Also I'm glad to hear I got a Good deal. 2500 bucks.. I couldn't pass it up. It was almost 5500 12 months ago
The people that are saying it's dumb are plasma fans who are miffed that their favorite display tech is being discontinued and won't be a part of the 4K future. So that's why they're sour on 4k. Also they're holding out for OLED and they think everyone else should do the same. I'm a plasma fan myself, owning 4 sets over the last 12 years, but the 900A is an outstanding TV in it's own right, even though it's not a plasma nor OLED. I'm glad I waited to get this instead of getting the VT60 last fall. I made the right call and so did you. Congrats.

Update:

So My first 900A from BB was off tint and had dead pixels, got it exchanged, with no problem (within 15 day) and voila.. the color of this one off the box is much better!! Wait till I use the calibrations from you guys!

Sony Subwoofer swf-br100: As confirmed it DOES NOT work with my 900A.. even tho sony tech and sales said it did.. They got confused by the letter at the end. Its a beautiful piece but sadly it doesnt work, whta a shame. I would love to have the bass accentuate my built in tv's and keep a low clutter area!

Update complete..

.... self destructing ... in 5 ... 4 .... 3 ..... 2...... 1 ....... --------- J/k

Most of us are using Austin Jerry's calibration settings on his signature. I would buy my TV again for the price i paid - i like it that much.

Once you have purchased it, regardless of the price, it is water under the bridge. As long as you are happy with the purchase, that is what counts. And I have never had any regrets, not once.

The way prices are falling, that dream TV may be realistically priced within our budgets in the next year or two.

Thanks for all the quick input guys!

Now that I'm an owner I'll have to bookmark this page.

This is actually my first ever Sony TV. My only other LCD TVs have been vizio and they have been great for the money but something about the Sony (and the price) just grabbed me!

Sucks I'm away for work right now and won't be able to watch it till sat night

Why can't I see Netflix in 4k on the 4k rated shows? I have high speed wireless. Best I get is super 1080

How do I know if the blue ray movie I watch is being upscaled? It always just says 1080 but when I went to best buy the guy told be there displays were just upscaled but his was showing 4k (it didn't say 4k but instead the pixel count can't remember exactly)

Also is 4k really worth the money right now? I'm curious I would have been better off with a curved TV or just a nicer 1080 240hz TV..

Opinions plz

You know, I actually got out my tape measure to see if I could fit a 79" display on my wall. I do have room. Hmm.....

Edit: Maybe I should consider Kickstarter crowdfunding.

I already determined it would fit in my room too.

I've been considering the 79 for the passive 3d since sony is replacing my 900a and they have no more stock. The only thing is the 79 is an ips panel and I'm betting it's going to have poor blacks and native contrast. I'm probably going to go with the x950b for an extra 2500. I'm going to miss the passive 3d for sure.

What happened to your 900a? Can you request a repair instead?

Well my first set had a good panel but one of the hdmi inputs was dead. They sent me a new set and it had banding and a cluster of dead pixels the next panel had a bright spot on the screen noticeable on solid colors. They would have to replace the panel and sony canada only sends out new tv's instead of repairing. They could send me a refurbished set but I said no. If I go with the 950 I'd be getting it for 6200 not a bad deal and I get to keep using the 900 until they drop it off. I just hope the 3d is decent I'm not worried about the 2d I'm sure it's going to be awesome.

Hello Gents. I just got my FP (65") today from Best Buy. I was looking forward to being blown away by the 3D, but found myself sort of let down. I looked at the set on the floor while it sat waiting to be mounted. The 3D looked HORRIBLE....then I remembered that this is an LCD and the viewing angles are much more limited than my samsung plasma that I had gotten used to. So I sat on the floor and kept an open mind. While the image got better there was still ghosting/crosstalk. I could induce it and make it worse by simply moving my head.....After this I was let down. After the set was mounted on my stand the ghosting/crosstalk is minimized a great deal, but I still know it's there. I tried to adjust the angle and it improved a little, but it's still there. I guess I read into the hype machine too much and though it would be perfect. Should I be seeing ghosting on the TV? Simulated 3D was even worse....The 3D doesn't auto switch on and off either. I'm sort of disappointed with the 3D implementation and I thought that was going to be one of the main selling points of the TV.

Another issue I wanted to mention is that I have an Onkyo TX-NR709 connected via HDMI 1. When I tune to my HTPC I don't have a 4K resolution option, just 1080p. This receiver is supposed to pass 4K@30Hz via HDMI 1.4, but here I am stuck in 1080p. Any suggestions? I did find a work around. If I connect the PC directly to the TV via HDMI the TV apparently send my receiver audio via ARC, which I thought was pretty nice, but I hate having more than 1 HDMI cable connected to my display. Also HDMI-CEC doesn't work like it did on my Samsung. With the Samsung if I toggled the power on the set it would also toggle the power of my receiver, however with the Sony if I turn the TV off it turns the receiver off just fine....but when I turn the TV back on the receiver stays off. I know the function worked properly because it worked on my Samsung. Am I missing a menu setting? Does anyone have any recommended settings? I kept seeing references to using VE Shootout settings, but I never saw them. I'm going to go back to pouring over this thread...it's a tough task since I started at page 1 last night lol.

The 900a does have some crosstalk but it's very low. The best viewing is dead center with the screen or a little lower.

Thanks Adamd. Angling the screen helped, but I just didn't expect to see any at all. It's leaps and bounds better than what I've seen before, but I guess after all of the glowing press I expected a perfect experience.

You must be lowering your TV and your eyes should be referred to the height of the screen twitters

checks for exactly the layoff front of the screen and adjusts your height to your height is 3d without ghosts

That's the sticking point with passive. Excellent performance, but user participation in position is required.

Although, no synching, recharging or fiddling around with battery's required.

The 900A's 2d to 3d is second to none. Really impressive tech.

Thanks guys. I have it on a stand that has a built in mount. I'll try to take it down, reattach the hooks so that the screen sits lower on the stand. I forgot about this since I bought my 3D set so long ago. With plasma you don't have these concerns. I remember I stopped looking at LCD Active 3D sets when i found out that the screen goes completely black if you lay down on the couch while watching a movie. I didn't try this, but is this set thrown off badly if you choose to lay down and watch a movie?

I sit at dead center, and recline a little lower and I never see crosstalk or any other common 3d aberration.

It does not matter if your upside down.

You have to be in the sets sweet spot. And if you are, you get sweet results.

The only advantage of active sets are to be able to roam and be off center of the set. However, I like to be front and center of my movie. How about you?

Honestly, I have been where you were before. If you think you miss active that much, go try it on your lunch break. You will quickly realize how spoiled you are with the 900a.

The only downside is the four chair wide limit of passive. Everything else is gain.

Anyone try these setting with the 900a?

They are from the CNET review of the 900b. I know its a different set, but backlight at 1 was startling!

I really want to see just how different the B is from the A. (Aside from the poor 3D on the B - They can keep that)

I will have my replacement soon and will give it a go if nobody finds the time
