What would you really be using the remote for anyway on the TV. On/off and to switch inputs. That's it if you have a surround, cable box and blue ray.

Well, I'm picking mine up tomorrow so we shall see what happens with it and my "harmony 890". All I know is I can almost point that remote at the floor and it controls my current vizio 60" great. Fingers crossed.

Another review and working well with an older harmony remote. Maybe the older harmony's work better?

http://blog.arogan.com/2013/07/vizio-m801d-a3-80-razor-led-smart-tv-w.html?m=1

A snippet:

"- My view distance is 12 ft.
- The remote is a bit crap and found it lackluster in responsiveness. Not a big deal because once I programmed it into my logitech harmony 550 remote it worked just fine and significantly better than the original remote. Just use model M551d-A2R since the m801d actually isn't in the database yet. The remotes are the same. I love the harmony 550 which I think is a lot better and more capable than a lot of the newer harmony remotes. Too bad they don't make them anymore. They can still be found on ebay though for typically less than $40."

is this tv better then the sharp 80le844
I bought the 844 from cosco about a month ago but im just not too crazy about the picture. i tried calibrating it using settings that I found on this website but there is just something about the picture that is not making me happy. I was thinking about returning it and getting the 80 inch vizio thats on sale this week. I just dont want to make a mistake and then have the vizio be worse or the same.

The one thing i really like about the vizio is that really thin bezel.

What don't you like about the picture.
I'll be trying some new settings on mine tonight see if it helps.
The way it is now, if someone is wearing a dark suit it almost looks like the suit is ....... electric.
If that makes any sense.

Funny, I just heard an advertisement on the radio.
They were talking about different TV's (40", 50") and the great pictures they have.
Then they said........ But if you just want bigger go with the Sharp 70".
What did they mean by that, the bigger screens don't have as good of picture?

It's hard to explain but when watching tv (mostly sports) the picture doesn't seem "CRISP" colors like red are just dark red orange doesn't seem like orange more towards a mixture of brown and orange. Screen seems dark and then when I try to make it brighter it seems like something else goes wrong. Do you have a 844? Or a vizio? If you have a 844 can you send me your calibration settings so I can try them out

Buy the vizio while you have the sharp still at your house. Compare them, then return the one you don't want smile.gif I'm getting the vizio today. Not that this matters, but at my costco they have the sharp 844u and vizio right beside each other. The two employees that set up all the tv's prefer the vizio over the sharp. I did compate them closely and the pictutres look nice on both and the vizio had more clarity it seemed, but again, this is store settings, which I didn't mess with, so grain of salt. The main thing I did notice was that the "side viewing angles" on the vizio were much better and in my setup that is important, plus the passivermovie theatre glasses, and the edge to edge glass display is a bonus.

You have to be sitting further away with a bigger screen for it to look as clear. With any tv that gets bigger. So, if you are in best buy standing in front of a 55" tv of the same brand, and then a 80" of the same brand, the 55" will automatically be much clearer. Most don't not do this and think the bigger isn't as clear, again, you need to step back. For an 80" you need to be back around 13 feet and it will look much better, since the pixels are bigger, you need to be back further. The people on the radio probably never stepped back smile.gif

Used these settings last night.
Picture was a little different mostly pretty good, but the blacks still not good.
Maybe I'm being too picky.

Will mess with it more over the weekend.

Got it mounted. This thing looks sweet. Replaced my 60" vizio plasma.
Just need to hook up the bias lighting behind it again, stay tuned for more pics and impressions.

One issue. I need to get more "tilt". When seated in the couch the 3D is a little blurry and has slight doubling. If I start to sit up it gets perfectly clear. I know this is an issue with passive 3d if you are more than 20 degrees below the TV. I have to figure out a way to get more tilt. It's already on a tilt mount, but not enough tilt. Any ideas?

Yes, the remote is kind of finicky and harmony 890 definitely gives more range. I can't use the factory remote because I'm so used to the harmony tilt sensor which lights up the remote as soon as you move it. Comes in handy when dark.

Could you shim the mount out a bit at the top?
Or a mount with more tilt adjustment?

I really haven't had a problem with the remote.
But never had a really good remote, so nothing to compare it to.

Yea, those are options I'm considering... I didn't expect to be this blown away with the 3d, but on an 80" screen it's just awesome, except having to stand up to make it crystal clear frown.gif

My current mount gives 20 degrees of tilt. I'm going to need something more. It's perfect for regular viewing and picture is great, it's just for 3d that I need it tilted.

I finally have my set all up and working in the first 200 hours of use before I use CalMan 5 to properly calibrate, but I like it so far more than when I saw it a CES and more than when I saw it side by side next to the Sharp.

Hosting a Horrror movie night at my place next week... Any suggestion on the the movie, I am thinking Sinister or Insidious. Let me know of other big scares.

I'm going to be purchasing the Vizio 80" (M018D). I really want to buy this week, but at this point do you think I'd be foolish not to wait for Black Friday in case it goes on sale? Do TVs this large ever go on sale for Black Friday?

I bought one because Costco and Sam's Club both have it for $3300 with free delivery. Mine is being delivered next week. I used Discover partially because if there's a price drop in 90 days, they'll match it. Be aware though, there are two versions of the same set. A3 with four glasses and A3R with eight glasses. That's the only difference, but I'm guessing you wouldn't get a price match if the model number is slightly different.

Amazon Prime $3288 (No tax and free and free shipping). Pretty sure it was my price match guaranty request to Amazon that lowered the previous price, Lol wink.gif Got mine a few days ago and putting time on it before making a review. Initial impression is that Blu-ray movies are awesome but the "verdict is still not in" on TV programming (Cox Cable HDTV feed). Seems not all HDTV channels and shows are created equal when watched on a screen this large. Obviously, anything less than a perfect signal/source is definitely noticeable on the larger screen. I'm still looking for a professional review by an established magazine or web site. Appreciate everyone's comments on this thread!

What is a good 3D DVD/BR disc to test to show off on this HDTV, its 3D glasses, and a new Sony BR player for newbies? Too bad my Avatar BR CE, I got from last year's Christmas exchange/White Elephant, didn't include 3D. frown.gif

My cable box remote (Verizon Fios) controls my tv on/off and my sound goes through my Onkyo 7.2 system. So I've never had an issue with the TV IR....just saying...consolidate your controllers to reduce coffee table clutter:)

Isn't it true that the only time you ever really benefitted
from anything is when you said YES instead of NO??[[[

Pacific Rim 3D is simply awesome. I streamed it 1080P blu-ray rip. And 2d is stellar as well.
