Sure, the player can tell if the cable is a Sony cable....

I play NBA2k14 on the ps4 hooked up on my 65X900A and the game plays smooth as on my previous 1080p 55ES8000 Sammy. The ps3 looks awesome too, though not as crisp as the ps4. colors look much better on this Sony. Point being, gaming is great in my opinion on this set. Maybe i'm just not as picky or a huge hardcore gamer, but I still enjoy gaming on my X9 more than any other set I've owned in the past.

Yep, the 3D glasses. The store where I got my set from didn't have the Sony glasses, so the gave me Xpand 3D glasses in place. They're very uncomfortable.

Also, what's with part of the 900a model year sets being made in Japan and second half made in Mexico?

Sorry you were offended. I don't think you should take it personally that we doubted that a Sony cable could solve the audio problem.

Would be great if you could post the settings. I have a 55x900a and I'm seeing quite a bit of blur on FIFA 14 PS3. Thanks in advance.

I would be interesting in seeing what you did. I've also been playing with the (limited) settings in Game Mode to try and coax a better picture out of it.

Every time, for over a year, I post an observation, it is only in case someone wants to try it themselves and give feedback. Or maybe it might constitute a "lead" that helps others smarter than I get to the bottom of an issue or find out something I could not. Or take a setting I'm pleased with and enhance my understanding or experience.

Instead, minutes after posting I have certain naysayers or contrarians who are unwilling to even try, even to say "yeah that didn't work, bud." A lot of people read and don't post so I never know what I might learn unless it's stifled out of the box.

I find myself trying to defend what is *always* a YMMV kind if thing with all of us having different chains anyway. So each particular item is no big deal I agree, but in aggregate you might see why it's no longer worth my bother.

Call me a martyr or whatever...it has been pattern.

+1

I'd like to see those settings as well.

I turned on motionflow to deal with the "blur" and it's way, way better. I know it adds considerable lag, but I'm not hardcore enough to care. And if I was playing competitively, I'd just switch game mode on and deal with the texture res loss.

FWIW, 60fps games on console look great, even in game mode with motionflow off.

The best things about the TrueDepth are the build quality and the matte black frames, no glare possible

I'm still using the Vantage Style Universal Passive most often. Although not as sturdy and can be pinchy on the nose if you don't tend to it, no glare and lets a bit more light through than the TrueDepth - Can't imagine they would fit over prescription glasses tho

But I have 4 pairs of TrueDepth and 4 of Vantage that I will roll with. It is a shame that so many models have frame glare, even the most expensive. Unacceptable distraction for me.
I use the Vantage glasses as well, based on your fine report a while back. They are very lightweight and comfortable and it just enhances ever more the great 3D experience with this TV. Much appreciated sir.

I hope its a good movie. I've seen too many great-3D-boring-story movies lately. I'm very interested in finding out how a Raccoon became a guardian of the galaxy.

For those of you experiencing lag on the 65x900a... What game do you see the ghosting? I have been playing NFS Shift and don't have any issues. I am playing in the standard game mode.

We need to hear from some people who are playing shooter games online, because there is a ton of movement in those games, and any little bit of lag, will get you killed before you can even raise your weapon.

I think people blow lag out of proportion. Yes, if you are a "pro" gamer you will notice the lag. However, it is not like you try to move to the left and 2 seconds later your character moves. We are talking about milliseconds that only very competitive gamers playing other really competitive gamers would notice. If you are talking about playing COD on a public server against bozo's the 40ms will not make a difference.

The biggest concern is the motion blur.

I'm not even close to being a pro gamer, and I can immediately tell when the game is lagging, when I'm playing Call of Duty Ghosts. Sometimes, someone in my house will be downloading something while I'm playing, or the host has a poor connection. It's not fun, for casual or pro gamers, getting killed before you can raise your weapon because of lag.

I can't speak about Call of Duty/etc, but I definitely see ghosting and blur in FIFA 14 PS3 on the 55 X900a.

Even in offline mode, when the players move quickly (as in sprint) or when the ball is crossed, there is a ton of resolution loss and everything sort of looks blurry. When players are still, everything looks fine.

Its not so much "input lag" as it is motion-blur. I never noticed any blur playing the same game on a 46" Sony V4100 (60hz set from 2008). In fact, I would sometimes forget to change to game mode on the V4100 and I still would not have any blur.

I'm not an expert, but its seems like the motion blur due to playing games at their non-native resolution. I remember reading the 2560 * 1440 monitor reviews on Anandtech and they would always have a section about the monitors scaling ability. So playing a game at 1080p would require the monitor to scale to its native resolution and would cause ghosting.

Now the scaling would not be so much an issue with regular 1080p content since the TV does so much processing in the standard/cinema modes. But it game mode, most of the processing is turned off, so would that mean its not scaling the 1080p/720p game as well as it would scale a blu-ray?

Other than gaming, I have no issues with the picture quality on the x900a.

That is a lot different than input lag from a TV. You are referring to "lag" caused by your internet connection. That is noticeable and very different.

That is my point. People are confusing motion blur having to do with the TVs input lag time.

When i play madden offline on my high lag input samsung 6300 everything is off and it makes it annoying to play. I use the kick meter to test lag. If i hit the button and the kick meter is still going then no good! That means every button is gonna be off.

Agreed. I also think it depends on people's sensitivity to noticing the blur. Its just unfortunate I see it as soon I start playing FIFA.

Other than games, the TV is fantastic, but I do play sports games mostly and the blur is just hard to not notice. Really conflicted about keeping/returning this set since I got it during the fire sale.

I play a lot of fps shooters on my xbox one and I can tell you that there is very bad input lag when gaming on any mode other than game mode. When in game mode the game runs very smooth with no input lag whatsoever. However, the graphic detail is lost in game mode when compared to my normal tv settings. Turning on my normal tv settings makes the game look incredible however there is serious input lag while in this mode.
