But none to the degree I'm seeing.

Still, the days of me spending $3,000+ on a television are gone. I knew when plasma went off the map we would suffer for awhile so I'll prolly just make do and ignore the faults the best I can.

Oh well.

Well, I do consider myself an enthusiast, and not a noob, and I have typically done a lot of research into panels, settings, etc. I went from a 58" Samsung plasma (I love and greatly prefer plasma, but can't get the bigger size I want) to the 70" Sharp (really worked to dial the settings, and was quite happy with it) to this Vizio (BIGGER is better!!). That said, I tend to take a general view of the PQ, and do my own "eyeball test"...meaning, does it look good to ME? And man, it sure does...!! And I am keeping an eye out for any obvious flaws, issues, etc, but nothing is jumping out at me. It...just...looks...good!!

And I am actually liking the "Calibrated Dark" setting, even though I know it has extra processing. And my wife LOVES it...can't believe the sharpness and pop...she prefers it over the more "cinema-like" settings that I strive for (that I think is always the goal here, in the forums).

And the SIZE!! I am THRILLED with this thing!!

Anyway, my .02 worth...YMMV...

Everyone is different. As I said, the image is largely very good- especially for sports and other programming. It just falls down a bit with dark images and off axis viewing- like some others of its tech-ilk and price range.

It's great that it's 80 inches and, as I said, that alone makes it very difficult to step down in size, but my criticisms of it are not new and it's simply a matter as to whether they're livable for a particular user.

My wife is hardly picky and when she witnessed the color shift simply moving a couple feet either direction she laughed and called it "goofy". FWIW.

James

Actual phone call (see pic to left):

Tech (responding to laughter): "I'm sorry sir, did I miss something?"

Me: "Yeah, a case of Diet Mountain Dew walking across my living room."

PlayNice, (I deleted my original post)

I actually think I got your cal settings figured out after rummaging through the threads again this morning. I do have one question. As far as the standard settings go (color, contrast, etc.) I bought the WOW disk and I'm getting numbers way different than yours, but I also don't have that keen calibration eye especially when trying to cal the saturation. It's hard for me to see any difference from 0-100. Are these typically really different Tv to Tv?

So far it's great. I haven't seen any issues with it. Football games are amazing. I was planning on taking it back if a 70" goes on sale, but the wife said she wants me to keep it. I'll take it, lol.

Sadly, no. It was due Friday but there was a delay on Sams part. But, after expressing my disappointment, they knocked off an additional $100! Looks like it will be here Tuesday.

To all you who got in on this Sams or Costco deal, ask of satisfied/impressed thus far?

Absolutely love mine. The size is truly immersive...bigger really is better with regard to HDTV.

PQ is fantastic...I have zero issues. Watched our first BD last night, and I can't imagine it being any better!!

Now watching the Bears-Cowboys game with the preset "Calibrated Dark" setting, and it is stunning. I mean, absolutely STUNNING. I can see the fricking blades of grass on the field!! Yes, I'm aware there is some additional processing going on, but damn, it looks good!!

I got the Costco deal of $1,999, which makes it even better! BTW, I'm coming from a 70" Sharp panel, which I loved...just wanted bigger, and I'd always admired the Vizio in Costco. It has NOT disappointed!

Again, I'm not over analyzing anything; I'm just judging what I see. And it is awesome!!

I just did the same last week. Picked mine up from Sams Club. Same model # for 1998.0. I also just swapped out from a 70" Sharp. Very satisfied with this 80"

Man these latest several comments have me absolutely PUMPED!!!!
Two of you coming from 70" and the size difference is that noticeable? So me coming from my 60" to the 80" is gonna be EPIC!

What about those of you specifically who got on the deal from Sams Club like me... Have you received your TV? How long did it take to get to you from order date? Your location??

I wanted to ask for some opinions. 80inch m-model vizio or 70inch 4k p-series. They are both $2000. I am debating which one to get.

Read the last 2 pages of this thread.

I vote for the 80 due to no content in the pipeline.

This!

If you google: 4k gimmick, you will find some intuitive and common sense info.
I have zero plans sitting closer than 10ft from my TV. The general consensus is that unless you are within @ 6ft feet of your TV, your eyes will NOT know the difference! Plus the content ain't nowhere to be seen anyone soon. #marketinghype

I did just that... Measured my current 60" and the 80" is also 20" longer not just diagonally! That is a significant difference! My current TV Stand is 80" long. This Vizio is going to fill it up so nicely.

I jumped on the Sam's deal...ok maybe at first I procrastinated...it went out of stock....so I kicked myself...then it appeared back in stock; so I ordered one on November 25th; they delivered it last Friday, December 5th to the northern Chicago suburbs.

As I mentioned in the other thread - I spent the weekend with ups and downs with this TV. Initially turning it on with the factory preset was extremely disappointing to say the least - even my 17 year old daughter asked me what as wrong with the new TV as compared to the 8 year old DLP....not good.

Playing with the settings I had intended to use (and referenced above) made a world of difference; but I have to admit I am still not sold. Football and news desk shots look fantastic; but everything else seems to have this slight white haze that prevents the picture from popping.

Anyone else see the slight haze or have any suggestions??

My knee jerk reaction is to get a replacement ASAP. I've had this set since summer '13 and haven't noticed any blooming or haze as you described. Odd that it isn't evident on football and news tho. Maybe pop in a calibration disc run through basic setup if you haven't done so yet.

Odd that some content looks good; other stuff doesn't...

No issues here, after one week. I'm currently using the settings above, and Monday Night Football looks fantastic! Though my wife said, "The picture looks a bit washed out compared to before." I said, "Honey, that's what grass looks like in Green Bay in December!" ;-)

Ladies and Gentlemen... We have "Delivery Confirmation" for tomorrow afternoon! I ordered a Disney WOW blu ray calibration disc from Amazon for $13. Better than nothing.

So Dakn2, my scenario is very similar to yours in that initially I let the first round of $1998 pricing slip away. And then I was second guessing that decision. It really is a 'want more than a need'. But damn... 80"!!! So I was on Sams.com early the next day refreshing the sire randomly and BAM... it reappeared! I didn't hesitate this time around. I was initially given a date of last Friday like you, but didn't happen. I'm in the Dallas area FYI. I called and expressed my displeasure and was offered a max of $100 credit. That too is better than nothing.
So I have been scouring and reading reviews all over the web for this TV and I'd say 90% of it is positive. So I am really hoping it, at the least has not been damaged during transit. After all, it is coming off of one truck to another and who knows how many hands move it???
So how was your (and anyone else) delivery experience? I remember how large my 60" TV box was. I bet this is like a piece of sheet rock coming thru the door!
I will post up pics of mine and how/where it sits tomorrow...

I had Costco White Glove delivery, and all was quick and well. I had them leave it leaning in the base part of the package, since I was hanging it on the wall later that afternoon. It's HEAVY!!

According to the description: The entire box is like 160lbs and then the TV itself is like 140lbs. Damn... 20lbs of packaging LOL!
So good thing is, I have a dining table that I'm gonna lie a blanket over so I can attach the base that attaches to the stand.

So good thing is, I have a dining table that I'm gonna lie a blanket over so I can attach the base that attaches to the stand.
We used a twin day bed mattress on the floor, attached the stand, slid it to the Standout Designs Entertainment Center and hoisted it in place.

We'll see if it's livable. The problem here is when you jump to 80 inches it's tough to give up that real estate for improved quality.

I can mess with the backlight some more but it doesn't seem to help.

Some things- even many or most- look great- some are just comically bad.

Kinda sad.

How much light bleeding from the edges would be considered acceptable? I just got my M801i-A3 last week and was a little disappointed with how much my bleeding my TV has. This is my first LCD TV since my past ones have been tubes, projectors, or plama. I haven't messed with any of the settings yet and this picture below was from the default "Game" setting. (the "game" setting seemed to be the only default setting that did not give the "soap opera" effect, so that is why I choose that until I have time to mess with the calibration). I did noticed with smart dimming the bleeding would "go away"on dark scenes, however I read most prefer to have that setting off.
