Hey guys and galls I ran into a little problem last night, I'm trying to get 5.1 sound from my DirecTV receiver (HR44) That is connected to the TV with HDMI cable and my TV is connected to my Bose Lifestyle 48 receiver through an optical cable, but I only get PCM 2.0 The only thing that has 5.1 sound is the Netflix app on the TV. Is there any way to bypass the sound from the DirecTV receiver through the tv back to the Bose unaltered? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My setup is DirecTV: HR44 (connected to tv using HDMI)

65la9700 (connected to bose 48 using optical cable and set to external speakers in the menu using auto mode)

Bose Lifestyle 48 (only has one optical in connection that it receives from the TV set. Also it doesn't have many settings other than to reproduce what it receives from the source.

spentan,
I any many others would be very interested in the progress of your LG. If you could give us a brief understanding on how you got your LG in for the upgrade.

So sorry everyone, I meant that I'm in on the thread. Didn't mean that my TV is in for the upgrade.

I had an invitation to rejoin Netflix (cancelled because no 4K streaming in the Uk) so I rang their Freephone number and was connected to a US representative. He said that LG build the app and all Netflix do is to provide the content. He gave me the number of the LG US Customer Service people in the US who told me that a firmware update is expected in August to allow for 4K streaming from Netflix but this is only in the US. She also confirmed the HDMi 2 board upgrade is almost ready to go, again in the US. But she could not say what was happening over here. So, called the UK call centre. He told me (after checking with the technical people) that Netflix had decided on codecs which are not included in our TV and therefore, Netflix 4K could not be implemented as it was a hardware issue! I also asked about the HDMI2 upgrade board. He said that officially the technical people have no information. I said and unofficially? He said that unofficially, they are looking into it, so, hopefully, that is perhaps good news.

Has anyone else heard anything about this? I haven't searched, but does the HDMI 2.0 spec not support ARC? I guess the ARC is not all that important, if my devices are plugged into my receiver. Just thought that was odd that this functionality would be lost.
Hi 555SD
Any news concerning the update in your country ?
Cheers

The TV was picked up about 9 days ago and turn around was estimated around 2 weeks. So still not in my possession. Declined their 42" loaner as I have a Sammy 55" 7 series as well. Hopefully just a few more days. Definitely zero cost involved for myself and no idea if LG will work the same way in the states or not.

I recently purchased the 65LA9700 due to the great deals going on for them right now. I was wondering if there is a compelling reason to get a 4k blu ray player or is a standard 1080p 3d player adequate. I know the display upconverts but I don't know if there would be a conflict if both are trying to do the upconversion.

I disagree with the link as the prices of 4K sets are coming down...we expect some type of physical media ie 4K Bluray players.

Seems strange that Samsung and Sony are forthright in giving information and yet LG users from 2013 4k sets are left in the dark...

Due to lack of information and poor responses lg with a bit sorry just sold my beloved lg55la9650 a friend, and just ordered the sanusung un55hu8500 that comes with hdmi 2.0.

I want to take this opportunity to say that is a spectacular 55la9650 lg tv, very buana picture, good blacks and excellent viewing angle, but it seems very wrong that the issue is not clear with the upgrade. I wish luck to all the owners and I will continue closely to see how this story ends. Greetings

In the 9650 thread people are starting to get the HDMI 2 kit installation lined up.

Have avoided this thread since spring but just caught up - what a saga!

So is it confirmed that if you purchase a new LA9700 it comes with the HDMI 2.0 upgrade and everything you need to stream Netflix 4K? And if it doesn't come pre-upgraded, it's a free upgrade you can have installed at any time?

Also, what is consensus on banding/DSE - a showstopper at $7000 but acceptable for under $2500??

When the 65" Vizio P materializes later this month for $2200 and with 64 local dimming zones, it will be interesting to see how these two TVs compare...

LA9700 doesn't come with HDMI 2.0 as it's a 2013 model designed before HDMI 2.0 was fully specified and chipsets available. I don't think the LA9700 is still in production so anything produced would be HDMI 1.4.

In North America it appears that the kit is starting to become available (not sure on price as I've seen a range of $200 - $479 in cost for parts and labour to install).

I do notice some banding on my 65LA9700 but it's by far the best 65" TV at the price I paid for plus the banding isn't overly noticeable if you tweak the picture to not be overly bright or contasty.

Just got off the phone with Encompass , said they didn't have a " VIP care " , had no idea what I was talking about as far as a upgrade kit for my LG 65LA9700, and told me to call LG directly , and we all know how that goes. Is there someone else to call for a reference number or authorization for the upgrade or something?

3D Issue

What does it take to get 3D to play on my 65LA9700 from a 3D Blu-Ray player (older Yamaha BD-A1010 which has the 3D emblem on its front plus latest firmware)?

When I turn the BDP (Bluray Disc Player) to 3D out and TV to 3D mode the TV always shows the generic BluRay message equivalent to you need a BL compatible player and TV to watch 3D movies. When I changed the HDMI cables from a cheapie to a "High Speed HDMI with Ethernet" capability I got one step further (basically the BDP says go to Yamaha's site for 3D warnings) but still no joy after that! The error occured with any 3D bluray that I tried - Top Gun, Wreck-It Ralph, Hotel Transylvania, etc. which was disappointing to me and the kids!

What resolution do I need to set things up to (assumed it would happen by itself if I set both BDP and TV to Auto)?

Should I buy a "better" HDMI cable (High Speed?) to try first (although both old cables on hand that I tried worked good on regular HDMI stuff)?

Does the signal have to come to a specific HDMI input (i'm trying HDMI 2 as that's where the BDP goes to now)?

I'm also sending audio out from the BDP via analog 7.1 to my Pioneer Elite 49TXi as this old receiver has no HDMI ports so it is obviously not going to handle anything 3D related.

3D via USB or LG's 3D Network (wirelessly) shows a 3D picture. TV has latest version of firmware via network updating.
