I ended up taking it back since we had a van rental for the day. I feel like if I kept it, I would have buyer's remorse, and now that I've returned it, I'm questioning that decision. Damned if I do, damned if I don't I guess.

I'm going to keep on in my search for 1 of these 65" HD sony models. Someone on craigslist by me has a 950b for $1200. He says it is new in the box. I know some people hate on the 950b, but it's got the same rating on amazon as the 850a. To be continued...
I would have spent more time with the 930c, as 1 day really isn't enough time to get a good feel and dial in all the settings IMO. With that said, $1200 isn't bad for a brand new 65W950B. If you can negotiate closer to $1000 that would be great deal. I watched the price for a while last year and the lowest it ever went from an authorized dealer was around $1600.

It didnt make sense to me to spend $2000 on a TV and then not have it look as good as my 7 year old set for most of what I watch. That's why I returned the 930c. These 3 HD models are sony's higher end recent HD sets and have triluminos which I think adds a great deal to their PQ. Gaming is not a huge deal to me. I play some, but now that I have young kids, that has mostly gone by the wayside, especially 1st person shooters where that low lag really matters.

Any suggestions for high end 65" HD sets that are not 1 of the 3 I am looking for?
The Samsung UN65H7150 is also very good.

4K is a waste of money. Period. Oled is not a bad option. Certainly better than 4K.

I am using WhiteSands' excellent settings as well and am very happy. I am tempted by a lot of the crazy 4K deals, but I have zero desire or reason to upgrade, it'll be many years before 4K is mainstream and by that time there will be many new standards and time to upgrade everything.

I had one big scare last year - the tv would turn on but not show any picture, no matter what I tried. I was very close to getting it repaired by Sony. But leaving it unplugged for a couple days fixed that for some mysterious reason.

Those who use Whitesands settings, do most of you use the "Standard" , "Vivid" or "Custom" for day to day TV watching and video gaming?

So after returning the x930c, I bit on the used 850a listed on amazon for the not so cheap price of $1360 shipped. It was a 2014 manufacturing date has 2500 hours on it.

It arrived yesterday, and I am so happy with it! The PQ is top notch. Even the build quality is fantastic. Not that you often mess with the edges of the TV casing, but I love the diamond etched sides. It adds a feeling of sturdiness and build quality.

I can't wait to mess with this some more, but no chance I am returning this bad boy! I watched empire strikes back last night, and the space scenes were glorious. Vader's black helmet with light reflecting off of it looked as if it was real and right in front of me.

Soccer was beautiful.

I'm excited to pop modern warfare 2 back into my 360 and see if this super low input lag makes any difference while playing online. I actually think it might because I remember being much better at that game while playing on my parents' TV, so it was likely due to lower input lag on their TV than mine.

Thanks to this forum and to Whitesands for the input and advice!

I use standard almost all the time it seems spot on what do you use for everyday viewing and as far as 3D goes do you turn the glasses brightness up when viewing 3D

I appreciate WS's setting, however every time I apply them, and use standard mode, I notice a lot more "grainy" look with the out of focus background scenes on TV shows. I watched Seinfeld and Greys Anamony with my wife tonight, and when the background shots were out of focus, and focus was on a main character, I noticed a grainy look with the background. I find it hard to get use to. I am unsure what setting causes this.

This is from a 6-8 foot viewing distance

I have this tv and Whitesands settings applied. I guess I am not that sensitive to changes since I noticed some of the settings had been reverted and I never even noticed anything was missing.

Hey @WhiteSands can you send your settings my way please?

Also does anyone have experience with installing apps on their TV? I'm not sure this TV (W850a) is capable, but I know some Sony's allow installing or at least sideloading apps through the Android SDK or other methods. Links to forum threads appreciated. Thanks!

Can you explain what you mean settings had been reverted? Also, did you follow the settings with disabling items per CNET (which Whitesands mentions at the end of his settings). What are you using for daily viewing? Standard? Vivid? Custom?

These settings are more accurate and represent a more "realistic" picture. WS's are nice, but they have too much pop.

Thanks for sharing. Will try them out. Although first glance, not a fan of having 2 modes (lazy....). Rather just have 1 mode and forget about it. Maybe if I find time I can set something up on my logitech remote for night and day watching tv.

I tried your settings I think if you put it on warm 1 it makes a huge difference makes the colors more accurate for all those using white sands setting which I think are fantastic try switching the color temp from cop to warm 1 I honestly think that it will make you even more happy with this tv just when I thought this tv couldn't look any better once again switch the temp to warm 1 let me know what you guys think.

They are not my setting, I replied to the person who paid for a pro installer to come out and set up his TV.
Been trying out his setting, and impressed. As far as changing to Warm 1 on WS setting, i think it may help a little, but if you ask any professional out there, Cinema over General/Standard picture is always preferred

well worth $500.00 for pro installer. pro installer use photo research- 970 and Jkp production and stuff like that. he comes with lot of instrument.did you try day and night mode ? i am sure after calibration this tv will blow any 4k uhd out of the box compared next to each other. clarity is wow crystal clear. when he use his jkp disc he explain me the big pixel on the screen and he lower it that makes a huge difference on the screen. if you need more clarity of your screen please call any pro installer with photo research pr-970 or pr-670. forgot to mention that this tv use bigger color gamut out of box it means less color accuracy. pro installer will fix this as well by reducing color gamut to get more color and precise color i would call more natural color. using this my setting will not fix every thing. you got a have pro installer. good luck if you want the report after and before calibration i will be more than happy to email you.

Thank you
