Anyone spot any information about this TV anywhere? I'm assuming a best buy exclusive model as I've seen with Sharps before, but what model is it based off of, what's different, etc? It says it has "direct-lit LED backlighting" which is interesting.

I picked up one of these last weekend from BB.  BB only model by the looks of it.

The LC-50LE650 was out of stock and they had the LC-50LB150U in the back.  Said it's the newer model of this one..

Im thinking this is the black friday discount version of it though.    No Smart features, 1 less HDMI, no AQUOUS branding, and 2mil contrast vs the 4mil of the previous model.

Deciding if i want to keep it or not.  Not too impressed by the picture quality, although i'm new to LCD/LED, coming from plasma.

Anyone else know more about this model and how different the panel is from the LE model?

The LE650 is also edge lit vs direct-lit on this one. That's an awful lot of difference between the models.

I found this thread after searching the model # via google.

I think I'm probably overdue for a new TV (I have a Sony Wega tube TV that most of my friends poke fun at, it still works!)

I'm trying to decide if I should hold out for the possibility of the Panasonic P50S60 plasma that everybody raves about to come down in price (about $650-$700 right now) or just purchase this one.

I'm intrigued by the comment on a possible IPS panel and noticed that the viewing angle is 2 degrees off from the Panasonic.

How does this TV stack up vs the plasma?  I understand that Plasma's have deeper blacks but is it worth the extra $250-$300???  Should I wait until the P60 comes down in price?  Will it ever come down in price???  Panasonic shut down the factory due December!  What if everybody gobbles those babies up!?!?!??!?

DILEMMA !

I guess it's what you want, but even Panasonic plans to pull away from their Plasma lineup... hotter, more electricity, has a "hum" noise, more sensitive to breaking if jolted while moving, screen burn ins, etc... Plasma has some pro's, but it seems like it will be phased out from the market eventually.

Personally, I'd say go with an LED LCD, which bests the cons listed for Plasma's in general... more power efficient, fundamentally more durable(not a huge panel filled with gases), etc... I guess in the end it's what you want...don't get me wrong, not everyone moves their TV often, nor do the minor quibbles really bother them(high electricity useage, etc.)

I went to my local Bestbuy, the workers there weren't sure when exactly this TV goes on sale. They looked it up on the public bestbuy website which states the 28-30th. So they concluded that it goes on sale 6pm Thanksgiving.... but I believe that's the online availability of this TV. I can't order this TV online, they don't offer delivery in my area.

Judging from the leaked Ad, I believe this TV goes on sale Black Friday (and not before). Does anyone else have information that disproves or proves my belief?

This goes on sale 11/28-11/30 for $399.99 w/free shipping. However, read the fine print from the product brochure:

It reads:

This product is manufactured for Best Buy China Ltd, as trustee for Best Buy China, and distributed and warranted by Best Buy Purchasing, LLC
(7601 Penn Avenue South, Richfield, Minnesota, U.S.A. 55423-3645) under brand license by SHARP Corporation.

Sharp manufacturing is in Japan.
Can anyone who owns this model confirm? Was it made in China or Japan?

Nice catch. I was really thinking about getting this TV. But this makes me think it's really an Insignia w/ a Sharp badge frown.gif
Still a pretty good deal, but not as good by far.

OK we need to find out if this TV is indeed an insignia or not? If it is then I will be furious with Best Buy for false advertisement

I know this type of thing is pretty common on low end brands like RCA and Westinghouse (just a name, you rarely know who actually makes it and quality varies a lot amongst models). But this is the first time I've seen something from a (IMO) more reputable brand like Sharp. I suppose Sharps financial troubles might have influenced this type of licensing deal.

Why the outrage? Insignia TV's are made by someone, why couldn't this model be made by Sharp already? I agree, the specs on this and the insignia are so similar, it seems likely the same factory is making them. Does that make you like this TV any less at 400? Enough to consider the 2?? priced TV at Target?

It's just flat out wrong to entice customers with a reputable brand only to have it actually be something else. The PQ betweet Sharp and Insignia are night and day... I would be buying this for the SHARP name, Best Buy knows this which is why they labled it as such. Insignia is CRAP

These sets are just rebadged sets licensed by Sharp to Best Buy. You're basically getting a big screen Emerson, Funai, or similar make -- avoid IMO.

No, it will look like a basic user menu. If you see above, it is a "licensed product".

Sharp do the same thing in the UK, anything below 46" inches non-LED is a Vestel junk rebadge; anything non-smart LED based is Vestel too. Only their smart, 3D Aquos are proper Sharp TVs.

And Toshiba have a similar policy.

Some of LG's newer LCD/LED sets in the 42 inch and below market are AMTRAN sets, same company who produces Vizio's TVs.

Hitachi, Sanyo aren't worth talking about: everything they make is a rebadge.

Im thinking about getting one of these as well. Does anyone here actually own one? Im replacing my 42" Toshiba plasma with it. The Toshiba has awesome sound and picture. I know being an LED TV, the blacks wont be as rich as im used to, but, how does this set look from an off angle view? I am hoping I can pick this up online for the 399 special....... not a big fan of waiting in lines lol

PS,
Ill be wall mounting which is the only reason im replacing the heavy toshiba.

It will use a garbage ChiMei TN panel like 99% of cheap LED TVs which will look awful off axis. If you want a half decent cheap 50 inch TV you might be able to get a Vizio, LG or Samsung with an LG/Samsung/AUO panel.

I can say that after looking at the remote on Best Buy's website, it is identical to the Insignia remote from a tv that I have in one of my bedrooms. It's not a bad tv, but it does shady to me.

That's probably due to the fact that Insignia is made with whatever parts from different manufacturers.

Maybe, but I have an insignia blu ray in the spare room as well, same cheap remote as the tv. So most of their remotes are pretty consistent, regardless of what spare parts they are made out of. I think it's pretty clear that this is just a licensing deal and not a real Sharp tv, which is a shame becuase that would have been a fantastic deal for a Sharp built product.

Sharp has never been known as a high end reputable brand the same goes for Vizio.

Sharp has always been seen as an average brand in the UK (sort of on tier with LG and Toshiba), but I thought their LED sets were lauded for being very good recently?
