I'm still taking pre-orders for the x9b. One thing that is holding back some from buying the 13' is the same fact that they are waiting for the price drops and don't want to get screwed over by paying $500 more for buying a day or a week before a price drop. While technically I can match the offers from sony or BB I haven't been given official pricing to match it yet and I haven't seen Frys match those offers yet either.

Just saw this thread in the AM and walked into Frys in the PM with receipt. Came up $500 lower than what I paid last weekend and refunded $500 to my card. Took less than 5 minutes once I got through the queue to see the rep.

Thats funny. Frys said it would take them a hour to hear back about the 'free' promotion from corporate so they just dropped the price to 1 cent. I guess I can't return mine.

best by lowered their price $500 for the x900a in the last 10 days when I ordered mine and I went in today and they gave me $500 back on my card. I was unable to do this online but at the best buy stores support personal they did it quick and painless.

Star Trek Into Darkness has some amazing 3D and it looks AWEsome on the 55". my new 65" gets here next week between Tue and Thurs so i can only imagine how epic my bluray 3Ds will look on that beast biggrin.gif went to BB today and saw the new 2014 Samsung curved 4k tv. very impressive design wise, but poor upscaling! compared it to the X900A with the exact same USB video content and i was shocked how much better the 2013 X9 performs! Sony did an excellent job IMO with the 4k X Reality pro with our sets to say the least!

I saw Star Trek Into Darkness at the local IMAX, and I agree the 3D was spectacular. I looked it up afterwards and found out it was a post-process 3D film. I'll never turn up my nose at those again!

Just returned from Singapore and noticed the equivalent XBR-65X900A model there is bundled with the PS4. Note the prices in attached pix are in SGD.

Ok It cost me under a grand to build this particular one fully "Specked" out, but having said that you can purchase the i5 Brix instead of the i7 and build it for around 7 hundred bucks. You Can even go cheaper if you go the Intel Nuc i5 setup with intel HD Graphics 5000 chipset instead of the 5200 chipset in the Brix Pro's.
Now the Nuvolo NP-H1 uses Intel/Haswell HD4600 graphics set and for 700 bucks in terms of hardware - its looking a bit dated compared to whats on offer now. But if your happy with it then you or anyone else can't complain. Whats the 4k software they loaded on it? Does it have a XMBC frontend? I would really love to know whats included in it software wise. I or anyone else have never seen one booted up. Any possibility of a screenshot??

Just vlc, I loaded xbmc for my other content.
It's just a windows 7 mini computer, with a 3840 x 2160 capable card, nothing else.
I've had it 4 or so months so yes it's old school haha smile.gif

That would be nice since it appears that HEVC can be provided by additional hardware which might be an improved X1. Last I checked it was $4k including X1. Someone mentioned $3,500 with X1 but I haven't seen that and can't find that post anymore. Would be nice to see it at $3k and they can keep the X1.

That would provide me the option to place it temporarily in the family room and wait for the 79X900B to drop in price later in the year and then this puppy can hit the bed room. Before you think I'm crazy, my viewing distance in the bed room is very similar to my family room. No more 40" screens. smile.gif

yheoticaly because other Sony triluminos television models that didn't have it while looking good didn't have as good of colors. The only models that QDVISION list as supplying the Quantum dots film for is the x900a x850a and the w900a if you look at the s990 and the w850a both look great and are very similar specs as the w900a but have no quantum dots and colorist it shows. Don't get me wrong it's not bad in any way just less good does that make sense?

That makes sense. Thank you. I was holding off till the x950b but to me I love the color and for the price I might just pick up the 900a now.

I've never been as happy with a TV as I am with the X9. I used to own a Samsung LN46A950, the top of the line LED model from 2009 with full array. It was more than 3K new but worth every penny! What a beautiful picture it had. I sold it only to make room for a bigger TV with 3D, but the A950 spoiled me completely. The X9 is the only TV I have seen or tried in the last 4 years, including plasma (owned a PN63 Samsung for a while until stolen), that has really satisfied me. At the current prices its unbeatable for what you get... minus HEVC, but that will be resolved in some form.

Hmm interesting. I would have at least thought that they would have had a customised boot with it. Download Media Player Classic- Home Cinema including the codecs as they suggest in this site http://www.planar.com/blog/2013/11/14/playing-video-in-4k/
I find it much better than VLC as pressing CTRL-J gives you all the specifications on the file your watching in a overlay format.

My TV firmware has updated to PKG4.410EUA. Wonder what that adds, I was hoping it added Netflix 4k but no.

Anyone knows the details?

It isn't as easy as just adding an application.

You might want to read back a bit for the speculation that's been offered.

From Sony:

https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/45145/p/61659,62766,74133/c/65,66/kw/4k%20tv%20media%20player%20quality

"The Facts about Sony® 4K Ultra HD televisions and 4K streaming content:

Since all 2013 Sony 4K Ultra HD TVs are already equipped with HDMI® 2.0 and the latest copy protection (HDCP 2.2), Sony will be offering a solution this summer to support the latest high efficiency video coding (HEVC) video compression format that will be used in the upcoming Netflix® 4K streaming service and other sources. More details will be available soon.

NOTE: More information regarding the HDMI 2.0 standard, including HDCP 2.2 is available at HDMI.org.

All Sony 4K displays currently support the features defined in HDMI 2.0. This includes 4K/60P playback. They also support the newest copy protection that ensures a Sony 4K TV will connect to the next generation media boxes. Sony wants to provide consumers with as many options as possible, so Netflix 4K will also be available with Sony 4K Ultra HD TVs."

Sony has an iPhone app for TV remote control.

Comcast has an iPhone app for cable box control.

Anyone know of a way to have the numeric keypad on the Sony app change the channels on the cable box?

Thank you,

As of today Sony store has dropped price of XBR-65X900A by another $500, now $3999.99 and still includes the FMP-X1 for free! Just called and got refund. And on top of that I am still loving my new TV. Just wish 4k content was available and/or less expensive.

Found a great deal on an XBR65X900A at BestBuy in Whitby for $3999(CDN) last week. I think it must have been an in-store sale, as I didn't see it listed on their website or anywhere else? I was considering one of W840 70" Sony 1080 sets, for about $3299, but the difference in picture quality on the 4K was to hard to resist. Nabbed one up, sorry I didn't get this posted up before the sale ended. But after only 1 week with the 65" X900A, I am thoroughly pleased with the purchase!

I understand that these forums are a "give and take" with opinions and facts mixed together... so here is some feedback, followed with some requests for information.

Here is some of my feedback on issues that I have read through various pages here in this forum:
1) Motion blur in watching sports in 1080 (upscaled to 4K), never noticed any artifacts or jaggy lines.
2) Clouding, I'm not sure in which type of video situation you would see this, but I have not noticed any.
3) Mastered in 4K, I purchased a few of them on BD and some are better than others, but Ghostbusters is a marked improvement.
4) HDMI 2.0 update by software update, apparently HDMI 4 is updated to support it, others soon to come (reported on this forum).
5) 3D is over the top, picture quality is outstanding and no headaches with Active sync'd glasses!
6) The color on this set clearly has an expanded palette, literally there are colours that just can't be produced on 1080 sets.

Things I would like to get some input on:
1) I noticed the number of bits displayed in the colour palette (from DISPLAY button), but somehow it is not being displayed now, not sure which setting on the bluray player or on the TV itself, controls seeing that value?
2) Is there a listing online somewhere of what is officially in the latest firmware update, other then what is reported here?
3) I have downloaded a couple of the 4K Video downloaders, and found a thread on AVS that gives detailed instructions on how to use them, but they all assume that we have some 4K video source files! Can someone list out any of the sites that have some for free download?

Thanks in advance.

Well I just noticed it today. But the long and the short is that once this refund posts to my account I will have saved a thousand dollars since my purchase on March 25! And that's good news no matter what day it was! On a side note, I allowed my TV to install a firmware update several days after I installed it, but I can't tell what the version is. Can someone tell me where to look please? Be kind :-)

Home/Settings/Product Support/Contact Sony. You will find your serial number as well as the current firmware version.

You Tube is a good source. I can download 4K vids using Wondershare, but the TV does not support them. It will play 1080p vids from USB all day long. I've got a 4K TV that can't even read a 4K video off a USB stick. I'm sure its been discussed here on the forum but it makes no sense to me. Not talking about streaming, just a direct read from memory.

Just wanted to say thanks for this, I've been worried my 9005A would miss out somewhat. This at least gives me some confidence...

Except for the added warranty isn't direct from Sony cheaper at $3999 with X1 and I'm guessing most brick and mortar would match that. The link saids $4,500

I noticed your version ends in EUA.
Are you in the US?
My 65x900a does not have a firmware update and my version is PKG4.401AAA

The X9 is the only TV I have seen or tried in the last 4 years, including plasma (owned a PN63 Samsung for a while until stolen), that has really satisfied me. At the current prices its unbeatable for what you get... minus HEVC, but that will be resolved in some form.

Same here smile.gif done with Samsung and absolutely LOVE the X9! did you get your 65" yet? mine gets here tomorrow! biggrin.gif

Best Buy will not, I can tell you that. At least according to the rep I spoke with.
