When Sony made the decision to add Apps such as Netflix into their products, along with that decision comes the responsibility to keep those apps up to date as the technology changes. I consider 4k Netflix in the same situation as HDMI 1.4 upgraded to 2.0 on the x900a

I am a software architect - sorry to get on my soap box there - i am practicing for my call with Sony.
I feel better now.

Let us know how you get on.

Seriously though time marches on - were all the specs for the transport and codec even solidified when our models were in the design phase?

And do you go after all the other component manufacturers with Netflix apps that aren't given the newest interface on 0-day? There's a hell of a lot of them. In the Oppo 103 thread I believe I read Oppo would have to jump through major hoops to get the newer GUIs. And they are several back...

Are other brand's 4K sets capable of getting 4K on their own unlike the Sony? Is the problem that 4K is so immature or is it that Sony is being Sony. They always have been "self centered" when it comes to compatibility. Is that the problem here too?

Morning,
Just wondering if folks wanted to share the settings they're using to watch the World Cup. Doesn't really fall into "Cinema" settings IMO....So what scene and tweaks are you enjoying to bring the vibrancy of this global event into your own living rooms ?

From the film Baraka (early 90's) - streamed over DLNA at a bit less than 720p and still the upscaling engine impresses. (iphone 5s quality below, unfortunately)

And yes that isn' just the bezel at top and bottom - black bars on a 2:35:1 film. I don't complain about my blacks much. =b

If you liked that, you might like Samsara. Breathtaking picture quality.

Yeah i agree cinema is not good here-
I am watching it with the default Sports setting - the colors pop.

Im watching the HD version from Comcast - can only dream about it in pure 4k.

I have said several times that once a display is properly calibrated, there should be no reason to change to different setting depending on content. The exception being 3D vs. 2D.

I am currently switching back and forth between the World Cup and the US Open, and both look stunning with the same Cinema setting that I use for all other content.

Can you describe what you mean by "cinema is not good here"? While I certainly respect differing preferences, I would like to understand why the normal Cinema settings don't look right.

Could not agree more. Unless you want an inaccurate picture with crazy pop, leave Austin Jerry's settings for everything outside of the small 3D tweaks.

I don't think the salient settings are particularly transferrable (white balance). AustinJerry - you do have your linked calibration procedure extremely well laid out - personally I plan on giving that a shot someday.

I have ISF calibrated settings available to me and they are also NOT appropriate. I think I just got an odd panel. (And my rusty calibration skills could use some practice anyway)

The vast majority of settings for us are portable however, production was obviously pretty tightly controlled as a first tech effort. Every time I try to deviate from any of them because I think they look better,I put up a test pattern and realize I was being an idiot (again). Last night was Reality Creation. I put up a sharpness/detail screen and could clearly see 2 things - you Do want Mi4k on - which means cinema. I also can't in good conscience go over 7 on resolution anymore and no need for noise filtering.

Sharpness at 50 may be a wee bit high but I haven't decided yet

Just a personal preference to set my TV on Sports when watching that content. My backlight is on max - is it accurate - no - but it is what i personally like and what it sounds like Tweaker was looking for too. I use your settings for watching non sporting events

Pure pop and inaccurate colors.

Got my new TV ..

Its beautifully designed hardware..

Question 1: So I didn't get the player yet for 4k. Are there any 4k files that I can play thru a usb?

Question 2: Also, more important and not sure what to make of it: the white doesn't look true white it looks like a faded blue tinge.. I don't remember seeing this at Best Buy.
What can I do to fix that?
Is there anyway i can run a test to make sure that the tv is doing the color output accurately to its standards..
I just received it and want to make sure I don't send it back without trying to adjust it.

Thanks

I improved my viewing angles and fade by going the Eco settings and disabling the light sensor.

Can't play 4k videos over USB. The back of the manual has pretty much every single input signal and format accepted by the TV for every transport.

For blue tint whites, turn off all the Eco settings as mentioned and look at your color temperature setting and make sure it's not set to neutral or cool first off. I suspect it's pretty bad since many peoples' eyes perceive blue push on the high end to be neutral white until they see a true. calibrated white.

There's other things that can be done if that doesn't inch enough towards what you are looking for as pleasant.

if you go up a few posts you will see a post or two by AustinJerry with all of his calibrated settings in his sig if you want to try them - many here love their picture with his settings. Unless there's something wrong with your panel I can't imagine you would perceive white as bluish if you dial them in. I have some alternate settings in my sig too and a comparison of AustinJerry's settings and what I use. He has the science behind him, though, so I never mind endorsing him.

Found a complete list of Sony 4K titles and pricing. Looks like catalog movies are $29.99 with a few new releases at $34.99. Over 20 movies available for rent at $6.99 or $7.99.

Random point: playing Titanfall on this through my Xbox is actually a pretty amazing experience. I play Halo competitively, so I'm used to feeling the smallest amounts of response time differences and input lag changes and honestly it's pretty surprising how good this thing is for it. Pleasantly super surprised.

Yes. I can tell things chug a smidge behind on cinema mode. Game mode is pretty awesome.

I was playing Destiny today on my PS4....just WOW.

The 900a makes me smile everday! I dont care if it cant firmware upgrade to HEVC, I'll get a media player of some sort. The upscaling is fantastic. The 3D is amazing. The speakers. I cant praise it enough.

For any lurkers thinking of getting this...GET IT!

Hopefully you dont get a messed up panel. I have one piece of dust, but i can live with it. I'm not playing the swapping game. It could lead to tvs with worse panels and me wishing i just kept the first one.
