Not that I've seen, but Costco sells TV warranties for $89 for TV's greater than $1000. TV's can be purchased at any authorized retailer. From Costco's website, search for Squaretrade.

Except, of course, in paranoid delusions for those that believe.

I don't think there is a 2014 model -- they just continued selling the 2013 model. They have no competition in this size.

There was a change to the remote. There is a "manual" button that when pressed displays the manual for the tv. The tv I had last year had a physical manual. The exterior design is the same but i get the feeling that this tv is updated.

Here is the link for Costco's warranty. I just don't know that I'd trust this expensive a TV with a cheap warranty.

I went back to the Magnolia store to check it out. Is the picture on this set a little soft?

I was just thinking, for the price of this 90" unit, for just a little more cash a person could buy the closeout LG 4K 84LM9600 , boy is this 90" about to tank in price , good for end users, bad for Sharp.

HDMI not working

Lost the HDMI input.
Had it last night, this morning no picture.
OMG. Changing inputs didn't help.
Called Sharp and they walked me through a factory reset.
I was surprised but it worked.
All good now but it made me verrry nervous.
Even thinking about an extended warranty

Does this have 4:4:4 support?

I need a TV around this size with 4:4:4 support for as little money as possible for a school classroom.

Sharp's response: "Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding the Sharp AQUOS LC90LE657U. We wanted to contact you back to let you know that the 4:4:4 chroma is only supported on our 4K models."

Has anyone had problems with this panel "flashing"? Mine has been flashing black screens in between displaying content, and it only seems to be getting worse. This happens on any HDMI input (haven't tried anything else), and nothing that I have tried seems to make any difference. I have tried the hard reset (plugging in power while holding the power button) but it doesn't seem to do anything. I guess my next call is to Sharp? It is still under warranty but replacing a 90" panel is going to be a pain, to say the least. Anyway--if anyone has a similar experience, please let me know.

Mine seems to be doing this as well. It just goes black for a second and then re-engages the picture and displays the HDMI in the upper right corner. Did you find a fix for this yet?

I was thinking it had something to do with my Denon receiver video output. Are you running a receiver?

I don't have this panel but here's a couple of thoughts:

Have you tried to reseat the HDMI cables and/or swap them for different ones?
Have you tried bypassing the AVR and going directly to the TV?

It might help you narrow down where the issue lies.

long time users - would you buy it again?

Hi,

Open questions to all purchasers...

Are you happy with the 90" TV and would you buy it again?

Any lessons learned to share?

Still on the fence about getting this one vs waiting for 4K model.

Thx

My panel failed on this TV. Waiting to hear the options they'll offer for replacement. Sounds like a new TV is likely or a payment for depreciated value. Not liking how I'm feeling about this purchase now.

Err, crap, as I was about to buy one. My RP DLP just started showing dead pixels and I was about to go the full monty on a 90" beast...

Not sure I'd do it. I'm likely going with 85" Samsung now. Or maybe 80" Vizio. Or check out Sony. Gonna have to post in "help me pick a TV" thread. Gonna be hard to go smaller than 85" after being accustomed to 90".

I'm in the market too for a "big" screen TV. I was initially looking at the 90" being sold at Costco but upon reading this thread I may have to look elsewhere. I'd be interested to know which one you got to replace it. I could go as low as an 80" size though.

Update on resolving my issue with a dead 90" Sharp 657:

Sharp offered me a new replacement or a check for $6995. I took the check as the reason they couldn't fix it was because they no longer make the part it needs. Now I'm struggling to choose a new TV. I could get a 85" Samsung JU7100 for $9,000 or drop to the 80" Vizio M Class for $3,700 or go for more of a flagship 75-79" Sony or Samsung for $8,000-$9,000.

My gut is telling me to go with the 85" edge lit Samsung JU7100 mostly because it's the closest to the 90" TV I'm accustomed to. Most people in the know are recommending a flagship that's about 12-15" less for the same price. My head tells me that may be smart. Anyone else have an opinion? We don't NEED a TV right now but would like to get it done pretty darn soon. I know waiting is a good idea if possible but the beginning of college football season is calling

Did they tell which part it is/was? In your place I would have taken the money too then.

Personally, I would go with the 85, especially as Sharp has just taken a large part of the sting out of that tail. I would join you, but I don't have 10 large to drop on anew TV...

On a panel that size i would never, ever, go with edge lit LEDs as its limitations become much more obvious; It has to be FALD, preferably with the best implementation of the technology currently available at reasonable price.
If i were in your shoes i would either wait for the upcoming release of the Vizio 2015 P-Series in 80" size (hopefully!) or, if you are in a rush, find a local Vizio dealer that has the 80" 2015 M-Series and accepts full returns/no questions asked, bring the set home, test it with blu ray test disc to ascertain the panel is fully up to specs and then make your final decision.
And you would still have over $3K to use to improve your HT system with a new AVR, speakers, subwoofer, etc.
You could also consider taking that same careful route by going to Costco and picking up that JVC 85" UHDTV that has 64 zones FALD and is currently selling for just $6K.
Just my two cents worth of pragmatism...

Hi guys ... thanks for the input!

I ended up ordering the 85" Samsung JU7100 mostly because I wanted something as close to 90" as possible. I also figured it has to be a better TV than this Sharp and I didn't hate the picture on the Sharp ... basically both decisions have been all about size I suppose. Kind of wishing I'd have just dropped down to 80" Vizio M just to pocket the money and because I plan on having problems with any TV I buy at this size ... if that makes any sense. Looks like a few weeks before I will receive my TV as they're on order currently.

The problem part is the "T con board" ... does that sound right? Anyone have any recommendations for what I should do with the old TV? Maybe a local TV shop would buy it and try and find a replacement part from another TV?

So I just pulled the trigger on one of these. It's coming from NV and I got it for a really good price. I can't wait and the wife is going to have kittens...

Anyone have any tips about calibrating one? Or best output type to keep it on in order to cut down on the lag?

Question accessing 'advanced' picture settings in 3D mode?

I know this is an old thread but I just got offered what I think is a good deal on the Sharp-LC-90LE657U here in Canada. I was going to go with a projector and a 100" screen but for a bit more I can get this 90" panel. I was pretty impressed with the 2d mode, without doing much tweaking in the store but in 3D mode, the 'advanced; settings are greyed out. I want to turn off the 'smooth motion' in 3d mode. Can this only be done in service mode?

Thanks!

I bought a 90le657 on Thanksgiving 2013 and it broke Thanksgiving 2015. I watch it maybe 5 hours per week so it has about 500-600 hours on it. Repairman thought it was the motherboard and put in a new one only to discover that it is a problem with the edge lighting. Can't fix it because the lighting is part of the screen. Called Sharp and they no long make the lighting/screen in the US and wont ship one from overseas. Just bought myself a $7000 anchor.
The repairman said sharp has so many problems with the motherboards. Even BestBuy here in Houston carries only to Sharp models.
I researched this tv for 6 months and was hesitant because I wanted a 90". To be fair I'm still waiting to hear back from Sharp but I'm sure I'm screwed.
Will update when I hear from Sharp.

Edge lighting? The 657u is a full array backlit panel. Sounds like they need to send a different service guy!
