Think present in all 4 corners but worst in the two lower corners. I had uncle over to mount TV on the stand and noticed it as well. Should I be expecting that calibrating the TV should fix this issue or should go back to who bought from. Again not that bad, but at same time for the cost TV I wouldn't expect it be there. There was no damage to the box came in and everything else looked good just this slight bleeding of light in corners of the TV. I figure being this edge lit that this could be a problem.

Thoughts? Will this improve with burn in?

I do see this thread related to subject.
http://www.avsforum.com/t/1125227/possible-permanent-backlight-bleed-fix-for-lcd-tvs-and-monitors-w-disclaimer/90

Mine had the same, european model.

After adjusting a lot of settings, most is over. Only very dark scenes with (white) light in the middle the corners play a role.

Allthough I hoped for a better screen, it's probably the best it can do. Maybe I call Samsung just to see what they will say.

I'll post some pics, before and after the new settings

A quick call indicates availability April. Was told that this is the maximum price and if it comes in less will pay less. Have reserved one with no obligation to purchase. Sounded good to me smile.gif

At the moment, I'm not really sure if I'll get the upgrade. Referenced site defines following improvements:
1.New Ultra High Definition standards for 2014, including new standards for HDMI 2.0, the HEVC codec and HDCP 2.2
2.New Samsung Smart Hub and Multi Link Screen
3.Upgrade existing processors to the latest Quad Core Plus processors, improving TV's speed
4.Latest version of Voice & Motion control, including motion control with just one finger
5.Latest version of face recognition
6.Latest 2014 Smart remote control also included

I like number one. However, for this year the functionality will basically be limited to getting UHD streaming of some Netflix and maybe Amazon films. Don't know that UHD vs 1080P on a few films is worth $600 dollars. Oh, plus you can pay another $300 and get the Samsung hard drive with a few movies on it (all of which you will have already seen if you were interested in them in the first place).

No big deal on number 2 for me. I basically just use it for Amazon.

Numbers 4-6 don't really do anything significant for me. Definitely not worth a good chunk of $600.

Up grading processor (number 3) sounds good; but I don't know what "improving TV's speed" means. If its only bouncing between smart hub apps quicker, it's no big deal. If that speed is utilized for the improved processing (upconversion and possibly even color described for the 2014 models), I'm all in and will pay the money.

5 on the HD, 50 downloadable for free if you have the HD. More than "a few". Sounds like a fantastic deal, why wouldn't you want that?

Does watching 4k content and using HDMI to TV work if using MACBOOK PRO Retina work? Also looked didnt see any 4k apps on TV. I thought someone said there were. I submitted the request for 4k content from Samsung.

Yes, more than a few. But, there are very few movies that I (and especially my wife) will watch again in less than say five years. I'm betting that I have already watched on Blu Ray (from Netflix or Redbox) any of the 50 movies that appeals to me.

However, that's me. I can totally understand paying $300 if it's "your cup of tea".

As far as the apps go I think if you enter UHD in the search field within the app store a few will be listed. I downloaded 2 I think but they are just picture galleries basically, no video content. I was also getting a banner scrolling across the top of my screen last week saying something about the apps going away... may be that they are redesigning the app store for the release of the new sets, not sure.

Trying to decide on getting the UN65F9000 and the new OneConnect box or wait and get the UN65HU8550. Any opinions on if a F9000 and new box will be a better TV than the new 8550?

If it were me and I currently had a TV that worked fine I would wait for the 2014 model. Reason I say that is no extra purchase for an updated one connect box and there may be some slightly improved technology in the new set that won't be one connect box related (I haven't researched it so I'm not sure). Also I like that dimensions of the new stand compared to the wide arc stand that's on my 55" 9000.

Well the issue is a I have little ones and are starting to pull on the table\tv we have now. So the new TV will be on the wall and the current one we are using is our bedroom TV for the moment (just moved).

My thinking is if the rumor of another $500 off on Sunday comes, that would cover the cost of the OneConnect box bringing the 65" F9000 to the same price of the 8550. So that had me thinking if the F9000 (2013) /w new OneConnect > 8550 (2014). Spec wise the F9000 looks better with the micro dimming being better on it. Honestly, I am not completely up to speed on the Samsungs as I was looking at a Sony 55" about a month ago. The OneConnect box interest me being a tech person.

The one connect box is an awesome concept and honestly I'm surprised that no one came up with it earlier. Another bonus if you purchase on Sunday is you will be eligible for Samsung's 4K content special if you live in the U.S. : http://4kmovies.samsungrebate.com/ I'm not sure but the offer seems different now as it states 2 UHD movies, when I ordered mine back in January I got a hard drive with a handful of documentary type movies (took about a month to get it after I submitted all my info). The offer expires March 31.

Hi, i'm new here(been reading a long time, never posted), from The Netherlands.

As pointed out bij Jwegger and 1 other forummember, there are problems with the ue55f9000(9090), wihen connecting a HTPC ( in my case i tried win 8.1 and osx) the problem is especially present with fonts on the desktop screen.

As you can see there is a very visible discoloration of text, mostly blue and red, with some ringing/ ghosting if you look close.

I've send Samsung NL a detailed email with my specs, setup, and sertings, give them detailed info on what I already tried

Samsung UE 55F9090
Firmware version T- FX9DEUC-2006.0 (ook met deze firmware gekocht ca een maand geleden)
Serial NR:
Settings TV: standard en CNET gekalibreerde settings (zie onder)
One connect
CI+ 1.3 interactieve module
DENON X4000 Receiver met 4K passthrough turned on, without upscaling(HDMI 2 op one connect
)(aangesloten op HDMI 2 via Denon x4000) HTPC (Home Theater PC ) Windows 8.1, ATI Radeon HD7990 grafic card (HDMI 1.4/ Display port/ DVI). Systeem is in staat 4K (3840 * 2160 ) uit te sturen op max 30 HZ, op YcBcR 4:2:2 en 4:4:4 en RGB standard en full. HTPC is connected with aHigh speed HDMI cable.

HTPC connected straight into the one connect, as well as through the receiver. Same result.

Source —> tried all possibilities ( reciever, TV, DVI, DVI-PC enz)

Also tested with::
Samsung UE46B8000 met laatste firmware
Denon 3808a reciever (HDMI 1.3)
HTPC Windows 7 en 8 en ATI Radeon HD6870
Macbook Air OSX 10.9.2 via display port —> HDMI

The issues:

YCbCr 4:4:4, heavy discoloration
YCbCr 4:2:2 : less heavy, still visible
RGB 4:4:4 (full), Heavy discoloration, blurry
RGB 4:2:2 (standard) heavy discoloration

The issue is present at all refresh rates ( 1920 * 1080 bij 23, 24, 25, 29,30, 50, 59 en 60 hz & 3840 * 2160 bij 23, 24, 25, and 30 hz
with Blu-ray, MKV, X264 and Netflix there are colourbanding issues on dark surfaces, also visible on digital tv broadcasts.

! The discoloration is bary to not visible when the source is named pc/dvi. The problem with this setting is that the image looks like crap and there are barely to none possibilities to tweak any serting( no wihite balance and color settings and so on.

Because I watch al my movies on my htpc, and the tv is solely bought for that purpose, I can't say i'm too thrilled about it.

Does anyone else experience this problem, ue or un? Could it be a firmware issue (jwegger spoke of a set with 2002 firmware which did not have this issue) ?

Samsung will call me on wednesday for remote management, but i'm not to confident they will solve it remotely.

Any one got any advice or solutions ?

Great, very informative article!

Just one question, from the article -

What’s also interesting about next-gen Netflix is that it’s supposedly not just about extra pixels—the company has stated that it will eventually support 60 fps streams along with 10-bit color.

4K Blu-ray

The good news here is that, instead of simply upping Blu-ray’s 1920 x 1080 pixel count to Ultra HD’s 3840 x 2160, other factors such as increased color bit-depth, extended color gamut, and high dynamic range encoding are all being considered.

Do the 2014 Samsung's support 10 bit color - or only 8 bit...?

i am wondering what the best configuration for my tv and soundsystem will be.

I have the UN65F9000(9005, European version) and Bose Lifestyle V35.

Today i have my Satelite box, Apple TV and Sony Blueray player connected to the Samsung conection box with HDMI and i have an optical cable from the Connection box to the V35 Sound system.

What would be the best setup if i would like to get the best possible sound and pitcure?

Should i use the setup i have now or should i connet all my devices to the bose sound system and use hdmi from bose to Samsung connection box.

Now i can only choose pcm and dts neo 2:5 when i go in to the sond settings on my samsung tv.

wouldn´t DD give better sound?

I think that's true with most of the manufacturers, thought I read something like that regarding Sony. Maybe something to do with the encoding of the files?

Likely due to the way it contains 4x 1080p videos per 4k video.
