Hey there everyone, been subscribed to this thread for... well, forever, but I might pull the trigger on this TV in the very near future.
WhiteSands, your screen shots have been really awesome, thanks for posting them.
Anyways, have a few questions first.
1. How is motion blur for films/television? I'm not a big fan of the soap opera effect (for hockey I guess that'd be okay) but don't want a blurry mess, either. I'm coming from an old-school RPTV where there's virtually no blurring. Motion blur is very good for this set. SOE or soap opera effect can be taken care of using the Cnet noise filters off settings. I have no problems with motion blur when watching pro football games or ice hockey games.
2. Is the stand fairly easy to attach? And is reflection from the screen much of an issue? Can't wall mount it so it'll be going on a regular TV stand. This W850a set as many other 2013 sets use the very popular semi-matte screen. It lowers any reflections and still allows a great picture to pass though to the viewer. My TV stand is 59" wide and the TV hangs over about a inch or so on either side.
3. How is 3D with active glasses? Would be sitting about 10 feet away. And is active a no-go for my wife who wears prescription glasses? The four pair of 3D glasses works great. Sony's recommends 9 foot minimum viewing distance. I watch from 8 feet in my recliner. The 3D glasses work well with people that wear prescription glasses.
4. Should I wait for the successor, the 65W950B? It's got passive 3D, weighs a little less, seems to have the same features. On the other hand it seems like the 850A is a solid TV with very minuscule issues and at the moment, it's cheaper. A popular French reviewer tested the W950B and said the W850a set was superior in picture quality and also recommend as it's now lower price.
Thanks in advance for your time, everyone. If I can't respond for a few days it's because I'm working (hooray shift work). Have a good weekend for those of you who have real 9-5 jobs.
