I have a lg 55lv4400.

I play video games the most, then tv and movies...(probably 60\40).

Does my TV suck?

I'm finishing my basement as an entertainment room...and with my mind mostly on speaker set up, I've kinda neglected the tv.

So...how does my TV stack up to similarly priced models...and should i sell it and get something else (not opposed to plasma)...?

Only you can answer that, if you are not happy with your gaming experience and tv picture quality than upgrade. Obviously there are better panels out there.

You game and its in the basement? Plasma all the way. This set here: http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-VIERA-TC-P50U50-50-Inch-Plasma/dp/B00752VLRC Is one of the fastest tv's you can buy as far as input lag. The picture quality is the same as the new S60 plasma, and it will blow away any LCD set you can buy as far as picture quality.

Stay far away from plasmas for games.

Almost all console games run at 30fps or lower and they flicker and judder like crazy, 60fps games don't have this issue.

However there are only a few games that run at 60fps on consoles.

As a gamer who owns both LCD and Plasma I can say without a doubt, Plasma > LCD for gaming any day. The only reason you would want an LCD is if you want a super bright picture. You have no idea what you are talking about. Current consoles (and im sure future ones) do not allow you to output at 1080p30 so console games at 30fps still run at 60fps as they get frame double, thus no flicker. Now if you hook it up to a computer and feed the tv 1080p 30hz then yes it will flicker badly. The talk about judder is also ridiculous. How are peopling going to complain about Plasma juddering on 30fps games when LCD's are 10x worse? Ive gamed on plasmas since 2007 (all panasonic) with no problems. Not to mention, my $700 TC-P50U50 has much better picture quality than my $2,200 w900a. Different display techs have different purposes, but for a basement tv your setup to take full advantage of the plasma tech.

Thanks for all the comments!

I'm thinking about moving to a 60" plasma.

One suggestion was a Panasonic ST60 - although my budget won't allow for $1,500 for a TV right now.

Could probably sell my LG for $600 and only be $900 out of pocket - but what other options are out there?

Hey I had originally suggested the Panasonic ST60, but the S60 is also a good choice. Any LG Samsung Panasonic full 1080p plasma will be fine for gaming in a basement. Make sure its not a model that claims 1080p but only refreshes say 900 lines in motion. Don't rush to buy a TV now, wait until Jan-April when they announce new models and clearance the old ones. You'll have your pick at many great models.

edit: Plasmas are not just to be hidden in basements, but you don't have to shop for one with glare reduction if that's where it will be.
