Question

I currently have a 60" 1080p 600Hz Plasma by LG. Is it worth it for me to even consider any 80" priced under $5k? Why? Which model(s)? Please be very specific? I want to go larger but I am used to the superb PQ I now get including pure blacks! I mostly watch HD content: Live, Sports, Movies and Gaming. Ambient lighting is not an issue.

Thanks in advance!

*edit* What is the main difference between this and the M801i-A3???

I just want to educate myself on the best possible option in an 80" for the most reasonable cost? $3k is my target.

I'm in a similar boat as you, I just ordered the 80" and from what I gather the only difference is 3D between the two units.

What LG are you coming from and is it a light controlled room or family room?

I'm coming from the Panasonic 800 series plasma of 2008ish and although I'm still satisfied with it's picture I was looking for something larger.
Wish I had my set for a while so I can give you some more detail but I've been looking for a while and hope I made a good choice.

I've got a Panny VT30 and the M801D and the VT30 has better PQ, less ghosting, flashlighting, deeper blacks, great viewing angles and I can use it as a heat source in the winter. That said, I still watch sports and play games on the M801D. The differences are subtle and I can turn my brain off pretty easily to not care. You've got to see them side by side to determine if you can do the same.

There's another thread where a member reviewed an extensive list of available 80"+ LCDs and finally decided on a set that was around $10K. I'll post the link when I get home if you don't find it first.

PZ950 (LG's flagship at the time) and I have an entirely new one as it was replaced under warranty @ 6 months ago. The PQ is fantastic! It is in a relatively shaded but not dark. It's entirely glass obviously so I don't have reflection concerns.
Also while we're discussing "best options", what are you guys thoughts on this: http://www.vizio.com/p-series

Only a 70" but I am really liking that it's 4k UHD and Full Array LED.

I've seen the p series and they look fine but with 1080 material not really better than my M801d. Yes, there could be some confirmation bias going on, but I really do like the pq I'm getting and I really like the extra 10 inches. Don't watch 3d very often, but it's a nice special occasion.

My 80" will be delivered this afternoon.
Temps will be in the 48-50° F range during delivery window.
What's the best procedure for unpacking/checking/turning it on?
Not super cold temps but want to make sure I check it correctly.
Thanks

Thanks! That extra 10in is hard to over look. But coming from plasma for the past few years, just don't want to be like, WTF have I done???
How have your blacks been? Ghosting? Fast moving sports?

This is beyond disconcerting!
I may need to remove this TV from my very short list...

Hello all I was just on Sams club website and they have the non 3d version on this TV for 1998 in club they also have the 70' p series for the same price....I just bought the 60" p for my bedroom which i love and I want to replace my Living room TV (7 year old pioneer plasma). How are the black levels for this TV, I'm really stuck between screen size vs future proofing (4k).

lol I was just coming here to tell everyone about this deal.

No such thing as future proofing....I would go with the 80 and wait until the dust settles on the 4K/8K scene.

For an LED TV i am pleasantly surprised by the blacks on my TV. I did come from an 60 inch Plasma that was 3 years old.

I have it set on "low" for film and "medium" for games. I found with it off there was far too much judder.
