Here is the issue: when I pass 1080p to the X900, the X900 display immediately starts blinking off and on at a rate of several times a second. It is not an HDMI handshake (I know because a handshake would interrupt audio as well). If I change the input resolution to the X900 to 1080i, the blinking stops immediately, and the display remains stable. I don't perceive any PQ difference between passing 1080i or 1080p, so this is more of a curiosity than a show-stopper.

I know at least one other X900 owner who is using a Darblet (sorry, don't remember who). I would appreciate it if he could run a test by passing 1080p to the X900 to see if the problem manifests itself on his set as well. I would like to know if I have a defective set, or whether this is an issue I need to report to Sony.

Edit: I forgot to mention--when I bypass the Darblet, the issue goes away.

I think Dreaux uses a darbee..

what happens when you send 4k to the tv? I think the Oppo can send 4k?

As reported earlier, the Darblet will not pass 4K. I prefer to keep the Darblet and let the X900 do the 4K conversion.

Was talking with the Sony rep today at Magnolia in BB.... he mentioned that BB would price match any price from a
"legitimate" on line seller for the 55 or 65 X900A. Can anyone else confirm this? There are some tempting on line lower prices out there than BB. Thanks....

Best Buy has a limited number they list as price-matchable vendors, but you gotta ask.  There have been people getting price matched from weird places before.

Java developers, when I saw what has been placed into Java 8 I was immediately reminded of how I've spent so much of my life trying to protect engineers from themselves. Lambda expressions are a horrible idea. Gentlemen: the goal isn't to make code readable for a competent mid-level engineer. The goal is to make code readable for a competent mid-level engineer exhausted and hopped up on caffeine at 3 am. What a disaster Java 8 is!

What about sony?

I feel the Oppo is gonna be a nightmare to set up...and I'm not the most patient of people.

I have been researching tv's for 6 weeks solid now, but unfortunately have not had the time to do the same for BR players.

Get the sony bdp-s5100 for $99 (amazon) You're be able to take advantage of Triluminos which no other player can offer when used with your new tv and sony's mastered for 4k BDs.

Anybody else's tv turn off and on by itself? I turned on my tv and about 10 seconds later it turned off ..then back on again. It tuned off by itself one time when I first got it like a month ago.

I have a oppo 93 and with that my 4k mastered option turns on in my tv settings when watching mastered in 4k...It was also hassle free to setup

Lawrence of Arabia is worth the $35.00. It is absolutely magnificent! I am completely blown away by it.

I am surprised that people here rarely ever post about the 4K media player and it's content. There is a lot to talk about.
Is there a thread I am missing on AVS forums specifically that addresses the 4K media player?

I want to talk about adding an external hard drive, for instance. So far from what
I can tell Sony has not activated the USB on the media player, but will do it through firmware later on.
Whenever that is.

I have bought about six or seven movies so far. I am very happy with all my purchases. Lawrence of Arabia, however, is, without a doubt
in an entirely different class. If a movie ever showed off our 4K sets, this is, hands down, one of the most superb releases. I am watching it now
and I am enthralled. Has anyone else downloaded it yet?

there is a thread for the media server..
http://www.avsforum.com/t/1467859/sony-4k-media-streamer-fmp-x1-699-coming-summer-2013/30

I havent bought anything yet. since there is still so much to explore with the tv/bdps790, and the media server, but I am glad you posted about Lawrence of Arabia, as that would not have been my first choice of a movie to rent/buy..

I'll start posting in that thread too, so maybe we can get more traffic over there!

Does anyone know why TV Side View for iPhone/iPad is no longer available on iTunes App Store and can you get it somewhere else?
Besides TV Side View, is there another way to connect iPad to the Sony 4K TV?

check the FAQ on the Darbee site, its mentioned, and if memory serves, an HDMI cable 6' or longer to and from the Darblet solved the problem.

Why does my screen flash when the Darblet is connected?

Screen flashes most likely result from color space mismatches. Turning off Deep Color processing in your video source device and display device may help eliminate random flashes.

What kind of HDMI cables should I use? How long should they be?

Use an HDMI cable that works. We don’t see any correlation between price and interoperability. It has been claimed that HDMI cables that are less than six feet long may not provide consistent sync. We have plenty of customers who have replaced short HDMI cables with longer cables and the new longer cable fixed their HDMI sync issue. Cables that are longer than 20’ may not hold signal integrity as well.

This is the only reference I can find in the FAQ:

My signal originates in a DTV DVR, routes through a Denon 4520 AVR, then the Darblet, and finally the X900.  I don't see that Deep Color is enabled on any of the devices.

Besides, the X900 replaces a HX909, which was working just fine in the same configuration.  Still looking for someone elso who has a Darblet to test this out, please.

The tv will be delivered today, I'm quite excited but also quite anxious about the setup.

I'm trying to install the sound bar, which will be right in front of the tv. I can see in the pictures of the tv that the x9 has a round metal stand supporting the tv.

Although the Tv is not yet here for me to see, I really do not understand how the sound bar can go in front of the tv if that round metal circle is there.

Any ideas?

How tall is that metal piece?

Its about 1 inch or slightly less tall, so you should be able to work around it...

my X900 won't be delivered until Tuesday. I'll test it then.

My Darblet had no problems syncing with my 151FD, nor my PZ70, but displayed the same symptoms you describe on my E7100. I do not run any video through my AVR, but everything (BR, DTV etc) runs first through a 4x4 matrix switch, then the Darblet, then the TV's. Swapping the input cable on the Darblet from a 1.5' to a 6' did correct the issue for me.

Short, less than 6'. I could try a longer cable, but since everything was working with the HX909, I didn't think it was a cable issue. It is worth a try.

just wondering, why are you guys even bothering with a Darblet? Isn't the image you recieve via this TV already fantastic? How can the Darblet possibly improve this?

and, the more "links" in the "chain", would degrade the image, normally..

never had one, so I can't speak to it..

thanks

I won't know until my x900 is delivered and setup whether the Darblet will improve or degrade the picture. I do know it was something had not considered (I'm always skeptical of these type of devices) until I had seen one for myself on a friends 141 panel. Since then I have used mine on my 151, PZ70, and my E7100 and can see improvements in detail and clarity. Tough to describe, easy to display with the split screen. There are some demo pictures on the Darbee site you should look at.

That is a fair question. The Darblet provides a picture enhancement to the image that carries over to the up-scaled 4K image on the X900. In other words, when you toggle the Darbee enhancement off and on using its remote control, you can still see the improvement on the X900, and the improvement is worth continuing to use the Darblet. Anyone who hasn't tried a Darblet, it is well worth the price, and highly recommended by all the Darblet owners in the dedicated AVS thread.

The Sony MDR-DS6500 was very easy to setup with the XBR65X900A. The optical cable is the only connection.

Pros
1. very comfortable, probably adjustable to 8.25 sized heads.
2. no dropout even with WiFi and other electronics running in the house.
3. 5.1 Dolby effects with Netflix, Bluray and other sources can fool you where the sound is coming from.
4. "effects" provide noticeable differences in sound.
5. compression works for speech and heavy bass.

Cons
1. Non 5.1 sounds weak with "Cinema" mode. Need "none" and level above 8 for adequate sound.
2. Cannot accommodate another headset.

1. Non 5.1 sounds weak with "Cinema" mode. Need "none" and level above 8 for adequate sound.
2. Cannot accommodate another headset.

Yes you can add a headset

I bought this with a pair of head phones. You can either go out of the tv or the BR player.
