Not sure if anyone here has experienced this problem. But I purchased my EK on a pre-order from Currys for £250 and was very excited when it arrived. Upon reading the instructions I immediately upgraded my TV which is connected by WiFi to the latest software, unplugged TV from mains and simple connection of the EK to rear of my TV - job done. Reconnected the TV to the mains and switched TV by its remote but after the initial Smart TV logo appearing TV just launched into the normal TV mode and not as expecting into Evolution Kit upgrade menu. Switched off TV and re-checked that EK was properly seated and tried again - still nothing and repeated for a 3rd attempt. Finally, contacted Samsung who in the end organised for an engineer to call out. Engineer arrived and he too after following the same process could not get the EK software to load so his conclusion after various troubleshooting is that the EK was bricked. Called into one of Currys flagship stalls and explained the situation to one of the TV sales specialist who apparently had done the training at Samsung. Using my EK they tried it out on one of their ES8000 TV and viola experienced the same issue as me where the EK was still not being detected by the TV so at least for me it confirmed that there was nothing wrong with my TV. Fortunately, they had just got one EK in stock so they retrieved that and tried it out on their TV first before I could take possession of it and low and behold the result was the same EK was not detected. Their store manager then mentions that it needs to be connected to the internet for it to activated so the Sales guy promptly set the TV up to WiFi but still the result was the same. Anyway, I said OK let me try it again (already at this stage feeling like an expert) the new EK on my TV as I have easier access to connecting the Ethernet cable to my TV. So returned home and tried that but still that too didn't work so returned the unit back and got my monies returned.
Went to another AV reseller 'Richer Sounds' explained my situation to which they had ordered and delivered to their store. They too retrieved an ES8000 TV and connected the EK unit in pretty much the same way too my amazement the EK was still not being detected - resulting in the same.
So with two independent suppliers not having any luck could this be that I was just unfortunate or are the early wave of EK despatched just bricks?
Same problem here. Just received 2 evolution kits from John Lewis.
Tried both kits in succession on one TV (UE55ES8000) and no joy. Tried and the second TV (same model) and no joy either. Both TV's were upgraded to firmware 2009 using the online update method, prior to installing the EK.
Going to send both kits back to JL, but I've never had 2 DOA's before.....what gives Samsung???
