When going to the 4Kactivation page, I entered my model and serial number but I get a "invalid serial number entered" message. Anyone else get this?

As for gaming on the TV, the above post referencing CNET explains A LOT. I will say, however, that I'm a hardcore gamer (not a competitive one) and use my TV for gaming above 50% of the time. I turned motion smoothing on and it made a huge difference. It looks utterly fantastic with the right games (60fps). Actually, even in game mode it looks better than average with motionflow off (again, games running at 60fps). The lower frame rate games see a drop in PQ either way but motionflow helps.

If the next gen games consistently push 60fps, I'll be in heaven. If the lag bothers me, I'll switch to game mode. But I've been playing Call of Duty and not only does the game look incredible but the lag hasn't been an issue for me, even with the interpolation.

Count me in as one extremely happy camper. The TV exceeded my lofty expectations in every way. I was initially let down by the blurring effect of a slower game (although I hate to use the term motion blur, because it doesn't look like traditional LCD motion blur), but I'm over it. I also think that game may have had some blurring coded into it. Killzone, FWIW.

The motion handling is not as good as my HX800 but the PQ kills it.

Also, my manufacture date is May 2013, Mexico. No light bleed, very good uniformity with only a few almost unnoticeable light pools and no other defects that I can tell. It's crazy how fast we can get used to the size though. I thought going from a 55" to a 65" would be drastic, but since they're not side by side, the 65" just looks big and not enormous. Now a 70" on the other hand...

I get it too. I think it means you don't need a new input board.

Random question about the FMP-X1 4K media player. Does anyone think Sony would eventually enable the front USB 3.0 and SD Card ports? I've finally got the media player working over here in the UK with my 65X9005A and I want to get the most out of it. I'm worried that now it's been discontinued and Sony may never update the system to enable them.

the chances are probably about the same as them enabling 4k playback via USB on the A's

CNET's Motion-resolution test info: http://www.cnet.com/news/counting-bl...tion-on-hdtvs/

So it turns out Sony's XBR sets have pretty low motion resolution numbers when Motionflow/Dejudder is turned off. Its not an apples-to-apples comparison and is pretty subjective, but it is kind of revealing in regards to the issues in game mode (when motion flow is turned off):

The max motion resolution is 1200 because their test disc has 1200 lines of motion.

For example, the Cnet review for the X900B:

"MotionFlow settings of True Cinema and Off (between which I couldn't tell any difference) are the only ones that qualify on the X900B. They also the ones with the lowest motion resolution; just 300 lines"

Motion resolution (max) 1200 Good
Motion resolution (dejudder off) 300 Poor
Input lag (Game mode) 40.9 Average

For comparison, Cnet's take on the Samsung UNF8000 (1080p flagship):

"Unlike most of the other such LED LCD TVs, however, it can also deliver full motion resolution (1200 lines) at the same time -- you don't have to engage the oversmooth Soap Opera Effect to get optimum motion resolution"

Motion resolution (max) 1200 Good
Motion resolution (dejudder off) 1200 Good
Input lag (Game mode) 46.8 Average

Sony w900a:

"On the motion resolution test, the TV displayed 330 lines when I disabled the smoothing dejudder mode, and as usual engaging Motion Flow enabled the TV to go to 1000 lines. "

Motion resolution (max) 1000 Good
Motion resolution (dejudder off) 330 Poor
Input lag (Game mode) 19.7 Good

Panasonic TC-PVT60 Flagship plasma:

Motion resolution (max) 1200 Good
Motion resolution (dejudder off) 1200 Good
Input lag (Game mode) 47.9 Average
Ya thats why the sony tvs are gamer friendly. The picture suffers alot with game mode on. 40 for a 4k tv is great but thr pic will be blah.

Well there are a lot of names. This guy < is Roose Bolton. I won't spoil let's say in the books he is memorable, and he is pivotal in the show too, but they dropped the ball introducing him and no one can quite recall who he is. Shame.

But the show overall is a great adaptation. Not saying that. I'm overly nerdy about who's who and the history and such.

I love this set but I'm not gonna lie, it's not the best for gaming. Hopefully someone has some better gaming settings that might improve this.
I play WipeOut 3D at 720p60 on my 55 and the motion resolution is excellent. The blacks smear a little here and there, which is a limitation of the panel, but there's no ghosting or strobing. Same goes for Daytona USA in 2D @ 1080p60, it's brilliantly crisp and clear with just the occasional smear in the blacks.

What system are you playing COD on? Are you playing Ghosts? If so, are you playing online, and what is your K/D ratio?

Yup. I'm playing Ghosts on a PS4. I know it sounds unfathomable, but I don't play any games, including CoD in multiplayer. This is the big reason I'm more concerned with motion resolution than input lag. The lag just doesn't matter that much in a solo campaign. But poor motion handling takes a lot of the fun out of gaming. Especially on the new consoles with such sharp graphics.

I've played both the 360 and One on my 65X900A, I haven't noticed any issues playing the usual games I play. Gears of War, Titan Fall, Forza. Guess I'm to busy disposing of all of you scrubs who are looking for motion blur and artifacts instead of gaming. Muahaha!

Anyway, so my question...

Is it that the display wasn't made for (or good for) gaming, or the games weren't made for a 4k display? Easy answer for me...Guess cause I'm happy. .

That's the answer I was looking for. I only play multiplayer in COD Ghosts, and I wanted to hear from a legit player like yourself. You don't ever feel like you are getting killed because of the TV?

Is there a way to set the picture settings in the built-in apps? Neither current or common input settings seem to be getting applied to Netflix, Youtube, etc.

Go to CRACKLE, load a selection and make your adjustments. They will carry over back to Netflix. It's a half @$$ed way to have to do it but it works.

Now with the X10 connected, I'm able to adjust picture and sound in real time, for Netflix 4K because it's the same as playing a 4K SEN video.

Negative. .. I blame it on the beer..

Honestly, I think it's fine for gaming. You can really tell the difference between cinema and game mode. Definitely use game. I play to kill people, not to check out the scenery. But I can say I haven't ever thought to myself "wow , that looks horrible". Maybe some games just look better than others. ..? Gears looks pretty good to me. .

I noticed heavy lag since upgrading I had my 65X9005A when playing multiplayer on Ghosts using the PS4. But then again I've come from a Panasonic 65VT30 plasma where the lag is pretty much at zero. That's one of the biggest things I'll miss about plasma.

Nope, but I'll definitely be doing it over the weekend and I'll let you know. I'm looking to setup my SNES and maybe my Dreamcast for a weekend of gaming lol

If you're looking to use your SNES on this TV, you might want to get an RGB Component mod installed on the console in order to get the best possible picture.

If the fourth hdmi input is the only one that allows 4k video, how can I watch 4k Netflix content when the 4k sony streaming box is plugged into #4 ? Same question for 4k bluray player. Why don't all the ports work with 4k?

What do you mean? If you have the x10 Netflix is built into the box. If you do not have the x10 then you have no other way to watch Netflix in 4k on the A series TVs at this point. In the future, a 4k blu ray would probably have a Netflix app.

Input 4 on the television is the only place you can plug the X1 or X10 player. Any other 4K device can go anywhere else. The X1/X10 rely on a special security coding that will only work on input 4.

If you were to buy other 4K devices, they're not going to be HDCP 2.2 (most likely) and will get plugged into any of the three remaining HDMI inputs (which are all HDMI 2.0 ready)
