I have been out of the loop and only had one HDTV my entire life, now looking to add another for a bedroom/office.

I have seen some decent reviews for Panasonic, Toshiba, Vizio, and LG but I was hoping for some guidance. I suppose with my above uses a "game" mode would be helpful from time to time, if that mode really helps?

1. Budget - $600
2. Seating distance - 8 to 10ft
3. Size/placement limitations - going on a large dresser, no hanging, just a stand.
4. Uses and sources - Rare DVD, Blu-ray, PS3 and PS4, HD Sports
5. Room lighting - Dark or bright as I want (large thick curtains)

Most people buy HDTV's bigger than 42" therefore don't have much info on smaller sizes. Does sizes are for bedroom or offices like you mentioned. Just research on Samsung/Sony models. LG's are ok also. Panasonic are best for plasma.
