@gar41
you should have asked him<why it's posted on LG site that this unite does upscale if it doesn't?

Not sure it would have helped. But have to say going to the manufactures support chat line and not only not getting my original issue addressed but being told that I do not have features on my TV that I clearly do have leads me not to put much faith in LG'S support specialist.

Yes we have already all established that LG's support staff make up their own "facts". They are completely useless and seem to have no idea about anything. If the TV wasn't doing any upscaling, 1080p content would show up using only 1/4 of the screen real estate. It is clear the support person doesn't even understand the basic concepts behind upscaling, let alone what this TV supports and what it doesn't.

This puts me in a bit of a dilemma .
I am still in the time frame to return it and buy something else , such as the 9800 , but the price difference would be substantial since this was deeply discounted .
I am quite happy with the upscaling , picture quality , passive 3d effect , etc , but If this unit will not be upgraded via software/board swap etc. ,it may be my best option.
Still catching up on the posts here , but have there been any real solid responses from LG on an upgrade path? What I have found seems to be ambiguous promises , and contacting the support site as all of you here ( and myself as well now ) , know that is a joke.
Thanks for any help.

There was some responses in direct emails to their Corporate Communications person (VP I think), John Taylor. He confirmed to more than one person here including myself that there will be an upgrade this year. More concrete evidence appeared when they updated their product information on the website and in-store advertising to include a section about future compatibility which states "LG is planning to make an upgrade available later in the year which will support the latest versions of HDMI and HEVC".

Others have been told September as for when this will be available. I know people are impatient for this upgrade, but as of now there is ZERO use for HDMI 2.0, it provides no additional benefit to what you already can do with the TV since there are no HDMI 2.0 sources. So until there is something I am missing out on because of HDMI 2.0, I'm not going to bother complaining to them any more than we already have. As for Netflix 4K, who knows if and when we will see that, it's almost certainly just a software update issue.

Yes , sorry , I found those posts soon after I had posted mine. I have decided to keep it and wait to see what happens . The limited 4k content I see available on Netflix does not warrant almost $2000 over what I paid for a comparable 2014 model.

Besides , I would have trouble prying the remote from my wife's hand if I were to send it back , she loves that TV!

Thanks again for the feedback . I will be sure to search the forum more thoroughly before I post a question or comment again.

Based in Japan

Purchased my LA9700 65" back in late April. LG Japan will be picking the TV up for an upgrade to HDMI 2.0 (and dropping off a 42" loaner), but from the documentation that was sent, if the TV is upgraded it will lose ARC functionality and suggests to use an optical cable from the TV to receiver. Has anyone else heard anything about this? I haven't searched, but does the HDMI 2.0 spec not support ARC? I guess the ARC is not all that important, if my devices are plugged into my receiver. Just thought that was odd that this functionality would be lost.

Interesting...I would have assumed they would make the upgrade in home. So are you paying anything for this upgrade? How did you set up this appointment, did they contact you or you called them?

Or perhaps someone who is not LG is coming to take your TV away and drop off their crappy 42" :P

It was listed within the store when I purchased it. LG will send one of the local carriers (KuroNeko, Sagawa or the like) to pick it up and drop off whatever and once the hardware is changed out, return my tv. No cost to me at all. It does suck, that it is not an on-site fix, but it is what it is.

I think full 4K content is coming to the PS4 much sooner than was predicted.

Gar41,
I don't know what that LG support rep was smoking but he MOST definitely was wrong, dead wrong. Your LG not only supports 4k but also does a fantastic job upscaling BluRay and the 3D is the best I've seen. I was watching 4K shorts just the other day on my 55LA9650 which is the same as yours except mine is edge lit while yours is back lit.

I confirm that ARC lost in the USA. There will only be one HDMI 2.0 input.

Now I hope that service is not our solution. There could be display panel bending issues when moved. Additionally, would they inspect and fix video panel issues if picked up?

Gar41,
When I first bought my 9650 my wife thought that I was a bit crazy shelling out nearly $2,000.00 for a TV. We had a 32 inch 1080p before we bought the LG. My wife loves watching BluRay's and really does see a difference. Movies just look more vibrant and I agree.

Yeah I grabbed the update tonight too, didn't notice any difference. The Netflix versions are still the same so don't everyone get their hopes up for 4K Netflix

I really wish they had to tell us what the update is "updating"... On one hand you have to be happy that the firmware/software is being updated but without knowing what it addresses, its extremely frustrating! Hopefully since you say its one of the largest updates, its the precursor to our HDMI upgrade and/or the netflix 4k.

Insert witty line from BTTF here:

I believe that at some point HDMI 2.0 questions are being monitored by LG technical staff. We are getting close enough to a release date that upgrade details should be posted. Does anyone know who at LG oversees the release of HDMI 2.0? Inquiring minds want to know!

My nano FALD LG LV9500 1080p is giving me problems with a clouding on white back ground. I would like to know if anyone else has had a nano problem like this? Should I consider something else is wrong with my set?
This set is the first nano set by LG.

Mine has a lot of banding, thinking about downgrading to a cheaper tv until 4K standards get worked out. Or maybe go for the F8500 plasma

Yes, LG has a banding panel problem with all their big 4K or HDTVs.

On my TV I see banding and bleeding in the corners. According to LG they have NO quality control and their manufacturing process has not addressed these problems. So if you are going to buy an LG 50+ inches I suggest you live in the showroom. Meaning I recommend at least 4 visits with different on screen content.

It seems that LG may address these problems in the future by improving Edgelit and discontinuing FULL LEDs. OLED has a totally different panel.

Got this TV 55LA9650 few weeks back. India Bangalore.

So far its awesome for the Picture quality and functions.

Quick Questions.

1. In India I didnt see much apps on the Smart World. Are there any other way to get apps for this TV?
2. Can we download the apps from Google Android Market. Any alternatives?.

Thanks

Ravi
