So far its awesome for the Picture quality and functions.

Quick Questions.

1. In India I didnt see much apps on the Smart World. Are there any other way to get apps for this TV?
2. Can we download the apps from Google Android Market. Any alternatives?.

Thanks

Ravi

Hello!
I think that many of apps are depending on which country you live in.
What are the apps you are missing or like to install?

Update Note,

We are unsure, but a minor panel banding problem may improve with heat and time. Don't recommend you keep a major problem panel if you can replace it. Should NOT have severe center clouding video.

If you're in an A/C environment improvement may not be the case.

Of course gravity needs the panel to be at full 90 degrees. Expect the corner bleeding to stay.

I am looking forward to install different Internet Browsers like Chrome.

Local content apps which can play video, audio contents from local tv stations (android market has plenty of them).

I was able to install plex on the usb to watch my local media content. Its great. But looking for more solid apps that is interesting to use on the TV.

The reason why in my opinion Plex is so great it that it runs natively on my LG. No more hacking to get it to run like I had to do with my Apple TV. Granted you will need to buy from Amazon Fire HD TV box for $99.00 but that is a small price to pay for this streaming box. It is a minor expense compared to the cost of my Synology. Using Plex my entire library of .mkv files are available to me for instant streaming anytime anywhere.

What I'm not happy with is that I can't get this TV to play a native 4K demo file. Try all times of conversions (non-mkv).

For a SmartTV, this is a dummy 4k. Anyone have success?

How are you trying to play the 4K files? I don't have any problems playing through the USB port which at present, is the only way (as far as I know) of viewing 4K files. These can be downloaded from YouTube using the 4K Downloader program.

Hi mpeg3s,
i've made a huge test on lot of files to test the abillities of my LA970 to play 4K contents and this is the result
try to donwload somes files on this site : http://demo-uhd3d.com/index.php the same which worked for me
and if it doesn't play your TV could have a problem
my TV model Type 55LA970V-ZA
software version : 04:24.35
sdk version : 03.05
web navigator version : V.00.00.bc7709.4727
ESN : LGTV20131=11000141038
Widevine : LGTV13CLGE000086065
don't what all these means but
most files runs without any problem TS/MPEG/MKV/MP4 (HEVC)

hope someone else will try some files and tell us if he have the same results.

Spoiler!

i've tried the latest HEVC files on the site thoses by samsung "Rolland Garros + Fashion ) but nones worked !!
perhaps people in other country than France can play them because the TV firmware isn't the same

hope that my post will help

I have a small problem with Skype. I Skype from my TV and leave the camera/mic open all the time for when I get a call. I have the TV speaker hidden and turned off completely. I also have my TV running from an Onkyo receiver (HDMI) and also the optical audio running back to my receiver. I can watch Netflix, Amazon, Youtube, etc from the apps and all sound goes through the receiver, which is by design. However, whenever I Skype, the speaker drops down and the audio comes from it, not the receiver. Is this by design? I'd rather have the audio come out the receiver like everything else. Any tips would be appreciated!

Yes, can confirm that the Samsung Fashion Show Milan worked on my 55LA970W-ZA even though it is a .ts file which I did not expect to play. The Canal Plus test is also a .ts file but the audio did not play although the picture was stunning. I also tried the LG_4K_Hong Kong file which is in mp4 format and this is probably the most vivid Ultra 4K clip I have seen. Thanks for pointing me to the site.

Presume that you are playing via a drive connected to the USB port? My TV is a 2013 so, it should work on yours.

Like Bees1 and Wheeley said 4K shorts can easily be played by using a Flash drive. In my case I bought two 128GB drives. Remember these files need to be formatted NTSF for files over 4GB and can be downloaded with youtube downloader. Just Google 4k shorts and you will find dozens of them. I even used a 500 GB USB drive. Just find YouTube 4K Downloader and you are good to go. YouTube downloader has lots of posts on how to use it. I forgot to mention that it will only play files that are 3840 x 2160. Some of the shorts, not many are in a larger size or have different dimensions.

Smacrae,
Sure do. LG is preparing an upgrade kit for this. If in the US your TV will need to be picked up for the upgrade. Rumor has it that kits are being prepared as I type this reply.

Says who? This is the closest official word we have which is from their website:

"LG 4K TVs meet the current UHD standards by including support for native UHD content and are the only sets currently on the market to include a high efficiency video codec (HEVC) also known as H.265 for streaming UHD content via the Smart TV interface. As new sources of content become available in the future, some may require next generation interfaces and LG is planning to make an upgrade available later in the year which will support the latest versions of HDMI and HEVC.*

*May require a separate purchase and installation. Contact LG Customer Service with any questions regarding the LG 4K upgrade."

I bought this TV expecting 4k Netflix support, but at this point I fully expect this TV to be little more than a very expensive 1080p set that plays some 4k videos through a flash drive. I don't think they sold enough of these TVs to justify the cost of upgrading them and they are on to their 2014 4k sets now. Lesson learned for being an early adopter...

One owner in Japan reported the TV was picked up, and he was even given a "loaner". It's possible it's more than a board swap and requires more than a family room floor work surface or it could be that's just the way things are done in Japan. His upgrade was free as well, something we are not expecting here in the US. What will actually happen here remains to be seen but the there are a number of contacts that indicate the kits are arriving. I expect we will start seeing the process actually start in September.

I'm more optimistic based on numerous reports of contacts with LG Executive Services in Huntsville, Alabama who appear to be directly handling the upgrade for the LM9600, LA9700 and LA9650 in the US that state they are accumulating kits now and will be starting scheduling in September.

Bill,
I'm really looking forward to this upgrade although it really isn't going to make much difference at least for now. With the upgrade kit have you figured out what 2014 LG model our unit will be the closest to?

Well I guess the UB9500 is closest to the LA9650, but LG is so stingy with the specs, it's hard to say. There are no exact equivalents as the hardware and software is different year-to-year.

We and the LA9700 and LM9600 owners await the upgrade and whatever it entails...
