My U-vision converter has shipped. I reviewed the set on my Examiner page after a few days of playing around with it, albeit I have never used the internal speakers to hear how it sounds. I will review this thing when it gets here.

I have good sets to compare to including a Pioneer Kuro,

I have 500 or so Blu-rays and another 200 or more HD DVDs to source some good stuff off of. Though I haven't done it yet I'm going to put some Laserdiscs to it using a scaler I have & include those results when the U-Vision gets here.

It's not a bad TV seeing as it is already at bottom feeder prices for the screen size.

Mine arrived this afternoon, and I promptly put it through its paces. As I had anticipated, cable TV benefits the least from the upscaling. My 1080p sources, however, show definite (though slight) improvements in detail and color rendition. If you have the title, check out Charlize Theron's eyes in the opening sequences of "Aeon Flux"...if you look closely, you can just make out the tiny yellow flecks in her green eyes. And...are they actually ringed in navy blue? I'll have to take another look sometime. wink.gif

Got my converter in can see more detail but I'm having flickering problems in pot player I need a new computer waiting on a hardware media player that will play 2160 files.XBMC and Zoomplayer seem to work the best with my older graphics card.What's the best setup for this upscaler and will it be needed when newer hardware arrives also is 30 hz as high as these older siekis will go in 4k?
Seen a sharp aquos 4k it was awesome but 2100 clams.

I've chatted with a couple of industry people, and as of this writing it looks like only Comcast cable is planning on broadcasting content in 4K at 60 Hz via their OnDemand service, and that is not expected to be in wide distribution until early 2015. Nuvola just signed an agreement with an Asian TV maker to include their player tech in a line of glasses-free TVs which will not be available in the US. The Nuvola media player is currently shipping (thought it's listed as being out of stock), but it will be limited to 30 Hz output. As for the Seiki device, you need to set your cable box to output all channels at 720p to obtain scaling to 1080p; any 1080p source (including your computer) is automatically scaled to 2160p. The new Pro line from Seiki will have 60 Hz input/display capability in 4K, but you may still need the upscaler for any "legacy" content such as cable TV, Blu-Ray, and non-4K streams.

Remember when shopping for a new computer that if you're looking at using onboard graphics the 3rd gen Intel HD 4000 chipsets will drive the display at 4K in Windows 7. Live streaming of content via YouTube may require an i7 processor, but even an i5 should be able to play back content that has been downloaded to your HDD. Of all the software I've tried, VLC works the best and provides the smoothest playback at 24 Hz to 30 Hz.

Thanks for all the detailed info would I gain anymore detail using the Samsung 6700 blue ray upscaler 4k blue ray player and also are HDMI 1.4 cables important using an older belkin in the sieki converter since also my HDMI port on my laptop is older as well going into the TV i m using the reiki cable supplied with the TV.So even the Sony 4k and others are presently 4k 30hz?

yes sony,samsung,seiki,tcl ie all 2013 model TV's are limited to 30hz 1.4a for 4k until hdmi 2.0 hdmi sets are available,
the Samsung BD-H6500 and the lower cost BD-F6700 works very well with the seiki 4k sets, especially YT 2160p 24-30hz video,sony bd-s6200 is a great upscale bd player but not for YT clips as they currently don't upscale.to the seiki.probably only for sony 4k TV's for now
just ordered a Gigabyte Brix GB-BXi5 4570 NUC computer which will output 4k@24-30hz with intel iris 5200 graphics on motherboard,should be fun,
also a nuvola NP-1 whenever it is shipping
have 2 u-vision hdmi cables and soon 2 u-vision adapters to A-B with the 39" & 55" 4k seiki's Vs upscaling from BD players,(and a pioneer vsx-1123 4 upscaling or passthru AVR )so A/B/C hehe!

That's awesome sound like you got all the goodies.Guess I'll wait a bit on the 2160 players don't suppose the 6700 would play 2160 most likely downscale to 1080.I'm kinda wondering if there maybe a codec in the works that would handle 4k speed probably still need the hardware tho .

I was about to pull the trigger on a Vizio E600i-B3....thinking that 4k TVs were way out of my price range...but now the seiki 50inch 4k tv has caught my attention. Can anyone offer any wildly subjective advice on which way I should go?

My strongest thought is that 95% of content I watch on my tv is just regular tv broadcasting (Verizon Fios tv and movie channels)...so the 4k wouldn't offer anything for me (except for when I hook up to a pc to show example 4k resolution video to dazzle the crowd)...

Got this 50" SE50UY04 LED TV set from Amazon and the first delivery had a cracked screen. eek.gif
Went for the replacement instead of the refund and the 2nd set is working fine, looks pretty good so far but I'm only using it as a PC monitor so far.

NVDIA G-Force GTX-560 doesn't do 4k so its only 1080p.
I don't mind springing for a new 4K capable card once I can determine its going to payoff in some decent content.

The 1080p over HDMI suffers with over-scan so I'm currently on a lower custom resolution reported as:
1080p, 1824 x 1026 60hz 32-bit color depth

Haven't tried to hook up my PS4 or Xbox One etc. but hearing about this cable sounds good.

So are owner's calling Seiki customer service to get the cable or going through a website link?

If I'm not mistaken, the offer for the free cable or adapter expired around the end of April. However, both the cable and the adapter are available from sources like Amazon and Newegg. This article might be helpful in choosing the right GPU:

I'll be giving the cable a spin shortly, just came in today. The current crop of more expensive 4K sets look a bit under developed in one way or other for the price. The next models should be better so this seems like a good way to get 4k ramped up at great value.

The link has some excellent info as well. The article is from August last year but it appears AMD was ahead of the game on 4K card support so will have to give them a look in building a new PC.

For now I'll give the cable a spin with 1080p content from the PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Thanks.

not sure if this was already asked... anyone know how to disable the speakers once a headphone is connected to the TV?

mine has audio coming out of the speakers even when a headphone is plugged in. muting the TV also mutes the sound from the headphone.

would like to know as well.

pretty surprised not many have made comments on this particular TV. I got in on the $449 for 50 inch deal on Amazon. 4k for that price was too tempting for me so I had to get it.

Anything I should know about once I receive it? Any blemishes or issues that I should watch out for? Thanks in advanced, and looking forward to this budget 4k TV.

really hoping someone can help me. I'm getting no response from seiki support whatsoever through phone or email

I have the 50 in model SE50UY04. it is on the latest firmware from the seiki site which is may 2013 (edit: fffff, looks like i downgraded my firmware from 1.1 to 1.0, please tell me someone has the 1.1 firmware)

when the scene changes from light to dark multiple times in a movie or show (such as the camera cutting back and forth between 2 people's faces, and one is on a dark background and one is light), sometimes the backlight noticeably dims or brightens much too late, up to a full second. sometimes it can't "decide" on a backlight setting and dims and brightens multiple times on a camera shot that doesnt really change - this second thing usually happens on darker scenes

i was going to try disabling dynamic luminance control but it simply is not in my menu.

help!

Question Help me reduce the input lag at 4K

Does anyone know of a way to reduce input lag when using in 4K @ 30Hz? I'm using this as a 4K HDMI monitor for development and it's connected to my MacBook Pro Retina 15" running OS X Mavericks 10.9.4. It looks nice after calibration though I'll still borrow someone's *.icc file if they have one!

Anyway, the issue I'm facing is that the keyboard and mouse input seem a little laggy i.e. there is a delay between me moving my hands and the keys/mouse pointer affecting the screen. 4K videos run really smooth, so it's not the 30Hz issue. Also, this is for development, NOT gaming but it's still quite noticeable and annoying.

I've updated the firmware off Seiki's website (http://www.seiki.com/Firmwares/SE50UY04_20130528.zip) but I think I might have 'downgraded' the firmware

Out of the box:
Code:
Version Info
Baseline: 179
Customer Ver: Ver 1.1
Order Form: SY13243
Board Ver: ST2975K_R10.3
Panel Info: CMI_V500DK1_LS1
Customer: Seiki
Produce Date: Aug 26, 2013
Produce Time: 15:00:29

Release Version:
Boot Ver: 0001.0716.1017
Linux Ver: 000
Video Ver: 564869
Audio Ver: 494203
AP Ver: 513407
After "latest" firmware update (marked changes with <==)
Code:
Version Info
Baseline: 522712  <==
Customer Ver: Ver 1.0 <==
Order Form: SY13121 <==
Board Ver: ST2975K_R10.3
Panel Info: CMI_V500DK1_LS1
Customer: Seiki
Produce Date: May 21, 2013 <==
Produce Time: 02:44:22 PM <==

Linux Ver: 000
Video Ver: 502040 <==
Audio Ver: 494203
AP Ver: 522712 <==
It's interesting because post-firmware upgrade, the AP Version (presumable the Applications processor controlling the TV) seems upgraded but the internal Video drivers (Video Ver) seem to be downgraded.

Anyway, back to topic, how can I minimize the input lag on this display at 4K @ 30Hz? This is for development, not gaming but it's still noticeable and annoying.

I finally got in touch with seiki support. they said they can't help with backlight issues and it's probably defective. they also wouldn't/couldn't provide the 1.1 firmware despite it shipping on the tv since at least august 2013

I'm getting a replacement through amazon and will follow up.

Try this software...it's experimental but it might just work for you:
