I have one of these coming and I couldn't find a dedicated owners thread for it. I know there is a combined thread for the M series, but, I am not interested in the smaller sizes (that's what she said.)

Can anyone with one of these comment on the 3-D games/movie performance?

Well, this 80" LCD panel is sourced from Sharp, so you can expect similar performance as the Sharp 844/757/857 line of 80" HDTVs insofar as contrast, brightness, colors and sharpness are concerned, but i imagine that Vizio uses a different video processing chip than Sharp's proprietary scaler.
On the other hand i see some of these 80" Sharp models selling online for as low as $3,500.00, so why all the excitement about this model from Vizio which has a msrp of $4,000.00 ? Are they to be found at significantly less pricing than Sharp's line of 80" HDTVs ?
Sound&Vision magazine tested one of those Sharp 80" models some months ago and the review can be found at their website, but i don't think you're going to enjoy what the reviewer had to say about the unit; On the other hand, the AVS threads on these various Sharp 80" HDTVs have many/many satisfied owners, just make sure it is delivered or carried home safely and properly.
I would add : buy from a local retailer that offers hassle-free exchanges and returns thus avoiding huge shipping charges, in case your unit displays unsatisfactory levels of "edge light bleeding", "banding", very poor white field and black field uniformity, too many obvious dead pixels, etc.
Every time i go to my local Best Buy store i find myself standing in front of their Sharp 80" display model completely mesmerized by that huge, flat video display with such amazing detail and, to my eyes, excellent black level, contrast and colors.
Let us know what you think of your unit once it is all set up and calibrated...

I posted about my problems with the youtube app in the other thread. That is the only problem i have come across. After i used WOW to calibrate my TV the picture just pops. On the 80 inch I have the sharpness set pretty low as artifacts appear after about 30 or so on most images. If you have a game system you will be happy with game mode as I cant notice any input lag and i play fps games. If you want i can post my setting if you are interested.

Well, I missed out on the Sharp 90" clearance sale last month. I actually already own the Sharp 80" LC-80LE632U. Although it is a bit black level-challenged, with the help of my Darby Darblet image processor it can really sing. I am just intrigued by the super slim bezel of the Vizio and the purported great passive 3D capabilities.

FYI, I got tracking on the set for next week arrival. Also, anyone needing extended TV warranty - a shout out for the Costco/Squaretrade one. $100 for three years after manufacturers. And, you don't have to be a member ($5 surcharge) or even buy the set from Costco.

Haven't messed around with 3d much (no 3d Blu Ray player). Me and the wife watched a few vids on youtube (while it worked).I don't remember the video but it was pretty cool cant compare it to movie theater 3-d as i have not watched a full 3-d movie since the 90's. I didn't get this set for 3-d its kinda like a bonus. Come November when ps4 comes out ill start getting 3-d movies

NitroDan's wife here smile.gif I bought this for my husband's birthday, and I hope he doesn't see this post before it arrives next week LOL.

I couldn't find much on this model anywhere either, so I'm glad someone else took the leap. My delivery tracking shows his has an expected delivery date of 7/18.

I bought his from Costco with the $200 off and the free shipping offer (@$3699). I already had the Costco Executive membership, so I'll get the 2% rewards back, and also bought the 3 year $99 Square Trade warranty. So with the 1 year manufacturers warranty and the automatically included free second year by Costco, we will have 5 years of warranty coverage.

We have a Sharp 60" in the den/office ("my" TV lol) that was recently replaced by hhgregg's extended warranty, and I hope the Square Trade warranty works as smoothly as that went if we have any problems with this Vizio..

My husband now watches in the living room on an older 50" but has always wanted a "huge TV". I hope I didn't make a big mistake getting this in a Vizio. I'll have to tell him to be careful what you wish for, you just might get it LOL

Please post your opinion when yours arrives, and I'll have him do the same. And thanks for starting this thread!

Nitrodan you have a private message! JK smile.gif

My ETA is 7/18 too (leave my damn truck alone!smile.gif)

Here's a strategy for other potential buyers of this set:

Call Amazon and have them match Costco's sale price (cheapest I've seen).
(Don't rely on their post purchase 'price guarantee' - some people have been 'fine printed’ out of it.) This will get you the best tax free/free shipping price anywhere (plus, two-day shipping for prime members.) Then, get the Costco/Square 3 year extended warranty for $105.00.

Let me know if this works (I'll be waiting at the bar with an empty pitcher of beer smile.gif.

If you buy the TV from Amazon and the Squaretrade warranty from Costco, there is the potential for a gap in warranty coverage. The Squaretrade warranty from Costco indicates in starts after BOTH the manufacturer's warranty AND the extra year from Costco. If, however, you buy the TV from Amazon, you don't have that second year of coverage. What happens if you have a problem in year two?

Amazon will ship you a Rosary and a case of Wild Turkey to get you through year two.wink.gif

My 80" arrives tomorrow (a "little" excited!) Another Square Trade warranty option is directly through Vizio. I bought a 5-year from them for $149. (And I didn't buy the TV from them!)

Consider this a 'pre bugging' to post impressions as soon as you can.

Sorry for the delay! Work hasn't left me much time this week. First impression? I heard choirs. Or angels. Or both! Big and beautiful. I hope to get it on the wall mount this evening and then once I get the living room reassembled, I'll start diving in over the next days.

Just wanted to jump back in and say that ours was delivered about 3 pm this afternoon, and since about 3:01 my husband has been plunked down in his recliner in front of it just loving life LOL. (and he's still there 8+ hours later)

Delivery went great. He hasn't "adjusted" anything yet, but right out of the box we are both impressed with the picture quality, sound and ease of use. Even the remote (which some posters didn't like) seems OK to us.

He can chime in with what mods he makes after he plays with it, but so far he's really, really happy with it, and I'm glad I bought it. smile.gif

This is known as FPZS or 'Flat Panel Zombie Syndrome'. The only way to stop a FPZ is to slap them in the head and tell them to take out the trash.

The Vizio M801D-A3 80" Razor LED Smart TV w/ Theater 3D is 240hz backlit. The Sharp Smart HDTV LC80C6500U AQUOS 80" Class 1080p is 120Hz and Edge Lit LED.
Seems the Vizio has the advantage in that it also comes with 4 3D glasses as opposed to the Sharp only coming with 2.
Both are the same price at Costco as I've been eyeballing them too! biggrin.gif
