This is my first 3DTV, so obviously I am just in awe of the PQ. If this is what 3D had looked like back in 2010 then no way would sales have disappointed. I hope passive 1080p 3D via 4k can revitalize the 3D HV industry as these sets become more common, but I'm afraid that it's too little too late. In any case I hope we continue to get 3D releases for a long time, even if we have to import them.

Exactly. There is no reason that our TV's can't support the new wireless sub, it's just a matter of them willing to add support via a software update.

They would be stupid not to, because adding support = more wireless sub sales, and we all know how accessories carry higher profit margins than the actual TV.

Smile Test Speaker System

Hi all:
Does anyone recommend a reference cd for audio to make sure all the speakers are working properly?

Also is there a way for us to know what software update we have on the system?

I got my replacement today without dead pixels and I am happy

Go to Home> settings > product support, shows the firmware.. As for audio, I would just adjust it to whatever sounds good to you. Audio preference is way to objective.

A few observations from a spell at the Sony store in So Coast Plaza / Fashoin Island today.

I spent some time with the 65x900B and the 65X950B. It did not take long to see that fine detail on the X950B seemed to be more resolved. What I found mightily impressive was the sense of realism during a snowy mountain scene with mist rolling in. The mist simply looked more real over the X950b.

However, when the sleeping baby appeared (an image that had wowed me so much on the 65X900A) I started to understand that in the new line, there was something missing. This I think is directly related to color. With respect to the sleeping baby, the sense of translucence and true color of real skin seemed to be more intense as I rememberr, than on either the X900B or X950B So the question is, is this a result of the Triluminous Quantum Dot technology which is no longer incorporated in the X900B / X950B?

I got a call from a sony manager today about my replacement for my x900a. There is no new stock of the 900a in canada so I can take a 900b at no extra charge or get my money back and find another 900a. It kind of sucks because I really loved the passive 3d in the 900a and that was my main motivation to by the tv. The 900b sounds like a great tv but I will have to move back to active 3d...

I did nothing and I see no lip-sync problems going thru my Yamaha RX- A3010. Inputs are an Oppo 93 and a Dish Network Vip 722k receiver/recorder plus a usb hard drive for extra storage. On the receiver I also inserted a Darbee followed by a 4 input, 2 output switch to feed both the 900A and an Epson front projector and still have no lip sync issues.

Pardon my ignorance in my question im going to ask. I mentioned the oter day how i sold my old sony bravia to a friend and the audio went out on him. Do tvs have a sound board in them that can be replaced or could i take the back off and see if something came undone and reattach it?

That is exactly how they treated me as well. I never once showed them pics or had any run arounds. I'm not sure why some customers are treated differently than others though. My issue with my 55" was the red ghosting i occasionally saw along with the awefull backlight edge figers i had and it took less than 10 mins in describing my issues untill they offered a new replacement.

So glad I bought this TV, with it's 1080p passive 3D. They say that 4K is the new 3D, but to me, 3D is the new 4K.
I watched Wrath of the Titans yesterday in 2D and the contrast, blacks, and shaddows were so great on this set that it felt i was watching it in 3D! lol will watch the real 3D version today It's nice to re-discover your whole collection on this beast. I agree, this is the way 3D was intended to be experienced, with 4k. Previous 3D panels were painfull to watch at times. I think we have a classic set on our hands. Time will tell.

I am holding my breathe for a good replacement. Everything is perfect minus banding during certain content. I honestly would trade some light bleed/clouding to have no banding. It makes certain things unwatchable.

All of us who are in love with the 3D on is set understand perfectly what you mean. Active is no longer an option for me moving forward. I would take the brand new X9B ove a refurbish X9A though, since they no longer have them new. I know its a bummer but atleast you will have the lastest tech to go along with the excellent PQ of the X9B.

I hear you! Banding is horrible, specially when you watch football, soccer etc. I got lucky on my new 65" panel and the uniformity is very good and to my expectations. Not perfect as no tv is, but SOOO much better than previous panels and some i've seen on this forum.

My last suggestion to my friend was to download the last update for the 5 year old tv. He did and it now works. I never thought it would.

Edit: He set the tv back up and the sound went out again, but then it came back on shortly after.

June firmware update?

I just got a firmware update in the last few days (late June 2014) on my XBR-65X900A. Can anyone find the release notes for this? The Sony site only lists the last firmware update back in April 2014....

No automatic Time Data setting ?!?!?!?!?

One thing that has bugging the heck out of me since getting my XBR-65X900A is that it does not have a feature to pull the time and date off of the internet and automatically set the clock. I mean, this is a fully internet connected TV that can even download and install it's own firmware updates. Yet, I have to manual set the date and time EVERY time there is a power outage or a firmware update. That is ridiculous, IMHO. Everything else connected to the TV has an automatic clock EXCEPT for the TV itself....

This was an unplanned update by Sony to fix the long load times of YouTube and other apps that was introduced in the prior firmware update. No notes from them of course though

Agreed - even my VCRs used to pull the date and time from the local PBS channel and reset themselves after an outage.
I gave up on that and leave the time blank

It's in the works.. Problem being (as it always is) money... Not related to development or implementation of course, but to how big a piece of the pie all the company's get when it rolls out. It's unfortunate they don't look at it the way we do (as entertainment), if they did we would already have 4K disks. Once they agree on the financial details it won't take long.. I hope..lol

I plugged everything back into the 65X900B and it came right up.

I actually bought 3.
There is another setting on the A under preferences called Bluetooth settings
You have to do that to register the device. Wonder if that is the issue?

Agreed. We are in the minority though.
Most people have not even made the jump from DVD to Bluray.

Get a UPS (battery backup) for your TV. You should anyway, do you understand that if the power goes out while you are unlucky enough to have your TV turned on, it can cause serious damage? You will also never lose your clock this way. As for the firmware updates, I think Sony will release the final update for this TV sometime this year, I'd be very surprised if we were still getting updates in 2015. So eventually the firmware updates will end, and if you are on a battery backup you will never again lose your clock.

You can get a decent APC one for as little as $100 for 750VA capacity, or you can go higher end like I did and get the APC J35B, which I highly recommend as it also includes voltage regulation & power conditioning, and its Blu-ray player form factor, looks well at home in your home theater.

Good luck with the new set. My issues aren't so bad, but I decided to go ahead and try a "new" one. BB is bringing it tomorrow. I explained the situation to the delivery guy about not wanting something worse than what I have and he agreed to let me check out the new one before taking mine off the wall and re-boxing. They even offered to let me come into the store and check it out. I almost took them up on that, but I knew I wouldn't have the chance to run a DSE/banding test on it as I can do here in the house.
