This is only possible if you see on the Amazon site for this set, 'In Stock. Ships from and sold by Amazon.com'. The larger 65" screen looks much larger than the 55" screen on a panasonic plasma set this set replaced.

Have you found this to be true, if you're just not 100% pleased with the PQ or performance of the TV? It was always my impression that returns for anything other than defect required the purchaser to pay for the shipping.

That's true with most online dealers but not with Amazon. With Amazon you can call and tell them you don't like the set, or the picture and they will be happy to pick the set up and credit your account. That's within the 30 days after your set was shipped from their warehouse. Amazon is the only place I know that don't charge for the return freight if you not satisfied with your TV. I have bought 15 TV's in the last maybe 20 years and had to only return one 20" Samsung due to it not having a good picture.

When buying from any other sellers I would sure call first and find out their return policy before buying a TV from them. Best to always stick with a Sony Authorized dealer although they may charge for the return freight on a TV you may not like. No so with Amazon and they are a huge authorized Sony dealer.

I should add right now they are selling this W850 set by selling from a Sony approved Video & Audio Center store that will charge freight if you don't like the set and want it returned. Check the Amazon page often for this TV to see if it says, 'In Stock. Ships from and sold by Amazon.com'. Then you would have your paid freight return if you don't like the set for some reason.

Using the other seller may mean that Amazon is out of stock on the W850 set and may not be receiving any more. It's a wait and see to what happens in the next few weeks.

I myself use a Harmony 700 which works great for the past 3 years. I started with a harmony 650 and it failed after a year. Harmony 700 is functionally identical to Harmony 650 but very cheaply made.

I just checked Logitech website and while 650 is still available for $80US, there is no more 700. The other affortable harmony is the Harmony Smart Control at $130US.

The other ones are Harmony Ultimate One for $250 and Harmony Ultimate for $350. I may get one of these one day.

I'm a Harmony remote user also with a 65w850a. I originally bought a 520 back in 2005, the PS3 Harmony Bluetooth adapter in 2010, upgraded to a 700 in 2011, and have been using a 900 since last November. Once time is taken to get it tweaked just right, the original remotes just collect dust. I have also purchased several 600 and 650s as Xmas gifts for friends and family that I then assisted with configuring for them. I would not like to go back to using any other universal or factory remote. Of course it works great with the 65w850a.

It's daytime but I tried to darken room as much as I could to show blooming if present. I haven't noticed any at all but will take another picture tonight with room completely dark.

Upper left corner and side has reflection from windows in room and the edge of the planet in the opening credits.

I'm just using Standard picture mode with max backlight and no motionflow. All other settings are default for that mode.

You can't get this TV to screen leak, called clouding as long as you have a quality HD signal applied to the sets input.

You can manually cause it to cloud if you want by turning on the TV and leaving your cable box or satellite box turned off. You can also unplug the main HDMI-1 cable and do the same thing. The screen will say No-Signal applied. So the LED's run a full brightness and the LCD screen goes black to protect you eyes from a near blinding white light this set can make with it's ultra bright LEDs.

This is a screen shot of my TV from back in November. No clouding that I could see.

Yes when you power up the sony or for instance when using one of the apps like YouTube, it initially cranks up the panel brightness and defeats the dimming . At that point you night see some flashlighting or clouding.
Of course the panel is outputting it's max brightness without any dimming which is never how you would use it
So don't worry

considering this set but also looking at the Samsung 64f8500. Love my current samsung 50b650 from a few years back.

This is to add to the home for a game/movie area, that also has 4 skylights. Replacing a 90" projector that just can't function during the day.

Has anyone compared this to the f8500? Worried about price, input lag, and typical LCD issues that plasma excels with...especially on larger panels.

Has anyone compared this to 2014 panels? The threads in other areas are jumbled, but I think Im reading that this model is SONYs best quality picture & contrast in their entire line, even compared to the W900B with "X-tended Dynamic Range". Is that correct that the newer sets do not defeat this one? (couldn't think of a better word than "defeat" at the moment... Kind of tired)

Sony has a 65W950B may be the 2014 version of this W850a set. The shipping date I read somewhere shows to be the first week of June. One UK top reviewer gave the W950B low marks with the main reason being due to not having the same deep blacks as the W850a set. Evidently Sony used a different panel in the W950B set. They were other comparisons and he recommended buying the much better 2013 W850a set at a much lower price.

Others here may be able to better answer you question.

Looks like the 64f8500 would cost over $700 more than the W850a set. The Sony set has a very good lag time of 18 ms in the game-mode and Sony rates this set being good for gaming.

This Sony set has incredible picture quality especially when watching a blu ray movie or watching live games in the Vivid picture-mode.

Received the set yesterday from Sony store. Build date shows Feb 2014. Initial impressions are great. Delivery was good. Followed WhiteSands settings and all looks great. So far so good. I will mount the tv today. Only issue I am having is pairing experia phone with either mirracast wifi or NFC. Connections are not kept active past several minutes. Screen mirroring just seems very troublesome at this point. Anyone with any pointers on this send me a message. Otherwise very happy with the unit.

Hi, I just got this TV delivered to me yesterday, so far so good in terms of PQ, I still have a lot to go through though.

One feature I'm having difficulty finding clear info about is the streaming of your own video content through a DLNA server (your Windows computer) to the TV. Has anyone done this with this TV? If you have what software did you use? So far I've read about Serviio, PS3Media Server and XBMC but haven't read about anyone actually having a working setup. Has anyone tried this yet?

Thanks for any info!

Connect it up and start a movie. Press Options and see the picture mode selections. I did this using jpg still photos. I pressed Options and different settings showed up, Photo-Vivid, Photo-Standard and Photo-Custom. These must be different settings from the main picture-mode settings used for most TV viewing.

I was looking at Amazon's customer reviews for some of these sets.
I looked at how many stars each set has vs a perfect 5-star rating.

Samsung UN65F8000 LED set, 4.2 stars

Sony KDL-65W850A, 4.9 stars

Sony KDL-55W900A, 4.8 stars

screen shot from my set.

Not to split hairs, but it looks like the one at Costco is the 70W830B. Not sure of the difference between that and the 850B. The only thing that sticks out immediately is that Costco says it's a 60Hz panel, while the 850B is 120Hz (I believe).
