Where did you see this price drop Mdjones? On the day I bought the TV I also put down a $50 deposit toward the FMP-X10 so that I could get it for $500 when it arrived in store. I've since decided to hold out on buying it though due to mixed reviews. It's been my hope that another product (like Apple TV) might be a better option...

Question for you guys; Are the short 4k/UHD videos I've been watching from YouTube through Chromecast actually displaying in 4k? The video quality looks significantly better than other content.

you are not seeing them in "native" 4k; they are 1080p, upconverted by your tv to 4k..
we still can't see any "real" 4k on this tv, other than through the overpriced media server..

It has not dropped yet - but i have no doubt it will soon. My comment was in response to someone saying 500 was steep for the player and i was saying it was 700.

Something filmed in 4K and then played in 1080P is going to usually look better than something filmed in 1080p. You are not watching it in 4K though. Hit the display button on the TV while watching your Cromecast and it will show you the resolution of the signal being fed to the TV.

That makes me very sad and now I feel kind of foolish considering how many friends I've sat in front of this damn tv and told they're watching 4k!!! . So since I didn't buy the stupid media player I've never actually seen my $4000 tv play 4k content!!! Truly embarrassing.

How confident are you guys that the FMP-X10 is the best media player on the market? Now that I've waited this long should I just hold out a little longer?

Side note, did anyone see the new Vizio P Series is available for pre order at Best Buy. The friggin 70 inch was $2499 I believe. Now that's a kick in the pants. Please tell me that panel is **** compared to our Sony's!

don't worry; your friends will never know!

that media player is not the best by any means, buts its the only way to get 4k on this tv right now..

can't speak about the Vizio, since I have never seen it, but most of us here will say this TV is still the best set out there now..

The Vizio does not have 3d. That could impact people's decision About this set.

Well they were watching 4k since the TV only displays 4k. The content was upscaled to 4k rather than pure 4k
Details, details, details...

I think you should wait till the holidays. It is really the only one on the market so by default it is the best.
We need some competition from apple and roku.

I am a new owner (took delivery on 8-19-14) of the 65x850a and unfortunately I am disappointed. There are enough similarities between the X850A and the X900A and I would like to get the X900a owners opinions on the following (X900A uses many of the same internal components and boards).

I find the picture soft on cable but it is a little better on Bluray. My previous Sony TV (KDL65W850A -1080p ) was sharper on both cable and Bluray but colors and blacks are better on the 65X850A. I also get a skip/jump in the motion of the picture once and awhile when using Motion Flow- Standard or Clear (I prefer clear). I did not get this on my previous Sony 1080p TV. I was wondering if the up-scaling and Motion Flow chips where not working correct which are on the main board. Since best buy was out of the 65X850A coupled with the fact that I got a great deal on this TV ($2100-new) I have contacted Sony about the issue and they agreed to replace the main board with a refurbished main board which they thought could be the issue of the soft picture and the motion skipping. I am not happy with replacing the main board with a refurbished one. I am not sure what I am gang to do yet.

May I be expecting too much from this TV? Could owners please tell me if the soft picture a characteristic of this TV? Also do owners see motion skipping/Jerking on Motion Flow settings standard and Clear. With Motion Flow off I also see a lot of judder on slow camera panning side to side and up and down. Thanks for the help.

I have the 65X900A.

I have noticed recently that the nose, cheeks, and foreheads of people are very shiny - almost wet like. This is seen while watching most programs like news, games shows, talk shows, etc. I also see it when using high definition movie channels. My Blu-Ray player is currently out for service, so I am unable to test this, but either way this seems just wrong. I have tried to pick off programs broadcast in 1080, 720, and 480. This is always there now but more evident when I am off center by about 15 degrees or more. I don't recall EVER seeing this before. I am not sure if it could be a software update etc.

I have tried changing every setting on my TV to see if one is more sensitive to this issue than others with NO success. I just reset the TV and then reconfigured it with Jerry's settings also without success. I think its worse after the TV has been on for 10 minutes or more. I went into BB and looked at their various TV's at various angles. Not one showed this.

Anyone else seeing this, or have ideas on it.

Thank you for you input.

Until you can provide a different source (ie Blu Ray, Netflix, etc.) to the TV i'm afraid that there is not much you can do in the way of troubleshooting the problem or that anyone can help. You don't mention what source you are feeding the TV either (cable, satellite, ?). Really need to provide a different source and Blu Ray players are cheap .

I would recommend that you ask for that same option.
brenthenry. Any update from Sony about the work they promised to do for you? I spoke with Sony CDN and they essentially said 'buy the X5' for $400. They also gave me the impression that they didn't want to hear from me again.

Yes, I called Sony Canada last week and they are arranging to come into my home later this week to do the HDMI-4 board swap/upgrade. And apparently they will have the X-10 with them to install and test out? However, I have not heard from their tech as of yet to arrange a time.

Thanks for the update. I have the 850A and don't need the board swap for HDMI 2.0. Hopefully Sony deliveries on their promise.

Went to bestbuy and compared their 4k picture to my sony 4k 65x900a at home and still noticed their picture looks alittle more crisp and cleaner then mine, not saying mine doesnt great especially after researching numerous calibrations

even using jerry's settings and numerous others I cant get my picture up to par with bestbuy's even their samsung 4k looks better.Yesterday they had on "real steel" blue-ray on one of their 4ktv's, and the picture looked so real, its almost like live, like looking out the window, I guess some refer to this as the soap opera look? I dont know what the look is but it looks amazing. How can I get that look on my sony 65x900a? Help

Are you sure you have followed ALL the settings recommendations? For example, what about the Eco settings under Preferences? And have you set up your source devices to feed the X900 a 1080p signal? There is no way that your display should not look stunning when fed a high-quality signal like a Blu-ray.

I also own a xbr65x900a. Here are some pictures taken with my galaxy note 3 phone. The camera on this phone is great but let me tell you... it is no where near the quality needed to truly capture the awesome picture this TV can produce. The source is Cablevision-Optimum and the picture settings on Sports. Actual picture quality is many times better than what appears in these pictures. If this TV can make cable look this good imagine what it can do with a blue ray. My other sources are ps4 and a sony blue-ray player.

I'm guessing that the in-store sets are using vivid settings to get that wow-factor! However over longer viewing sessions those over saturated imagines begin to wear you out and become... "Not so real" after awhile.

If you want to get that same pop to your TV, just switch to the "General" scene select... On it's default settings.

I spoke with Sony Canada today and in fact they have changed their story a bit... Apparently it is out of their control! They can not offer me the X10, only the X5. Apparently the licensing agreements for licensing Sony Entertainment Network 4K in Canada has not gone well, thus that service will not be available in Canada... At least in 2014. So they are only able to provide the X5 to Sony 4K TV owners to allow them to stream Netflix 4K and play Sony camcorder video files via USB.

They also wanted to charge me $399 for the X5, but I was able to get them to match their previous price agreement of $199.

Good for you on the X5. The X5 can play several 4k formats via USB. There are some demo 4k files at this site. http://4k.cablelabs.com/

As for me, I think I'll just have to wait until other options become available for playing 4k files. I'm still looking for a reliable PC player so I can play 4k on my TV via my computer and HDMI 1.4. I'm still ticked at Sony for charging us extra if we want to actually play 4k video on these TVs. C'est la vie.

Hey all, would you consider buying a XBR900 that has been in use as demo/display at the shop (hence, turned on 10 hours a day 24/7 for the last 6 months) for a discount of 75% of its retail price?
King regards for your comments.

Yep, I think he's after torch mode rather than proper calibration, which isn't to everyone's taste.

General scene select, change the picture mode to Vivid, now sit back and feel your eyeballs bleed.

What about the Nuvola NP-1? I've read a couple of good reviews including some good things about the Nanotech 4K streaming service Ultraflix. Has anyone tríed this box? Sony Video Unlimited is not available yet in Latam and we'll probably have to wait until next year to have the X10 working in the region therefore I'm thinking this box could fix some of my 4K cravings.

Lol...all the calibrations I used from this site gave me a great picture, I just wanted to see if I could get my 4k tv to match their picture. I probably change it back to jerry's settings afterwards

This site, especially this thread is full great guys, one of my favorite threads online

Not sure if this helps you where you are located but i posted this on the fmp-x10 thread yesterday.

This company owns the nuvola - the media player that could become competition for Sony. I wonder if this app will be added to the X10 as well as the B series TVs mentioned in this article:
