Hi :

if I could trade in my 65 and pay the difference between what I paid for the 65 and what the 79 sells for I would do it in a minute. The 79 would look unbelievable as the center piece for my home theater. I could sell my pioneer elite plasma for about 2K put the 65 upstairs where the elite is now and put the 79 downstairs in my home theater.

See I have it all figured out. Now if I could sell my used 65 for about 5K I would be all set. Of course I would have to upgrade my speakers once again You get the idea. I should just stop thinking and appreciate what I have . I have friends who would kill for my setup and I always seem to want more and better.

Acctually thinking seriously about a 2nd sub. Looking at the Rythmik. 15 or the JL audio 13 or the SVS 13. I want a little more thump in my base. ( Currently have Focal sub )

Just day dreaming about the 79 but the rest may happen. getting a little bit off subject. My point is the 79 is one sick TV.

I was considering one of W840 70" Sony 1080 sets, for about $3299, but the difference in picture quality on the 4K was to hard to resist. Nabbed one up, sorry I didn't get this posted up before the sale ended. But after only 1 week with the 65" X900A, I am thoroughly pleased with the purchase!

I understand that these forums are a "give and take" with opinions and facts mixed together... so here is some feedback, followed with some requests for information.

Here is some of my feedback on issues that I have read through various pages here in this forum:
1) Motion blur in watching sports in 1080 (upscaled to 4K), never noticed any artifacts or jaggy lines.
2) Clouding, I'm not sure in which type of video situation you would see this, but I have not noticed any.
3) Mastered in 4K, I purchased a few of them on BD and some are better than others, but Ghostbusters is a marked improvement.
4) HDMI 2.0 update by software update, apparently HDMI 4 is updated to support it, others soon to come (reported on this forum).
5) 3D is over the top, picture quality is outstanding and no headaches with Active sync'd glasses!
6) The color on this set clearly has an expanded palette, literally there are colours that just can't be produced on 1080 sets.

Things I would like to get some input on:
1) I noticed the number of bits displayed in the colour palette (from DISPLAY button), but somehow it is not being displayed now, not sure which setting on the bluray player or on the TV itself, controls seeing that value?
2) Is there a listing online somewhere of what is officially in the latest firmware update, other then what is reported here?
3) I have downloaded a couple of the 4K Video downloaders, and found a thread on AVS that gives detailed instructions on how to use them, but they all assume that we have some 4K video source files! Can someone list out any of the sites that have some for free download?

Thanks in advance.

Hi :

Check over on the Sony community Forum for info on firmware updates. it usually takes sony a couple of weeks before they tell you what they have updated. you get better info here on any major update. the folks here are so familiar with and spend a lot of time playing with these sets.

Sure, why not? My X900 is connected wirelessly, and it's network apps work just fine.

Man, I knew you would ask me that :), lol. You are not gonna believe this. I canceled that order. It was just too big. I gotta stay with the 55 for now. I will envy you guys with the 65 and the 1080p 3D, but I still enjoy the 3D immensely so all is not lost. Now my problem is not getting the $300 price cut Sony did on the 55! Weird that Amazon, BB, etc. did not follow suit as they did with the 65. Best Buy will not price match Sony's website price, unbelievable. So what do you think I'm going to do in this case? :D

Hi Everyone

I'm the happy new owner of an XBR-65X900A and the associated media player. This forum has been an awesome source of information so thanks to everyone contributing here. Although i did read this forum a lot, i didn't got through every one of the 233 pages, so excuse me if this question has already been answered.

Is there a thread where the various 4k movies available are actually reviewed in term of picture quality ? (similar to the existing one for Blu-ray Discs).

Thanks

Hi

I think that he was winding you up or did not know what he was talking about. When you say wireless The only 4k wireless (Wi Fi , like the cable company or Netflix app ) that I am aware of is 4K streaming and we do not have the 265 codec onboard in our sets. The current player acts like a large hard drive computer that downloads uncompressed 4K data from the sony entertainment center (takes hours and hours if not days to do ) then stores it on hard drive in the media player to be viewed by us once we pay Sony for the privledge to watch a 4K film.

I do not see how this would be possible with our sets. ( That I am aware of ) maybe someone a little more technical than me could tell us how and explain it better than me.

Was that wireless from the network to the player or the player to the TV?

....wireless media player....

It is unlikely that the copyright protection from the player to the TV could (at this point) be achieved without a wired connection.

That's odd. By me they match Sony plus any promotions they are throwing. Don't beyond that. Perhaps look for the actual store manager. Commission might not drive his thought process.

Hi Lee :

Good point he must be talking about wireless from the network to the player. that I could see possible.

For what it is worth, i bought my X9 on the 6th for 4500$ (including the X1) from Best Buy, got it delivered on the  12th, went to Best Buy on the 13th and got the 500$ back by telling them about the price change.

Yep, I could understand them not matching a web price in general, but this doesn't really make sense. Granted I only asked a rep on BB chat! Haven't had a chance to go to BB yet.

i have my X9 on my wireless network as well, but i guess what i meant to ask is, how will they be able to stream 4k through wifi? the X1 had to be connected through ethernet. I guess the new HEVC might be the answer? If it is wireless, i will strongly consider buying it.

When I had my X1, for awhile I was using it wirelessly without issues. I had an AC1900 router, so that probably helped..

Tough decision it was. Look forward to hearing what your 65 is like. I'll get the 300 back one way or another

You do realize that the price of the 65" right now new is $4,000.

And will more than likely go down even further in the very near future...

And the price of the new 65" X900B is listed at $5,000 - and will (from what I am hearing) probably come down even more before actual launch...

There seems to be some confusion in terminology here. You didn't use the X1 wirelessly, because the X1 doesn't support a wireless connection. You may have had a wireless device like a game adaptor, which communicates wirelessly on the network, but connects to the X1 with a wired connection, but that isn't the same as saying the X1 is wireless.

The new media player could have on-board wireless capability, though. However, it will still connect to the TV using an HDCP-compliant HDMI connection. A wireless network has the throughput to support a 15kbs 4K stream.

I'm curious, here, because I thought turning Live Color off effectively disabled triluminos on our sets. Does that mean Quantum Dot usage is disabled as well, since they seem to be intrinsically tied together in the tech?

I'm no expert on this UT from what I've read and understand is that the Quatron doesn't put out exaggerated colors like many other color features from most brands. It just provides a cleaner light/filter that in return let's you get better colors. Kinda how the led back light has made big improving on the old cell backlights just by providing better lights. It's not digitally "enhancing" the color like with Samsung pur color. As for if turning live color off turning quantum dots off I have no clue because it's a separate film layer I'm not sure if it's even active or passive technology.

Sorry if this has already been covered off, my 55X9005A got a software update today (now at PKG4.410EUA) and I can't find a change-log anywhere.

Any pointers and tips would be grand! :)

Sony USA has gotten a lot better, and faster in placing update information on the support site. It is generally vague, short sentences, but they're making progress. I believe their new accelerated speed was prompted by the significant number of comments from this forum after the 900 release, last year.

Interesting thing I found on the Sony Italy site, the support page is already there for the 900B:

you may have a good point, my comment was colored by 6 years of playstation 3 patch limbo as well as almost a decade of virtually no support communication for Sony online entertainment and very little on our last Vaio. This x900a that comes Friday will be my first TV with them and they sound like they have made some changes recently
