From all those I've seen, the power cord is hard in to the back of the TV. I wrapped and snugged the TV's cord and ran an extension cord which makes plugging and unplugging a lot easier.

I finally found a minidp which supports 4k and hooking that up to my surface pro 3.

Anyone know where I can download some decent 4k videos?

I have downloaded YouTube clips but they don't look 4k to me. The only one which does is the LG demo clip. The rest look poor.

Love to finally see something in 4k.

I don't think mentioning certain p to p are allowed apparently so I'd say no. I bought one of those Sony media servers when I bought my TV about a year ago because it was only $250. They gave me "$300" worth of movies at about $30 per movie. The audio quality on these movies is much worse than the DTS-MA BR 1080p versions of these movies so it is more of a novelty than the movie I'd want to watch as audio is as important as video for me. There are however many great 4k movies on the device - there are a lot of free sample nature type 5 minute demos for the sony media server. The video quality is fantastic on those samples.

I just helped a friend set up his curved 55 Samsung unit he got from Costco. This is a brand new unit and even having spent half an hour tweaking his settings including motion it still has worse motion than my old 850a. I can't believe the Samsung are getting such good reviews as I myself was thinking of getting one based on the reviews but the motion is horrible - mind you, I don't think the Sony's have great motion - my 6 year old panasonic plasma still blows the doors of my 850a but the Samsung is down right wretched. I think reviewers only look at black level and maybe contrast and call it a day.

Can you guys help me answer a quick question... is the reason this set cannot play 4K files via USB because of the lacking HEVC codec?

HEVC(H.265), AVC(H.264),XAVCS, .... or any other 4k file format. This TV is a 4k monitor and a 1080 television. It is incapable of reading and displaying a 4k file on its own.

Yeah I find this meaning that the TV is not fit for it's purpose. It's advertised as a 4K television and it can't play any 4K content - and there are no 4K devices being sold over here to play 4K files.

Also, the actual Sony NZ website is advertising this TV as HAVING the HEVC codec. I called Sony support and they told me that they will send me a list of the available 4K codecs on the TV??? Look at the description:

I didn't realize that you were in NZ. The models numbers are slightly different from North America. If your TV is a 2014 model, it would probably have the ability to play 4K. Your link suggests that it does. Down load a 4k file from somewhere, put it on a usb memory stick and go down to a showroom and find out for sure.

Already done and it doesn't work - tried everything. I called Sony and they said that the website was incorrect :/

"The website is incorrect"!!! I've heard more stories about Sony screwing up on their 4k product descriptions and their support staff getting things wrong, it makes me wonder whether the marketers are running the show there. Do you get the Dilbert cartoon strip in NZ? They give great examples of marketers talking to engineers and they never listen to anything technical.

Marketer: "We need 4k right now, right now"
Engineer: " We can give you 4K but only as a monitor right now"
Marketer: "Make it now and I'll write the copy for it saying it does everything, We'll sell a million"
Engineer: "But it doesn't do everything"
Marketer: "So......I told you I can sell a million of them"

Sony is not looking very good here. I had to read quite deep into my iManual to find out that my 850A can't play 4k video files.

Yeah I mean, the average consumer would be right to feel a bit upset if they were buying mainly for 4K. I think it's kind of misleading.

As a side note, is this normal? I have been noticing that on dark/black scenes, there are white blotches on the set (bleeding?). Does anyone else's do this?

Really hard to get an accurate photo uploaded actually

I never see that on a broadcast program, even when the scene is mostly black. Actually I think the black level of this TV is great. I have seen something like your photo when YouTube starts up but it goes away once the application is running.

I have the 850A, which doesn't have built-in H.265, but it doesn't really effect anything I watch because all 4K content I play is coming from a separate device anyway.

What ticked me off was that the set doesn't even play XAVCS (format that Sony's 4K consumer video camera records in). Even the Sony technical support rep I spoke with didn't understand why Sony didn't include that format. I've said it many times, Sony 4K 'A' series are 1080 televisions and 4k monitors.

Has anyone used the Sports scene for general viewing? I've recently switched to that scene and I have to say it really brings some movies to life. Detail looks so much better and colours are brighter.

As a side note I have figured out why bravia sync stops working. When I have an extra hdmi cable plugged into the tv but not into anything else, it messes up the entire system and bravia sync stops working.

I updated and things went smoothly but damned if I know what changed. The previous update said improved performance and stability of the television. Glad to see Sony giving such specific details!

If you had the option, would any of you replace the 850a with the 850b?

I bought this TV mainly to view my photos in UHD and it does a great job of doing that. I wish it could play 4k video content by itself but I'm prepared to wait to see what industry has to offer over the next year. I was under the impression that the 850A has some worthwhile features that the 850B doesn't have. Like dynamic backlighting.

Yeah the backlighting seems to be one of the main big differences. Is there anything else technology/picture wise which is perceived to be inferior on the b?

People were talking about the motion processor too but I don't know much about it. I find the blacks are very good on this TV and my photos in 4k are spectacular. I can't wait to see some 4k video content.
