Can anyone give me some good advice on which TV they prefer between the two? Right now what is keeping me on the fence is that the Sony has excellenct input lag (20ms) versus the Samsung (43ms), but the Samsung I can get in 60" instead of 55". Can anyone with the F7100 comment on its video game performance?
Thanks in advance.
I have the W802A and am loving it. If i made a list of plus and minuses it would go like this.
Passive 3D: Less I strain and no ghosting/crosstalk.
Stellar video processing: The X-reality pro is still some of the best processing this side of Sharp's ELITE for an LED display.
Input lag (16-20ms in game mode).Gaming has been some of the best I have experienced on an LED/LCD. I am not talking about input lag, although that is good as well. I am talking about actual motion performance in game is stellar.
Black levels:For an IPS panel they are pretty great obviously can't compete with Pansonic plasmas, but solid with fantastic shadow detail.
Uniformity:At least my unit only has a faint glow in the lower left and upper right during transition screens, but not during normal viewing. Some of the best edge lit uniformity I have seen.
Black levels:Having owned and NX720 with VA panel I know what can be achieved with the right LCD.
Edge Dimming:Sony's doesn't offer the faux dimming found on the HX720/HX850. Instead offers frame dimming which offers a hardware/software solution that analyses the picture and adjust picture as needed. This of it as more of a very precise Dynamic contrast feature.
Picture Adjustment controls:While Sony offers more presets than you can shake a stick at(Option button on control/Scene Select), but they don't offer a CMS (color management). There seems to be a real heavy "Blue" push on this set that is hard to tweak out. This could be a side effect of the LG panel, because I noticed with my LM7600 as well.
I have tried Samsung displays and have issues with some minor non defeat-able noise cancelling and interpolation. I have noticed noise on the Samsung's that make even HD content through Blu-ray looked compressed and noisy. Samsung uses Vertical Alignment panels which in general offer better Black level and overall contrast than IPS, But are inherently slower response times without overdrive employed. I have tested the 46" F7100 and F8000 at Best Buy with my PS3. I didn't notice the lag as much as I noticed overdrive (color/black) trailing with gaming content. I started with Deadspace which is fantastic stress test for any display and all the dark passageways of the USG Ishimura exhibited black trailing in the shadowy areas. Thinking maybe with the it being locked at 30HZ(fps) maybe the set was over compensating for it, so I tried Rage which is 60HZ(fps). It didn't seem to make a difference either way trailing was apparent in both cases. I noticed little to none with film content, but as a gamer it is distracting.
Well that may have been a little more technical than you wanted, but I hope that helped?
