899.99. I'd buy another if it had the VUDU and CinemaNow apps.

Samsung's prices are protected such that you'll rarely find a dealer offering a discount over the rest.

Anyone else experiencing Dirty Screen Effect w/this TV? I'm on my second, the first one was horrid.. Watching the Stanley Cup was annoying to say the least... I exchanged for another, which is better, but not great.. I'm thinking of calling LG as its out of the return window to BB...

My initial thoughts after receiving this TV last week.

Pros:
1. Absolutely beautiful picture (ISF setting).
2. Accessories (4 pairs of 3d glasses).
3. Remote is easier to use (limited buttons on front) than most other non-lit remotes. I've acclimated to the location of the front buttons.
4. Audio is actually decent for a TV this thin (no sound bar or audio equip. in this room), I don't think I have to turn it up past 9 or 10 (installed in 13x12 bedroom).
5. Google voice is nice (love it on my S4) but you really need to stop directing me to the Play store for your movies.
6. No dirty screen or pixelation, whites are solid and consistent throughout and video is smooth (I don't notice soap effects)...

Cons:
1. Outdated Android OS... C'mon LG, you reported 3rd quarter (hoping for a Fiscal but I guess we're getting a calendar) roll out of version J... 26 days and counting...
2. See item 1, VUDU not available until 'J' is rolled out.. Nice marketing by LG... Displaying this very model with the VUDU app installed.. You big tease !
3. See item 1, sluggish home screen when button is pressed - must be that smoking quad core.
4. See item 1, Google app store. Really ? You can't separate the apps specifically for this TV (am I missing something).
5. Ethernet first, update firmware then attempt wireless otherwise expect "(your SSID) out-of-range" no matter what you do.
6. Dark side of the moon.. Opps, I meant the other side of the remote control.

Despite the cons, which I hope is alleviated with the OS update (26 days), we pretty much love this T.V. I'll keep it until the UHD's become affordable...
Has anyone successfully got a DTV C31 client to work with the remote (via RF) ?

Big thanks to the guy reporting his frustration with the (lack thereof) VUDU app. I kept searching on the Play Store for VUDU and kept getting Flickster. No matter how many times or ways I typed it, it just wasn't going to work. I searched and found this forum, specifically you're post. Kudos

I picked up one of these TV's a couple days ago at MC for $899 as it seemed like a great deal. I decided to finally retire my Sony 55" SXRD for a TV I can hang on the wall. Anyway, I do have one issue that I hope someone can help me with. I have basic cable (no box) and my Sony TV had no problem tuning the analog cable channels as well as the .1 digital channels. This LG TV will not tune the .1 digital channels. When I try to manually add them, it says there is no signal. Am I missing something here?

Turn off "TruMotion" and any other cinema-type settings. I'm not in front of the TV right now, so I can't remember what LG calls them. You have to do this for EVERY INPUT individually. Also, when you watch something in 3D, that's considered another input and has its own settings, so you'll need to turn it off there, too.

I was just brought here from slickdeals, bought into it at the $899 + 1 year Netflix at Microcenter doorbuster "secret" price. I upgraded from a 2008 Vizio VX37L that I bought from Sam's club for I think around 850-900.

What's this soap opera effect? I haven't messed with too many of the settings yet, have most of the stuff on default except I turned off eco to standard for video and audio to music. Really enjoying the TV so far.

I did start peeling off what seemed to be the anti-glare film, so now my top right corner has a couple cm's of film curved off the TV a bit, feeling a bit mad at myself about that. mad.gif Did use a scraper I had around for tint on cars to get most of the bubbles out so you can't tell at all when watching TV, but you can still see that it's a bit weird in the upper right corner, not terrible I guess, can't see it when TV is on so I guess I shouldn't gripe.

Welcome, did you get the Netflix deal? That offer expired on August 24 2013 I read.

Yes I did actually, I bought it on the 5th or 6th of September and was told on Slickdeals that the deal actually ends on the 7th. I signed up and registered my TV and then uploaded my receipt to LG from searching around google.

Here is my post specifically, I was freaking out a bit that it was giving me different directions all over the website but I did end up receiving my code on the Monday after that weekend.

And btw, from the SD thread it seems you'll be super lucky to have them give you the actual price over the phone. I called and was told nope, ended on Labor day as a sale and it's back up to 1900 dollars and that was the 4th. I read some more on SD and decided to just go in the next day and check, printed out an Ohio MC receipt that a fellow SD'er uploaded just in case, I asked for the unit at the 899 price and waved the receipt (he never looked at it), looked it up on his computer and said yep, 899 (even though on the floor for everyone to see it's listed at 1899). Told me to wait up front as he was going to the back to slap his barcode on it for sale and I was out the door for $965.

That's why there was only 1 person that actually said they got Best Buy to call and price match because one of the people working at Microcenter actually told them the 899 price so BB matched and then told the guy that they're actually losing money on this unit for price matching. Others said that their BB's refused to price match MC, I never tried as I like to support my MC for doing these door busters.

I think Microcenter just wants you walking in their store that's all, no shipping of course.

What's it look like? I think my TV is ok but I'm just super paranoid that I can't tell because I just haven't seen enough TV's to know what to look for other than dead pixels.

nvm, just found a topic on it here on AVS.
rocky567's Avatar rocky567 08:50 AM 09-19-2013
Soap Opera effect makes the picture on your tv look like a video taken using your HD cam. It looks more like the raw video (not like the cinematic version). I didnt try the Trumotion option yet, but switching to 720 p movies is much better for viewing without soap opera effect.
