Actually I just read up about the FMP-X5, and i don't know what's really so bad about it, except the price of course. It adds almost everything the B series adds - streaming, USB playback, HDCP (upgrade) etc. If it only adds the Google VP9 codec, it would be the ultimate tool to future proof our televisions.

I might be wrong, but I don't think that the X1 lets people store their own 4K content on it, so without the movie download service what good is the hard drive?

I've said it before: if Sony offered it to me for a decent price I'd willingly buy it, despite all my prior misgivings. Perhaps this summer 'solution' is no more than a discount program, timed so that it doesn't detract from the launch of the B series, i.e. if people could get the A series and the HEVC streamer for a silly price you'd have less people going for the B.

I said the X1, not the X10, and that functionality won't even be activated until late 2014. Point taken, though. Maybe Sony will allow for external storage to be attached to the X5? That prospect alone makes it a little more tempting.

Seems the 900B has its own issues and the 3D xtalk is good or bad? Confusion. Like I said earlier, I would only consider the 55" 850B. If it were already shipping I would have bought it. Also, after checking out some of the short vids, the X1 is pretty much useless to me. No way in Hades I'm paying $20-30 for a 4K movie that takes a day or more to download... and the selection really sucks. Hey, believe me, I'm completely tired of swapping out TVs. I'm ready to be done with this process, like yourself, for a few years to come. And best buy is pulling some crap on me... the box has "Inspected by Best Buy" tape across the top. Open Box?

That's actually really useful. You could download all the 4K vids off YouTube and just stick em on the X10. Would, in a way, bypass the need for VP9 support.

I have probably misspoken, but after looking briefly through the 900B thread it seemed to me like there were some issues reported... and there are mixed reviews on the 3D xtalk? If your set is everything you expected then that's great. I just don't want 3D plagued with Xtalk.

I have not tested 3D yet on the 900B. I'm really not in a hurry to. 3D was not a big selling point for me when considering the 900B. I have the 55W900A, 55X850A and the 65X900B. All are active. Active is what I know.

I'd like to have my TVs calibrated next month. Can you guys recommend someone in the NYC area? Also, what price range should I be looking at for a professional calibration? Will they discount for multiple calibrations?

Do any of you guys have a set with no banding at all? Or is it one of those things that some just have it worst then others.

Carlos, have you considered learning how to calibrate yourself?  The CalMan software/hardware bundles available from Spectracal cost less than one calibration for one TV.  It's is really easy to learn, and once you have mastered the process, you can re-calibrate whenever you want to at no additional cost.

Having said that, I suspect a good professional calibration to be in the $500 range, and you need to pay that every time the calibrator is called back.

I have never noticed any banding, vertical lines, red edges, or excessive ghosting or flashlighting on my 65X900a.

I do have a small amount of banding dead center of the screen also uniformity isn't great, light bleed and clouding from either side and the center. Granted on most content it isn't really visible... title screens for movies it's present.

Also the weird light fingers on either side is really apparent on lower quality signals... I watched from dust till dawn and The 100 on Netflix and the 100 looked great but not so much with Dust till Dawn. Which is weird because I swore I watched an episode on the x850 and it looked amazing....

Carlos maybe you test the internal netflix quality with both your sets?

Thank you. I have done basic calibrations myself using the Disney WOW disc and the iPhone THX app. Can you PM me info about the CalMan software/hardware bundles?

I have similar clouding on my 850A with input active but no source playing but once the source starts playing I hardly notice any clouding. Also on my panel the right edge side of the screen has some lighting issues with lighter appearing areas against darker background but that is very much source dependent. I guess thats the compromise we have to live with with edge lit displays.

When you select an input with no signal I thought everyone saw some clouding. It does this on my W900A, X850A and X900B. I thought you were supposed to test with a source outputting a black screen to look for clouding???

After calibrating, if my MacBook Pro or PS4 is outputting a black screen, I do not see clouding. If I turn off the source and the TV says no signal, I see some clouding.

We can apply the same to the huge price drops in the cost of the TV also. I know I am an early adopter and I paid to be one, but this saga with Sony will always continue. Lets see how long this X10 player offering works out and how long it lasts in the market.

To be realistic, we have to look at the X10 as Sony's way to offer Netflix 4k to be viewed on our TVs for $500. I will wait for the 4k Netflix app on a 4k DVD player, or other media player.

I am not complaining about the TV at all, I am complaining about Sony's tactics. I understand it is a business and it needs to make money but it is going about it the wrong way to retain or add customers.
All valid points, and to be honest I whole heartedly agree. But! We are a group that decided to jump on the 4k bandwagon during it's infancy stage, some here shelled out over 7k to be part of the next generation of HD last year. In the grand scheme of things from Sony's perspective, what's $500 to someone who's willing to pay $7000 to be at the leading edge? I was one of the early Blu-Ray player guys that dropped $900 for the biggest POS ever created, the Samsung BDP-1000 player...lol..Anyway, while I agree, I always hear a voice in the back of my head saying "gotta pay to play"...

That bottom pic is not good. When I first got the set I had some very minor manifestation of this on no signal screens or other 'almost black' screens such as when my X1 would boot up-but not content. Now it is largely gone altogether, even with the LED Dynamic Control setting off. Whether it gets better with time or got better slowly as I dialed the picture in, dunno.

I am really hoping I didn't make a mistake...

Best Buy phone customer service couldn't/wouldn't price match the current price for the 65X900A bundle that the store has. I already price matched it once, and they said I couldn't any more. She said I was welcome to try in the store if others were having success with multiple price matches. (I purchased it online.)

After probably 45 minutes in the store trying to get the additional $300 off with the store people on the phone with the phone customer service and putting me on the phone with them repeatedly, the guy on the phone said my only option was to return my bundle (TV and media player) and buy a new one. As I had him on the phone returning my current set, I had the store supervisor place my new order. So they are picking up my three-week old TV that I am perfectly happy with on Monday and delivering a brand new one that same day. Even the store staff was completely baffled that this was the only option. The brick-and-mortar supervisor was very nice and apologetic about the whole process. She said if I have any problems or need a price match in the future with this set to ask for her specifically.

Now my concern is that I will end up getting a bad set. The one I currently have is great. Sure some slight light issues on the edges, but other than that, its perfect. And Best Buy is getting a barely used, perfectly good TV back in the process. Makes no sense. Oh well, at least someone out there will get a great set at an open-box price!

Looks the same with a signal or otherwise with a black screen and some element of a picture. Also the center where I'm describing the banding is actually somewhat discoloured, I noticed watching the dark night last night it's visually almost grey.

Hoping the next set will be better.

That is totally ridiculous and shows Best Buy's "telephone" customer service stupidity.

I would immediately call Best Buy Corporate Customer Relations at 1-866-650-7110 - and I am sure they will be able to give you MUCH better customer service and allow you to keep your present TV...
