I'm not certain, but I think everything in the chain has to handshake and requires HDCP protection.

All four are HDMI 2.0 but only one is HDCP 2.2

You may be right. Must depend on how switch operates whether it can break the HDCP handshake or not.

Well the honeymoon is over to some extent. Two things that I noticed today. First, on gray screens, I noticed a lack of uniformity with a particular 6" bright spot at the top of the screen about 1/3 of the way in from the right. But the really noticeable problem is a significant amount of banding for 3d content. It really manifests itself most with a bright background content (like a bright sky or a white wall) but even my wife noticed which means it's not a case of anal perfectionist. Overall, I still like the TV for its fantastic black level and rich colors but it certainly ain't perfect.

I was doing some checking on the forth coming 4K bluray coming early 2015 and apparently they will be using the AVCH-.265 codex. If this is true how will the X850A and X900A be able to use them since they only have the H-.264 codex built in?

I am considering purchasing the 65X850A and with paying a premium I am concerned for the future proof of these TV's. Maybe the X850B makes more sense for connectivity but will loose the deep blacks due to the IPS panel used in this set.

I would appreciate your comments.

The Blu ray player will decode the h.265 material just like it does now, just with a different codec. You'll most likely need a new Blu ray player but that'll be needed irrespective of what TV you hook it up. The tv won't be doing the decoding.

BTW, this set uses an A-MVA panel. The b uses IPS

Sony X850A.X850B, S900A

I was hoping that owners could advise on a comment I received from Best Buy on the Sony 4K TV. They said that the picture on upscaling is good but the picture starts to degrade more (blur/sharpness) on fast action sports like football. Best buy said that 1080P set are better for fast action sports like football. Do any of you agree or disagree with this? Is any 4K set worse than the other in this area? I am really concerned about the upscaling of cable signal of 1080I on football, it is an inportant aspet to me. Would a 1080P set be better for sports /football? Thanks.

You've posted the same question on every Sony 4K forum here, probably five times.

Post once, and wait for some productive answers, please.

I am sorry this bothers you but you are incorrect I have not posted the same question on every thread five times. I have posted different questions in the different areas (Model Threads) because I would be reaching out to a different group of people/owners and I value their opinion. Sorry that you read the different model thread where you would see the requests. If you would like to respond to my question I would really appreciate it.

I am trying to obtain information and clarify information on Sony 4K tv and my time is limited due to deleting stock on the older models. Thank you again for voicing your concern and I hope I clarified this for you.

Without belaboring the point, you did post the same question on different threads.

Again I am sorry you feel this way but you are belaboring this with your comments. I am now forced to clarify once again that I am reaching out to different owner in the different threads for their assistance and they are extremely helpful. All owners do not review the different threads like yourself. I would like to thank all of those who have responded with assistance.

Seeing how his question pertains to 3 different Sony TV models, what is the big deal with him posting in each corresponding thread? I guess I don't see an issue with it. Someone with an 850b may never check this thread so to get opinions on that model, he would have to post there.

i have a question about these 4k upscaling blu-ray players. Everything i have read says to let this tv do the upscaling. I have a pioneer elite receiver that does video upscaling but i turned that feature off to allow the tv to do the work. Wouldnt the same thing apply to these upscaling blu-ray players? If you let the tv upscale, and the blu-ray player upscale, would that create a better picture? I guess i dont understand the true benefit to these blu-ray players if the tv automatically upscales everything to near 4k clarity. Can anyone explain the benefit with these?

If your player upscales the bluray it will pass a 4K signal to the TV and the TV will not upscale since it is receiving a 4K signal. The TV has a superior upscaler so it's better to disable upscaling on your receiver and player and let the TV handle it.

Thanks Carlos, that is what i am getting at. I already turned off processing on the receiver, so is there any benefit to these 4k upscaling blu-ray players over a regular blu-ray player, if the tv is upscaling it anyways?

No benefit if you plan on letting the TV do the upscaling. Upscaling bluray players are meant for 4K monitors that do not have a built in upscaler.

Gameplan for 4K with HEVC H.264 ?

Hi there !... I purchased the SONY XBR-65X 850A in November 2013 thinking that the new HEVC encoding H.265 would be a software download in 2014, not a hardware issue.... Ha ha, big mistake !... So, now, it seems that the only 4K available is through the SONY FMP-X10 player which has the new encoding built in ( for Netflix 4K, etc.)....

Do you guys think it's worth holding off on purchasing the FMP-X10 to wait for the new encoding-enabled ROKU, Apple TV, Blu-Ray Players with 4K Apps, etc. ?.... Does anyone know the timeframe for these ?.... Or any other potential 4K streamer box I haven't thought about ?

If their release is too far into the future I guess I'd have to settle for the SONY player if I want to get 4K on this set.... But, obviously, I'd like to have the much wider selection option of ANY 3rd party 4K streaming box.... Christmas 2014, perhaps ???

Thanks !

No one knows an exact time frame. I would hope by the end of this year we would get a new apple TV or roku. If you want 4k now you only have one choice. I would wait if you can though.

Purchased the 55" last week. Picture is great, however there appears to be some type of vignetting on all for corners and the top and bottom of the middle of the screen that run about an inch. Only noticeable with certain colors. I would assume that's normal based on the pictures posted in the thread?
