We don't have an HD receiver, but picture quality OK with our new flat screen. Using both remotes because we can't get the universal programmed for the direct tv channels. HELP

I just purchased a Sammy Smart last week and I believe the channel selection is RF based, not IR, so a typical universal remote won't work.

(NOTE: As I said, I just got the thing and I might be completely wrong. I've not been able to train the the Vizio soundbar I also purchased to respond to the Sammy remote)

Good luck!

The Samsung smart TV I bought had a IR remote that you place IN FRONT of the device to control. The signal goes from the remote to the TV and the TV sends the correct IR signals to the devices, but they have to be setup so the IR transmitter from the TV gets to the devices to be controlled.
