Now this is the kicker. The non 3D shown on the site is 200 bucks more. If you don't like 3D, you would like saving money, and just buy the 3D set and not use the 3D.

Interesting. IIRC, non-3D model came out after 3D model. Maybe 3D model isn't a hot seller like non-3D? [shrugs]

I am wondering that myself. Especially since the 3D is just an additional feature compared to the 2D version and one that I think is well worth it. The Godzilla 3D blu ray is coming and I can't wait to watch it in my M80!

I agree.

The only thing I can think of is that people were not touching the non 3D because it cost more, esp when the 3D was setting right next to it in the listing 200 bucks cheaper.

Still makes no sense why the non 3D 80 would cost more.

Actually there is no 80 inch 2014 model. That model is a non 3D tv from 2013, hence the confusion.

The non 3D is the same model they were selling in Canada and elsewhere last year when they sold the 3D one here. And while the MSRP is $200 more than the 3D one has been selling for, it is $500 less than the MSRP of the 3D one. Since it is the new year's model (theoretically) it just hasn't been discounted as much as the older 3D one. By next spring (or sooner) you'll probably be able to get the non-3D model for $2,500 or less.

The non 3D model was never sold in 2013. It was announced at CES and sold in 2014. Vizio regards it as the 2014 M series 80 inch TV. Consumers are free to classify it however they wish (1492? Maybe Columbus discovered it.)

They were selling a non-3D model last year in some non-US markets. So while they have labeled this a new TV, it is no physical evidence (that I have seen or heard of so far) that it isn't a re-badge of that model. In fact, when I received my 3D model the accessories box came without any glasses and the instructions were for a slightly different model # that made no reference to 3D. But the TV itself had the proper model # and did do 3D. When I called Vizio and read them the model # of the accessory box they said I got the box for a non-US model by mistake but said it otherwise was the same and shipped the glasses out separately.

I have no seen any place in Canada even speak of the 80's Vizio's.

I actually had to travel 1200 miles into the USA to get one.

I was just relaying what the Vizio rep said. I was making casual conversation while he processed the shipment of the missing 3D glasses and asked where they sold the model version that didn't have the 3D and he said he thought Canada but maybe he was just guessing…

This was all over 3 months ago.

I think he did not know the correct answer. The research I put into the TV I came up with was NON 3D newest model and 3D was last years model. Hence the price drop on the 3D version the NON 3D.

There is no doubt that Vizio branded a new model that didn't have 3D and dropped the street price of the older 3D model.

The issue is whether that was truly a new model or a re-badge. What is your reason to know they didn't re-badge existing tech? I had assumed what you are saying until myself I received the TV with the other accessory box, with a TV that had a manufacture date that precedes the known launch of the latest non-3D model here, and was told by them it was a box for non-US. Perhaps they were wrong and I got a box intended for the newer US model that happened to be boxed up before the launch of the new version.

Doesn't really matter to me either way as the result now is the same. There's a non-3D version being sold as the newer model in the US that is fundamentally the same as the older model minus the 3D feature. The MSRP of the newer model is lower than the MSRP of the older model but the street price is higher right now since it's been pretty much universally discounted $800 or more.

Sorry, no offense. This seemed to be a re-eruption of a big kerfuffle earlier this year in which a number of members adamantly insisted that the M801i being sold early this year was not the M801i announced at the 2014 CES and that there would definitely be a different M801i released this year that would be FALD. There were members who wanted an 80" who were delaying purchasing one of the 80" edge-lit sets because they were assured that there would definitely be an 80" FALD. Just didn't want that to take off again.

I was one of those waiting for the FALD LED which never came, there was great reviews for the 3D version and I needed a TV now so I went with the A3.

Fair enough

I still am wondering if I should get the 80 3D set even tho it is edge lit. It is still available, and people seem to like it. I know the P from 2014 is ready to hit, but it annoys me that it has no 3D and is not 80, and the family loves 3D.

My family and I like ours a lot. We mostly watch 2D but when we watch a 3D movie, it's an occasion and since the glasses are cheap, we have plenty for the whole clan.

The TV. I've been on the fence for some time now.
Now I'm trying to decide between the P 70" and this one.

Seating distance is about 13' in a fairly bright room

I have NO uniformity issues at all, when the TV starts up I do have 4 bright corners....but then seconds later it disappears. I came from LG Plasma's that I had for the last 7 years I tell you I was really worried. This set has nice levels of black and out of the box I was impressed without much tweaking.

I sit 11-12 feet from the TV wall mounted. I like it....do not need to use my glasses.

I do wish Vizio had a 85 or 90 incher though....would love to fill out the rest of the wall.

I stay away from anything Samsung when it comes to TV/Monitors. Every one of my Samsung devices crapped out, I am very biased against them. My last Samsung TV was just replaced with a Sony under an extended warranty I ended up getting.

So what happened to the full array 2014 80" announced at CES? That one was not going to have 3D which made some people angry and some happy here. Was that never released?
