It put us on par with the 2014 LG TVs. HDMI 2, I believe will give you access to devices that use that standard (probably the new Sky 4K box when it comes to the UK) and the in-built satellite tuner can now pick up 4K transmissions which it could not prior to the upgrade. I believe that the USB has also been upgraded to USB 3? And the picture is substantially superior to previously. We also have WebOs 1 and it's true, that probably won't be upgraded anytime soon. And we have access to streaming 4K services. So, all in all, it has been worth it.

As Bees said, it puts us in line with the 2014 models. We get HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.2, and 4K streaming services. It is webOS 1.0 and I don't think it is upgradeable to 2.0 since even LG's insanely expensive OLED set from late last year is webOS 1.0 and cannot be upgraded, only the newer 2015 sets will have webOS 2.0.

USB is the same, it was always one USB 3.0 port and two USB 2.0 ports.

If you Google "John Taylor" LG America you will find his Email address,. and just ask him if your LG970w could have the Upgrade panel,.thats all i did, but it might cost $300 or something, but its worth it, , i was very lucky to get it free,. but you never know depending on how you appeal to his charitable senses,. just say that you heard of many others that had the Upgrade and having bought what you thought was a Future proofed 4K LG in good faith you are hoping he stands by his promise of Future proofing 2013 4K sets,. please dont say " But you gave a guy an Upgrade for nothing" just plead your own Genuine case,.please post results here,. i cant find the emails as i changed my PC and lost them since last christmas,.good luck with it,.ps, youtube "john taylor LG . for the Upgrade promise,.

I noticed the picture looked better as well(especially upscaled content).
I also notice way less input lag with my PS4/XBO/PC.

Question PS4/XBO support deep color should we enable this on HDMI 2?

My retailer is offering a free upgrade or a replacement. I've been put off the upgrade by the problems incurred by others, the time I have to take off and being without a TV for two weeks.
What does everyone think is the equivalent model in the new LG range?

@gdow2 There isn't really an equivalent. The UF9500 is the flagship (outside of OLED), and the LA9700 was the flagship for its time, so I would argue that one is the closest to an equivalent. The LA9700 has full array dimming and I don't think the UF9500 does, so the blacks will not be as good, but the UF9500 does have the wider color gamut for better colors.

On another note, David Katzmaier has tweeted that 2014 LG TVs will be upgraded to webOS 2.0! I wonder if the webOS-upgraded LA9700 is also getting the 2.0 upgrade?

Yes they will . These tvs mimic the UB9800 for software. Only the panel is different now. Its great news as 1.0 is slow and stuttery for me at least. Now i just need to get the new onkyo amp in May since my 636 doesnt actually support deep color at 4k60hz. Had to look deep in the manual to actually see that and im considering a return until the new one comes out if it supports it. As i had HDMI Version mismatch all the time and thought it was the TV. Turn out this upgrade is bob on for hdmi 2 spec.

If it does get webos 2.0 I may go the upgrade route but it would still be only one HDMI 2.0 The UF950 here in the UK seemd to be the alternative and it does say it has local dimming. I need to see and hear one!!

I have the same TV (obviously) but the same receiver as well. Do you ever experience issues where the TV will just restart? Watching TV (seems to happen once a day), the TV turns off, then back on again. I thought it may be a handshake issue, but not sure if it's the TV or receiver causing it...

Yes i have had that. There was a number of handshake problems with the old OS before the upgrade to web os. So many bugs that never got a update to fix. If you dont have the upgrade you should get it for the bugs alone. The worst problem i had was Trumotion would be on even if the option was off. The upgrade to WebOS also took care of that strangely only after a weeks use of the upgrade though but it would fix itself after 10-20secs and now i dont see it at all.

"Local dimming" can mean many things, I believe all of LG's 2014 & 2015 sets are all edge-lit local dimming. It is probably their way of further differentiating from their OLED line which is now their true flagships. This review seems to further support the case for poorer contrast due to edge lit local dimming:

Does anyone know whether the YouTube app on the modified sets can download 4K clips. Pressing info does not bring up the information.

And the only way to upgrade to WebOS is to install the 4K upgrade board right?

Yea . Dont know if they replace the actual bits needed to run the OS but its a shame since im sure the old bits would be able to apart from not having full HEVC support which i guess is where the problem lies

ANYONE INTERESTED IN AN UPGRADE KIT FOR A 55LA9700?

The box indicates it is for a 55LA9700-UA, which is a U.S. model, at least
It may be used elsewhere...not sure - the outer label on the says 55LA9700-UA (US) - see attached images.

I ordered it mistakenly for my 65LA9650 based on a guess which turned out to be incorrect.

What we knew when I ordered:

55LA9650 is AGF77602206
65LA9650 is ? (guess AGF77602207)
55LA9700 is ? (guess AGF77602208)
65LA9700 is AGF77602209

What we now know:

55LA9650 is AGF77602206
65LA9650 is ? (guess AGF77602208)
55LA9700 is AGF77602207
65LA9700 is AGF77602209

So, I'm going to order AGF77602208 for my 65LA9650 and see what I get.

ANYONE INTERESTED IN AN UPGRADE KIT FOR A 55LA9700? Attached are pictures of the box label and cover of the included instructions. I'll sell for a good discount... $265 + shipping.

See my Ebay listing here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/161674348366

If I knew how to turn off voice recognition, I would have done it on day 1! I didn't see it in the joke of a manual, where is it?
